Honestly most of the new moves and finishers (Tech Prodigy's are fine) in the new update are way too over the top in my opinion and I think they don't fit the original essence of the strongest battlegrounds. Taking Martial Artist's new Heads First finisher as example, I find it just unnecessary. Instead of burying the opponent's head underground like Brutal Demon's Beatdown and Deadly Ninja's old Whirlwind Kick, the finisher is this glorified fling thing. It looks cool and all but is this entire fireworks show really necessary? I had other things to type here but I forgor. Discuss in the replies if you disagree with me.

I think the "essence" you mention is just the developers' skills at the time. The reason why they are reworking old characters and putting over the top moves into new ones could be because they want to show what 4 months of time went into. Maybe to show how they've progressed since then. I feel like with this update, they've abandoned simplicity to show how good the game can get and how much they still care for it. (Btw I'm not sure if only one person works on the game, so just ignore the plural stuff about developers)
