Entothyreos really does make me wonder what the Cambrian was smoking back in the day. Lobopodians being a paraphyletic grouping was something new to me but totally expected just because of how wildly different they were, reminds me of the "kingdom" protista. Honestly I wish that there was more to this thing and hopefully the Burgess Shale continues to make us question reality. Also I recognize that Minas Tirith painting👀
@ferretyluv
@ferretyluv 3 ай бұрын
Same. I always thought lobopodians just meant velvet worms and their relatives like Hallucigenia. But apparently now it’s paraphyletic like “birds of prey.” Wait, Protista isn’t a kingdom anymore? Damn, phylogenetics is changing super fast.
@ichthyovenator3351
@ichthyovenator3351 3 ай бұрын
@@ferretyluv apparently protists are pretty much just a wastebasket clade for organisms that don’t fit into the other kingdoms. So there are protists more related to plants, animals etc than to other protists.

Are there any studies on insect respiratory system vs CO2 and O2 % in atmosphere? I’m a horticulturist and seen many changes over the decades in my field but have noticed the…vanishing. Also, noticed some beetles like Japanese beetle are significantly smaller. I had learned through archaeology that when O2% were higher insects were bigger. So, I thought with more CO2% the O2% decreases and insects will get smaller or go extinct from asphyxiation. And how are earthworms affected? They completely vanished in Floyd county GA 4 years ago…I did see a few this spring but none since and I dig everywhere looking now…kinda freaking out.

Sadly the years have kind of tainted my view on youtubers, I find a new channel and I have to sort out a list of like seventy stigmas against youtube practices. Bringing a cute pet on screen, for instance, makes me think "oh yeah, this guy is insecure about his ability to run a one man show." Entothyreos makes me think of this wild west period in natural selection, where cambrian invertebrates haven't nailed down the "meta" of advantageous traits yet, so God allows for creatures to take 22 tubeworm legs out for a spin before several ecological collapses cause the taxonomic tree to streamline itself. Or maybe radiodonta hydras are the dominant species in a parallel universe?

I'm sorry, but I do not like spiders, and having one crawl all over me is one of my worst nightmares. So whilst the subject matter of this video was very interesting and highly intriguing, its attraction for me was completely wiped out by the roaming arachnid. I can understand why the video maker thought it would be a good idea- the channel is about arthropods, after all, and it is certainly a novel way of presenting the subject matter. However, arachnophobia is a thing, and the fact an arachnid is walking free all over the presenter may well be stopping people subscribing... it has me, for one. There are other large arthropods that could be used to such effect without triggering potential subscribers- a large mantid, stick insect, even a big stag beetle would be far more acceptable presentation companions!

His hunstman friend often makes appearances in his videos and if anything goes to show that spiders aren't scary, evil critters as they're often shown to be. Just don't watch if you don't like it 🤷‍♀️

So you complain about bugs being visual in a video on a channel called bugs and biology?

Arachnophobia is a thing. That doesn’t change the fact that watching a channel called “Bugs and Biology” that has a spider as a profile pic should come with the reasonable, common-sense expectation that you might see a spider. At the end of the day, this is my channel, and it’s up to me how I present my videos. If that puts a handful of people off, so be it.

You can consider it an opportunity to desensitize your phobia. Theoretically, if you're exposed to it often and learn that it is harmless in the video, you might be able to apply that logic to yourself in the future. This practically reasons your fears away. But hey, do whatever's most comfortable for yourself.

@@TheR6R6R The thing about a phobia is that its completely irrational. The sufferer can reason all they want, but it doesn't stop the phobia kicking in when triggered. I know most spiders are harmless, and I even go as far as to feed certain house spiders in the garden with captured flies. Because my dislike is so intense, and has been a lifelong thing, I've tried to counter it by studying spiders, both by reading, and by watching them when I encounter them. Nothing I've done has removed my fear and loathing of spiders, but it has allowed me to master these things to a certain degree... until I see one walking all over someone!
