I like that a throwaway line like ''This engine mount is for the Chevy 350 gas motor'' could save people hours, days, weeks of frustration, and a good amount of money.

We had a few of these in my TALCE units (AF) back in the 90's. Most often we'd have them as movers around the flightline/tarmac and to move equipment about. Our came wired for UHF/VHF radio use (they'd have a "shark fin" antenna on the roof) and low level headlights for night navigation. The big diesel under the hood provided plenty of power for what we needed. I'm interested in owning one myself as they were very reliable, and I'd like to make it as stock as possible, but outfitted for our operations on airfields. Do they still sell these as surplus?

Take the center plastic cap off the steering wheel and but a nickel between the center nut and the metal circle around the center steering wheel nut. And when you turn the lights on the horn will blow. Lol

Hey, viewer from Bosnia and Herzegovina here. You know, you don't see a much of old american pickups and SUV's in Europe, but I've seen a couple of K5 Blazers here and I assume they were all a military vehicles used during the war here in the 90''s. Now I always wondered one thing. What are those "sockets", "plugs" or what ever they are called on the front grille in between the headlights? Was it used for hooking up some equipment?
@05EVORS3 жыл бұрын
Passenger socket is Nato jump start plug to take power from a tank or jeep...starter/glow plugs are 24v the cab is still 12v...the 2nd alternator ONLY recharges the starting/glow plug battery. The Right side thing is infra red light to illuminate the 'bridge plate' for european theatre to let bridge guards know the weight before crossing 200+ year old bridges

Reliable, yes. Toughest, no. This would need a dana 60 and 14 bolt and some lower gearing/lockers to be the toughest truck you could buy.
@dominicsantelli50533 жыл бұрын
he said " One of the toughest..." not "THE toughest" look before you assume
@16driver163 жыл бұрын
@@dominicsantelli5053 I know what he said and its WRONG with the 10 bolt thats in the rear of that truck its nowhere near one of the toughest trucks. A truck is only as tough as its weakest link and this one has a link made of glass, its like when they were dumb enough to rebuild the trans in the comanche rather than toss it in the garbage and go with any one of the much better options

@@16driver16 Yeah clip axle... yuck
@16driver163 жыл бұрын
@@mattlane2282 I love Chevy, and its still a terrible axle, i prefer the suspension on the 1/2 ton trucks, too. Fixing its as easy as swapping in the 14bolt full float with new u-bolts and conversion u joints(unless your lucky and get the heavier duty driveshaft too) and bleed the brakes, then youd have a true tough truck.
@justingross21673 жыл бұрын
The m1008 pickup version had the 14 bolt rear but at 4:56 gearing about 55-60 the 6.2 was screaming

someone stole your pintle hitch!!! Looks like you have a (one) new alternator, new screw-on fuel filter (vs the old cube filter), new wiper motor + pump. Oil cooler lines are older looking, and will likely fail sooner than later.

Or a 700R4 with manual valve body and an Art Carr cable shifter mounted anywhere you want. The company Advance Adapters that makes the Atlas T Case in CA makes the 700R-NP208 32spline adapter. This way you dont have to mess w the special TV cable bracket on the Injection Pump and it will make you feel like you have a manual w manual shift/OD

These did not proceed the humvee, the humvee had been in development for years and was introduced earlier the same year as the Chevy CUCV program. The thinking was the humvee would be far to expensive for everyone to have so the Military wanted to expand the cucv program with GM replacing dodge. The intention was to use the gm CUCVs as stateside vehicles and even rear support vehicles in forward areas and units actually deployed with a specific need would use the humvees. However maintenance, supply and storage of spare parts of so many different vehicles proved to be a logistics nightmare and actually cost more as well the vehicles themselves proved to be very unreliable in theater and so the program was largely scrapped. You still see some modern civilian trucks used by the military but it’s largely for range control type stuff.
