Super helpful video! I followed along to help make some stuff for a music video, and made notes of all of the points I got stuck, and how I fixed them, just in case anyone else runs into the same problems: 0:52 : wasn't doing it in edit mode (Scale ended up wrong) - Fixed by going into edit mode. 1:23 : Didn't realise you could type fractions etc into the little guy in the bottom left - Fixed by extruding it an arbitrary amount and then typing the fraction in. 2:53 : didn't see the angles - fixed by changing viewport mode to wireframe 3:47: Delete geometry node didn't remove the cube - fixed by going back into object mode (instead of edit) 9:37 : Took me a second to work out that we're now in solid mode (in the top right) instead of wireframe mode 15:02 : My 2 shapes were drawing from the same geometry nodes, so editing one would edit the other. Fixed by copying the geometry nodes (with the little 2 pages icon) and assigning the copy to the second shape (and later, third shape) 18:16 : Couldn't see inside the shape - fixed by changing viewport to "solid" mode instead of material preview in the top right 19:51 : Window is labelled "shader editor" instead of "material view". 20:02 : had to zoom out to see the dialogue box that appeared 20:07 : no gradient in the colour because I forgot to put the store named attribute on the main neuron (also it's case sensitive!) Thanks so much for this, I'm a beginner in Blender right now but stuff like this is super helpful.

Hey all. Here are some extra tips for those recreating this node. I will update this comment with any needed clarifications. - When scaling the plane by 0.5 in the beginning, make sure to do it in edit mode, not in object mode. - When isolating the end vertex (this is the bottom most vertex) we use the compare node to check for the vertex that is at 0 on the Z axis. If it doesn't seem to work, play with the B value on the compare node. This should increase the search area.

Cool technique, I'll try it out. I think there is improvement that can be made when you generate the base geometry. You end up with high density on each "voxel faces" but not inside. It would probably help to do a first extrusion at 0.05 and scale element to 0 to get a pyramid shape, with a transform scale it on -1 Z and offset by 0.05 on Z to get a Hourglass shape, which should allow for even better branching with the Shortest Edge Path node. Around 6:25 you can just change the Random node to Boolean which gives you a probability for each points to be selected.

I think, you can transfer factor from curve to volume using 'Sample nearest' and 'Sample index' nodes, but you need to store factor as named attribute and convert curve to mesh first (without profile curve)

Hi, cool tutorials, it feels very satisfying to do this advanced level stuff. Have you tried using a volume cube with volume to mesh as the initial shape instead of manually extruding the mesh? I didn't succeed but perhaps that is possible to make it completely procedural.
@StrayCreations
@StrayCreations Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I'm glad it was useful! I bet there is an easy way to get that initial shape but I haven't found it yet. Using a volume cube doesn't work as you need connected vertices and faces inside of the mesh. You basically need the Lattice object but as a mesh, yet there seems to be no way to convert a lattice to a mesh at this time.

Hi, thank you for making this video. I get a problem after using the "delete geometry" node because there are only deleted points in one corner of the mesh. I don´t know why this is happening and it would be helpful if you could give me a solution to this problem if you know how to solve it. Thank you

Thank you! A great way is to watch a lot of tutorials, I have a bunch of them that involve math nodes. Another great way is to hop into blender, grab an icosphere and connect an extrude mesh node (you can also use a viewer node). Now start plugging your math stuff into either the scale or selection input. Try to understand that inputs like the Position and Normal nodes contain data for ALL of the vertices and they will all be affected by your math operations. As an example: plugging position> seperate XYZ (z) > math node (set to: greater than 0) wil give the vertices of your object a value of 1 when their vertical position is above 0, and will give vertices a value of 0 if their vertical position is below 0. You can connect this output to a selection input to only select the vertices above 0.

Wonderful video, am following along but don't quite get what's going on at @6:25 -- getting a negative random number to put into "Start Vertices" doesn't make immediate sense to me. Do you know how it works? Is "Start Vertices" some kind of array of vertex indices, and you're just picking off a few of them at the beginning (so we're passing in a sort of count from the end of the array)?

This has been a great tutorial! For some reason I'm unable to add the keyframes for animations starting around 16:23. The geometry node structure works perfectly up until this point, so it's only at the key frames section where I click to add a key frame at the right times, but no keyframes are showing up in the timeline and I've tried scrolling up/down in case I missed it. Do you know what might be wrong? I'm using Blender 3.5 on Mac
@StrayCreations
@StrayCreations Жыл бұрын
Thanks! If there is a keyframe, marked in yellow or green in the value container of the node, then you'll need to select the node in order for the keyframes to become visible in the timeline
