Excellent vid ... as a veteran swing coach, I've emphasized this millions of times ( seems so ) ... and what I tell them is this: Your hips are the boss as far as your rotation is concerned. Rotating hips FIRST ... is putting your core ( with attached upper / inner arms ) in perfect position before rotating core through impact. A one plane swing can also easily be achieved in this manner. I have my students look back & up at their club head when wound, & then tell them to rotate their hips to about 30 degrees open WITHOUT trying to move their upper core. When this is accomplished, I instruct them to THEN rotate their core ( all whilst keeping their eye on their club head ), and to their amazement, they are initiating a one-plane 'swing,' which is the envy of nearly all amateur golfers ( I really hate calling it a 'swing.' ). With loose wrists & rapid rotation, the wrists will release on their own as they have no choice but to do so AND in a perfectly sequenced order. Still essential is to 'skip a rock,' thus maintaining initial spine angle through the shot and also seeing where the ball once was before lifting the head ( which are attached to the shoulders ) to the balanced finish which should be achieved by way of body motion inertia. IMO, shots that beautifully go left is a direct result ( even for the pros ) of lifting the head prematurely which essentially turns your golf 'swing' into a 'left bleacher' baseball swing. The straightening of the trail arm down the target line is also essential. ( isn't golf a pain in the arse? ) I always like your vids & believe you are one of the few swing coaches that have viable points for your viewers. As always, keep up the good work. Cheers.

Thanks JC. You've just explained the "squat move" which I've been struggling with for years.

This is a KEEPER! I will be sure to think about this before I work on my delivery of the club. I know when I do this move, I make the best strikes and can. Tiger woods has a "short" video with this very move and we know that he's one of the best golfers ever.

There are photos of Arnold Palmer from his pomp in the late 50s and early 60s in this month's Golf Monthly which seem to exactly replicate the hip moves in this video. Seeing this video helped me a lot in how to understand Arnie's key moves from those photos

Awesome JC! This is my known fault (slide and over tilting as you demonstrated) and I’ve been prescribed this from past lessons. Can you provide some guidance in implementing the lower lead tilt without pulling shots and OTT? Thanks 🙏

Hello, There seems to be two different “schools” of the downswing. Either start to pull the club downward with the hands or let the hips start the movement, and the arms will follow. What are the pros and cons for the two swings?

I love your videos I think you should explain how your grip should be in order to pull that move off..Almost how Ben Hogan explains his grip …you have to be very precise I think in order to pull the move off correctly

One of the best in the game JC! Keep on grinding my Man. Quick question, can this same type of drill be done with the fairway woods and driver? The big sticks are getting the best of me this summer. 🇨🇦

You have an amazing swing! I have tried to do this move so much in the past that I now have created a habit where I drop to much in the left side and I fat everything and I can not for the life of me stop doing it.

Great. Pulling the lead hip back and around, instead of pushing the trail hip forward......will that also help promote the same 'squat and explode' movement? And is this mainly for the mid irons, or across the whole bag (including the driver)?

JC it would really help to use an alignment stick with a more contrasting or vivid color than the one your using, as it’s very hard to see.

Great video. Have had some good success with this move. It seems like any new "move" tends to have a miss. For me, this move tends to leave the clubface open - shots to the right. Your thoughts..? Thanks!

Another great video - your channel, really offers great coaching - when does the lead leg start to extend in the down sŵing ? Im shifting well in to the left side and have great lag until half way down when the club early releases - do I have to keep that weight and left hip moving down for longer and explode up a lot later

You're getting stuck, aren't you? When my swing feels like an unfolding law chair, I always come here to figure it out too. You're turning your hips too early, spinning out. The hips turn as a result of the centrifugal force of the club. Don't manufacture it. You don't have to. Especially when you you start your re-enter move when You're half way back on your back swing. This is the key. Re-crntering is half three equation, the other half is maintaining the 90 degree right angle in your trail arm well into the downswing, much like a hockey player executes a slap shot. Then the speed of the club head moves everything into line, including your body around into the follow through, left shoulder finishing over left toe.

The lead leg extends at shaft parallel with irons and mid downswing with driver. Sounds like a separate issue for your swing as an individual going on there

Anything else you can suggest for external feedback if you don't wear a belt to hit balls? Been doing a variation of this drill just without the stick for external feedback. Probably one of the best drills out there for getting rid of early extension, as well as getting all the ground reaction forces as you mentioned in the video. I also like to do a pump drill with this - so pump to club parallel with feeling. 3 pumps and hit after 3rd pump - often you'll hit it almost your normal distance.

@@jchowngolf Yeh nice just watched that video. I poked holes in my shorts to make the alignment stick work haha. You can also practice it across your chest without a ball - if you focus on keeping your left shoulder pointing down, that also keeps your left hip tilted down too I believe.

“Squat to square” to use rotary golfs words. Almost all coaches teach this which in turn supports your methods.

Awesome drill. I will work with this in the house and range. This is huge because rotation of hips down is a big part of downswing. Thanks so much for explaining this. This will be added in my golf drills I do everyday . I know this will help me with better ball contact and more distance

I was very intrigued when I saw the commentary on the golf swing on KZbin this time. Because your trajectory is very similar to mine. But you and I have completely different swings to hit the ball. In my case, I change the grip to a special shape at the first address and enter the swing. I discovered this method by myself three years ago and asked various places to analyze the swing data, but I couldn't meet my request. After that, I posted the video on KZbin myself and made it public. In this KZbin video, I rotate the grip position clockwise to his 2 o'clock position at address. Next, we have released a video of hitting a stinger shot from as low a position as possible. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpOZcodsoq6tfs0 I happened to find your video this time, and I was happy to feel like I found a friend who hits the same ball. But if I were to hit a ball like you, if I rotated the grip position at address to the 1 o'clock position and caught the ball with a perfect grip lead, the ball would fly hard. . I live in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. I am 75 years old now.

Don't flip....rotation squares it up! Never move the clubhead solely and directly and intentionally to the ball. Swing the entire club mechanism as the intended goal.
