@@ItsB3enLikeThis There is like ONE I've seen where killing the dweller seemed intentional, why? because it dropped something I can't remember the name but the drop is one of it's spikes, it's damage is slightly less than a diamond sword and it lasts quite a long time. This what we in the business call "Good game design", rewarding the player for it's truimphs and victories, so that mod was somewhat heading in the right direction.

With it you can get your first cobblestone to upgrade your tools, get an oven or even build houses with cobblestone. You get it by breaking wood and using sticks and planks in a crafting table or find it in the bonus chest when activated in your world. But for breaking gravel it's not the best tool. Instead you should use your hand or use a shovel to break it even faster. I hope this helped you.
