I was in an abusive marriage for 12 years. My kids saw their dad hitting me and screamed for him to stop. It took me a long time to get the strength to leave him. It wasn’t until he started abusing the kids that I left him. I was given full custody and I left the state with my kids. I have now been married to the most wonderful man for 25 years. He helped me raise my kids and never lifted a hand to any of us. I never denied my ex visitation but he had to come to them and they were supervised visits.

Must always step in be like " a woman a woman a woman.." You mean the sam women that degrade, put down, back stab and lie to another woman? The same woman that talks shit about her friend behind her back? The same woman that talks smack to her girl because "Girl if my man....." You mean that same single bullshit bitch? Stop it. Let a man be a man and shine. Yes woman can do the same shit a man does except one thing.. BE A MAN!

I am truly grateful that I found y'all. I am 64 years old. In 1980, my ex-husband put a gun to my head after 4 years of abuse. My first response was, thank you Lord, the terror was over. But the (Lord) had other plans for me. I survived the night and went into hiding. That was 43 years ago and I still look over my shoulder. I know where he is, but I pray he does not know where I am. I have been happily married for 40 years. I have raised 3 great children and have 6 grandchildren. God is good! Thank you for sharing your story and letting me share mine. ❤

I was saved 15 years ago. Until then, I had never felt the warmth of a man truly protecting me, that man became my husband and we’ve never looked back. The other night we watched them perform this song on the CMA awards, and I had never heard it before. I sure cried my way through it, and all the while I was able to look over at my husband who all those years ago seemed to instinctively know how to help “rebuild” a frightened, broken woman. I am blessed and so thankful.

13 years, and by the grace of God, my son and I escaped. I wasn't allowed to drive, he'd convinced his family I was crazy, and he would even get hired at the same places I worked so he could track my every move. My precious son and I saw a lot of violence, alcoholism, and hatred. It took me two years, but God gave me an opportunity, and I never looked back. What I lost in that house with that man was 13 years of my life, but what I gained from leaving him is immeasurable. My lovely Sister, my heart goes out to you for what you've experienced at the hands of another. And you're so right- it is absolute insecurity and cowardice. But you, you are a warrior. To anyone experiencing abuse: find help. Get yourself and your kids to a safe place. Do whatever you have to- because it won't ever change. You are stronger and braver than you know. And you deserve better. ❤

I'm 57 and this song took my back to being 17, pregnant and beaten so badly by my first husband. My parents had moved away and I thought I had no one. I found out a few days later that I did have people who loved me as my parents came as soon as I called and they welcomed me with open arms. Been married now for 27 years to an amazing and kind man. I became a very strong woman, have worked in corrections for over 24 years with some of the most dangerous men (death row) in my state and yet this song took me right back to that time when I was at my weakest point. A time when I didn't have the courage to leave, when I thought it was my fault, a time when I thought I didn't have any support and a time when I could have died and my baby would have too. That night changed my life. I hadn't cried over this is so many years and here I was bawling. This song is amazing. One day I pray no woman is ever abused but this story happens everyday. Please, if you are in a situation, reach out. You may think you are all alone but trust me, you have support. Maybe not from your family as I did but from other survivors. Getting out is critical. Thank you for sharing this song.

I was there too, Jai. My husband played this song 1 day in the car on the way to work. It hit me hard like that too. We had to pull over so he could drive and give me a big hug and remind me i never had to worry about that ever again! God bless Half and the men like him and my husband ❤️ once a man hits a woman, he won't stop 🙏 We don't want to talk about it! As abused women (or men) we don't want people to have that look in our private lives, our 1st reaction is to protect him (or her) for some reason and make excuses for them and say "oh you know how clumsy I am I hurt myself doing this or that" people who know you aren't stupid though..1st step as an abused woman (or man) is to admit the abuse is happening and stop defending the abuser..

As many times as I have listened to this song, I've yet to make it through without crying. We need to pass some laws protecting men who step in & help women & children in these situations. As you & I...& millions of other women know, sometimes the System fails. Men like this are absolute heroes. He could have taken her away, but the creep would have just taken another woman & done even worse. JS

I tear up hearing this too! Especially when he starts singing “Have Mercy on me Lord” ! Michelle, perhaps it's time to learn to trust again? Not all men are like that, they are the few. I've had bad experience too. Met my current husband 17 yrs ago. We were just friends for two years before we began dating. I'm so grateful I got the courage to date him & then marry him two years after that! A man that's my best friend and treats me great & with respect. Of course, we have our squabbles, what married couple doesn't? LOL NO VIOLENCE has ever occurred! Stay strong young lady!!!

@@janeforbes8911 I absolutely agree. I've been in short term relationships but if they do something that my ex did I panic and leave. There's millions of us out here who surrender ourselves to the hands of a man in the name of love. It's been 32 years now for me, but the scars will always be a vivid memory. After 15 years in an emotionally and eventually a physically abusive marriage, I was finally able to walk away. Over the last 20 years I've dated here and there but have not been able to convince myself to open up enough to actually allow myself to be in a relationship. I've been fine on my own, but seeing the way you immediately showed such genuine concern and love for your wife and stopped the world to tend to her needs gives me hope then maybe I will be able to trust someone eventually. I recently found your channel and I love the way you two vibe off of each other. Such an inspiration to see amazing couples like you doing great things in the world!
