I'm not one to mix spin fishing tactics with fly fishing. But this video has prompted me to think differently how I'm going to tie a few streamers! Thanks boys, great video!

Anytime you fish with anything other than a dry fry or a soft hackle wet fly, you already have mixed conventional fishing with fly fishing. Anytime there's tungsten, tin, or lead involved it's conventional.

@@eduffy4937 do you fish with silk fly lines split cane bamboo rods and horse hair furled leaders as well cuz if not then you are also conventional fishing

@@tonyhernandez2163 believe it or not my inner nerd prompted me to buy a split cane rod and a trad silk tapered, furled leader. I even have flies tied on hooks without eyes so you have to snell them on, but It's all a blend really.
@tonyhernandez2163
@tonyhernandez2163 Жыл бұрын
@@eduffy4937 what company built your bamboo? Who made your silk leader? Where did you get your eyeless hook flies? The reason I'm badgering you is because your original comment was pretty asinine. A couple of reasons why, first. To sit there and say that anything involving tungsten tin or lead is conventional is a completely incorrect statement. Second. Nobody likes a purist snob approach. We need to welcome as much info into the sport of fishing as possible and learn from every style. Third. Fly fishing is far more "conventional" fishing than gear fishing is, because as far as rod and reels go they were using fly fishing gear long before any other kind of gear. Before you criticize you should know your facts.

Wow!! Only yesterday I did the same thing AND was using the exact same spinner you had😳😁 I have always did lots of trout fishing with spinning gear and was going with an ultra light rig but lost the drag dial from the front of the reel 😮 What I had left was a 5 wt ,8 ft fly rod and has been thinking about this for awhile . The results were absolutely amazing!! North Georgia and a lot smaller stream!! Loved your video and enjoyed the scenery!!❤❤❤ SEMPER FI AND GOD BLESS ALL!!

I’m glad you made this video. I have a pocket fishing book from the 1960s that mentions spinners among fly tackle. I always wondered if that wasn’t the best use of Joe’ Flies spinners, as some of them are too light too cast unweighted.

I been doing something similar but with spoons. I reel slow and give it little twitches like jerkbait but not as aggressive. Seems to work best with longer light rods. I would suggest single hooks verse treble hooks.

So what you could do if you want to fish a spinner on a fly rod is to rake maxima cimelion and top shot about 15 to 20 feet on the rod depending on how far you will be casting and use a bumper leader off it to the spinner and fish that and then if the spinner stops working then switch to a euro nymph rig on it

Way to go thinking outside the box! Roughly 35 years ago on a carabou hunt my uncles fished flies for salmon without any takers.. They threw on a little cleo on their 8 or 9 weights and crushed the atlantics! Dont know the legality of their technique or do i agree totally on throwing hardware on the flyrod, but hey,.. any port in a storm. Also have a buddy that runs eggsacks under an indicator for steelhead here in the great lakes with tremendous results

I really want to see a spinner thrown like that for steelhead now! I'm kind of sad that all ours are basically gone for the year but I really want to try it next year. Also I wonder how a small twitching jig fished from a fly rod in kind of the same way would work. Instead of the vertical presentation it would be horizontal but it seems like a killer way to get it right in those fishes face

One thing I've been curious about: I know the value of not naming locations when your fishing in the PNW... but I don't understand the secrecy about Chile? Do the residents not want Americans booking their guide services, staying in their B&B's or spending American dinero in the Chilean economy? Is there a gaggle of report chasers ready to pounce and crowd a river or estuary out once they find out where it is? Thanks for any insight you might provide. Patagonia is an awesomely beautiful place!

Used this method before in Scotland it works good though you have to be careful you do not hit the top eye of your fly rod with the spinner as it can take it clean off,i would never use a good fly rod for this an old fibre glass rod is perfect as those old rods could take some hits and are a bit more stiff than carbon so better at casting heavier weights on a fly line.
