Just bought one and gigged with it recently. Got a lot of good compliments on the sound - tone was rolled off the whole night. I don't play with any effects just slight compression. It has some neck dive that I wasn't used too coming from an Elite Jazz bass so I replaced the tuners with some Hipshot ultralights and that took care of that. The string spacing is a tad wider than my Jazz but wasn't too uncomfortable and I quickly got acclimated. Love this bass and the trade off in weight with that Jazz means it will probably be my go to for the next couple of shows. Didn't replace with flats yet but the guitarist liked that punch that came trough with the rounds so we'll see.

I’m stuck between this or splurging a little and getting the Schecter Corsair. I’m a P bass fan through and through, so this having a precision pickup instead of two T Birds (the Schecter) is kind of pushing me towards the Guild.

@@philipprehmbass Thank you. You had a connection with the bass. If you owned it I think you should raise the action just a hair. That bass will sound even better when you have to work it I imagine.

@@FransvandenBergeMuziekschuur Absolutely! ✌ i recognized, with (semi-)hollow basses, the strings response feels slightly different in the right hand and for what one could need some moments to get adjusted to when putting out real chop-playing... as we had quite a schedule to go through on that day, and I just grabbed the bass and we recorded the intro, and we wanted to get everything done in the 1st take if possible, I went for something steady & more straight, to get it nailed smoothly... 😎
@FransvandenBergeMuziekschuur Жыл бұрын
@@philipprehmbass that’s a fair way to go about. I just heard low action. And i could hear the power in your hand/fingers. That bass would do great in recordings. With either flats or round wounds.

I loved my dad’s Guild guitar when I was a boy- the skinny neck made it easier for me to get around. Now I’m a large, imposing man with big hands, and I can’t hack skinny pencil necks like this one. It’s a pity, as this is a great-sounding, lightweight bass, at a pretty attractive price point.

It's got an old-school midrangey sound. It sounds like it has round wound strings on it, where flats would probably be more complimentary to the bass. I like the sound enough. That midrange sound is often great in a mix.

What I really want to know is what is the sustain of any bass guitar - none of the demonstrations EVER tries this. They just fiddle about showing how clever they are. Pisses me off.
