Drew there is not a purer expression of the sport of flyfishing than bluegill bream on a popping bug!

I got my start on a fly rod fishing for Bluegills. They bite just about all the time and can be found almost anywhere. Great casting practice hitting those spots of open water on ponds between Lily pads. Ounce for ounce, these little guys put up a great fight too. Thanks Drew.

Fun stuff, Drew! I like a bead head pheasant tail for gills… they love it!! Also a black spider with white rubber legs is a ball,too!!

Bream can be so much fun on a fly rod. I learned to fly fish on bream as a kid. The only grass carp I ever caught was while bass fishing a 75 acre private pond down below Columbia SC and I caught it on a Crazy Shad. I did figure a way to catch common carp on a fly rod years ago and have done it every year since. When they are rutting I use a single hook loaded with whole kernel corn. I "soft cast" it about 20' off the grass. The bulls will run in on the females then lay back off the bank. That's when they'll pick up the corn. They put up a hell of a fight on the fly rod. Another good fun video, Drew.

One of the great things about Bluegill is the simplicity, I spent 3 days last week with one fly.

Hey Drew, the next time you're in Wyoming, I'd like to take you to the Lander or Casper area or both or maybe the Wind River?

I fish for big bluegills at a neighborhood pond on my 3-wt all the time. Great fun and good practice for casting (dry flies), hook-setting. So strong for their size.

I find that they can't leave the #14 soft hackles I tie alone.

Fly fishing for bluegill, makeshift anchor made from a dog collar and dumbbell. Drew isn't fishing. he's making a statement. That having a goodtime doesn't require the top of the line stuff or catch the biggest fish. He's vibing.

I've been trying to catch largemouths on flies, no luck yet. I've used two different hoppers one brown one green and I've used a blue dragonfly pattern then an imitation meal worm. Even the blues and sunfish won't take any of them. Help?
@jthrash756 ай бұрын
If they are on the beds a piece of yarn would work. Those little guys get aggressive protecting their beds. I use a green weenie (PA style) in worm green and it kills it.
