I agree. With a lot of fan hacks they're just so stupidly hard that most people can't do them. Same with pokemon rom hacks. There are ways to make these games challenging and fun, but a lot of the time they're just annoyingly hard.

Agree. They are one of the worst companies tbh. I love the products they make but hate the evil, money hungry behavior. The way they treat people that love and support and genuinely help sales by playing and having fun with product is insane. Makeup company's send free product for less work and wayyyyy less love for the product. Ryu has been actively promoting Nintendo for years and they can't even send games or even treat him with any ounce of respect. Makes me genuinely angry. My kid LOVES mario and the only reason is watching ryu with me. Never played a mario game and will throw down if it isn't ryu playing it. The movie came out and he was kinda bored of it... the amount of money I've spent as a parent on mario stuff only because of ryu playing mario maker should make them love him alone lol.

Good stuff! I remember the first "Mario Adventure" way back when was like a pioneer in Mario romhacking for its time. This is a very impressive romhack as well! While it does have some design flaws, it still seems like an amazing example of how far Mario romhacking has come! I will definitely be adding this to my collection! 13:10 "Dude, it was a bubble." cracked me up! 😄

Here I was thinking that giving you different power-ups during one level was a positive. I think that thing Nintendo has been doing of sticking to more or less one power up per level makes them much less dynamic. I'm pretty sure they weren't doing that in the Mario 3 days. I recall those levels being just fine giving you a frog suit for one part of the level then a fire suit for another part, ect. Plus the fact that in that game you could buy power-ups and go into a level with any power you wanted to. Personally like that design style a lot.

It’s baffling why Nintendo doesn’t make dlc for old games. They could bang out a game like this quickly, cheaply and make some easy profit. Not to mention how much OG fans would love it. They could even do a full price game made up of new levels for a bunch of games.

Agreed. Stages with multiple power-up like that should be in the latter half of the game, specially when they can do so many different things. At the very least, you should have a few item storage slots, that way you don't keep regretting switching to a power-up that locks you out of getting to a secret area.

Cool game, but I think I should point out that ninja suit was, at the very least, inspired by the Hello Engine 3 for Game Maker. I know, I played around with it in my own little Mario game 13 years ago. Still nice to see it implemented in a romhack.

@14:57 Ya that's not very fair I think you have to hit the mushroom from above and if you grab it from below you take damage so where it was placed at in that level would qualify 99% of every player to run into that problem. Probably should of been placed in a different spot or get rid of that damage part from underneath.

For farming the cherries, there is a quick room with two cherries at 13:44, making it fast to reach the maximum number of cherries.

I wouldn’t consider cherry farming a flaw. Farming is an exploit lots and lots of games have had over the years. And with the difficulty curve of this game your gunna burn through cherries fast.

I like the frequent switching of powerups. It's not so important to always keep one as long as you can, you just get to do lots of different things instead of always focusing on keeping just the one best powerup. The difference is just mentally thinking of powerups as very short lived.

In defense of the creator, the lack of a specific theme on the levels, from what I saw, is not necessarily negative. What i am seeing is that each level has multiple themes layered together, and you have to pick your path. It really is more of a situation where you chose to be this or that, and now you can access this instead of the other road. If you look at it that way, it feels like a design choice to impact replay-ability and encourage people to check out the same level multiple times to explore all the alternate themed pathways.
