Hey Tony,, After doing my CNC engraving and when I need to fill in the engraved parts, I would Always use Pin Strippers One Shot paints with a fine brush and do exactly what you just showed when it has to be a high shine. Or , in the case of multiple production parts I would design the parts and build the parts and if it needed to be glossy, I would super high polish or buff the parts I built on the cnc machines, send to either anodizing or powder coating, get them back and put back onto a cnc machine and do the engraving and more. If no shine needed, same thing but no buffing 1st. Turned out Nice Tony... Good to see you again. Ricko

Was it just the camera or were there some scratches in the finished surface? It should help to change directions with each successive grit and cut across the marks from the previous step until they're gone.
@Roetz403 жыл бұрын
There are a few minor scratches that you can see if the light is just in the right angle. You can't really prevent that, scratches came later on when wiping it off with a cloth/rag.

The fact that I can see the lapping lines would have driven me absolutely insane... I envy your ability to just call things done when they're "good enough". I've been spending the last few MONTHS lapping a 2cm diameter brass part to a mirror shine because I don't want to see those little scratch patterns at all. Haven't even gotten below 5 micron yet.
@Roetz403 жыл бұрын
The thing is: it has actually driven me nuts. Thats why I said :" I had a few problems getting the right surface finish on them". Once off the lapping they were pretty close to perfect. But by the time they were installed and I was filming them I had to clean them several times with a soft rag and that did introduce everything you see in the video. And trust me: Cameras pick up everything... So if you want my honest opinion: don't ever try to lapp brass - go with something hardened.
@SnowblindOtter3 жыл бұрын
@@Roetz40 Oh, no I just meant I admire you for being able to call it as 'good enough'. I obsess over polishing and lapping to an unhealthy degree. Oddly enough, I already found a good way to lap brass to get a good surface finish with diamond paste. I use some spray adhesive to fix some Chinese whenzhou paper to a surface plate, and dot the diamond paste on the surface to load the paper tooth with. The paper has two 'sides', where one has more fuzziness and the other is smoother, and it's soft enough that it doesn't scratch the brass. I've gotten excellent finishes going down to 3 micron, and I just managed to get a mirror from 5 micron by doing proper pre-polishing steps. The paper is stupid cheap, too. You can find it on Amazon in 25 meter rolls for about 40USD.
