I'd given up on Cummins when injured for so long. How glad I am he proved me so wrong. J Bumrah is having problems with his back cos of awkward bowling action. After watching Bumrah on the Oz tour, he is a serious match winner when fit. Has to be managed more carefully, no matter situation of the game. Or will shorten has career.

When he was appointed Captain after the Tim Paine sexual harrassment scandal in 2021, everyone (inclusing me, sadly) immediately wrote him off as a "hastily chosen, poorly thought out choice". I remember reading an article in the Australian press which basically said "OK, we now have Cummins as the temporary captain, so now... who should the REAL captain be?" He weathered all of that, and he is now being spoken of as being on par with the greatest captains... Waugh, Border, Woodfull, Ian Chappell, Benaud. (And at the risk of starting a fight, yes, I left out Ponting. I don't actually rate Ponting that highly as a captain even though he had a high winning percentage. Basically this is because of the team he had - Warne, McGrath, Gilcrhist, Hayden, Langer, Lee, etc... in my opinion, pretty much anyone reading this could have captained THAT particular team to a victory.)

Imagine how many wickets Pat would have if he hadn't been out injured for so long. He'd probably be up there with Glenn McGrath and Jimmy Anderson. He's still got years to play, he might get there yet. Incredibly his strike rate is actually improving as he gets older. He's just getting better the longer he plays.

And in captaincy, one will definitely keep him in top captains of this generation but It seems more like Australian overall management and system along with him. @@samirumair4548 If we’re talking of the best player, Pat Cummins, it has to be him, he brings a lot to the table, u need him to get important wickets he’ll get the wickets, you need him to score runs he’ll score the runs, you’ll need him to make the team win, he will make the team win, we’ve seen it multiple times in the past. But when it comes to bowling, Bumrah is in top rn, even in the absence of good support from the other end, he never fails to bowl those magical deliveries, he can almost take wickets on command.
