I've always been a fan of Gunslinger tbh. I run Hunting Bow with poison arrows a lot and concertina arrows sometimes and Hundred Hands is definitely a must. I find the interaction of Immolators with Poison arrows funny, it still explodes them, but also kills on contact and is surprisingly quiet (the burst itself, turns out, isn't terribly loud when the Immo dies instantly instead of screaming)

There was no Gunslinger scheme back then. Most of the older playerbase doesnt want to change when they're used to the Hunter scheme. Personaly i use Gunslinger with the keep at lowered state option active.

@@ZuignapIf you like to try hunter, simply change aim down sights to right click and raising weapon to a key like [v], [alt] or [space]. You will still have to press an additional key to shoot, but it will feel much more like other FPS and holding the key to shoot becomes automatic really quickly anyway.

i played gunslinger for my first ~400 hours. after which, i switched to this weird hybrid where it was still gunslinger but my gun was always down unless i held Q to ready it. my thought process was like: lowered = not in a fight, don’t need gun readied. Readied = in a fight, always having the gun up and ready to shoot. played like that for another 300 ish hours. worked well enough but i eventually relaized i may as well switch to hunter as it’s bascially what i’m using rn. moved to hunter 700 hours ago and saw an immediate jump in my performance. something about the control scheme made me play smarter and i hit way more shots. can’t tell you specifically *why* but now i’ve reccomended it to all my friends and the ones who have switched absolutely love it too. but at the end of the day, use whatever you do best with, but if you are trying to be competitive at this game, i HIGHLY suggest switching to hunter and trying it for a while!

What I can recommend is to run the hunting bow with uppermat. The shotgun on uppermat isnt great BUT it can help you to finish targets that you hit with the bow and they survive. Usually if you hit hunter with a bow they will die or be very low on health, this is where the shotgun comes into the play. Run the uppermat switched to shotgun shot and anytime you hit anyone with a bow try to follow the shot with a uppermat. The spread of the shotgun actually helps you here because the target will (most of the time) be so low that it will kill them even if it did just a few points of damage. You dont need to aim with it and it really helps to secure the kills and therefore improves your effectivenesss with the bow.

There's also an option to keep your weapon lowered after hold pressing Q but that makes you go right into ads So I change between this when I need shoulder aim like using shotguns or change it back if I need more movement between each shot like rifles

I see no reason to use hunter scheme since you can change the settings and binds to make gunslinger a semi-hunter scheme at any given time. In my settings i basically hold "Q" for a second and my gun goes to lowered state untill i aim again with RMB or hold Q agaiin. Extra useful and easy to use. No reason to use hunter scheme.

@@rakdoxx873 Hunter looks the same.. And with my settings its much more control over it. With hunter, you need to hold a button to actually ready a weapon and another button to aim.. With gunslinger, you have weapon always ready to shoot and only one button to aim. Ability to lower the weapon is there as optional when you need it. Its just better from QOL and gameplay perspective.

One reason would be that you can see weapons through walls when they are not lowered. This happens quite easily with gunslinger, since your weapon is at the ready by default and you can't tell if the weapon is going through the wall or not. Additionally, you need an extra key for melee attacks and your base FOV is much higher with hunter (without the need to switch it all the time), while even if you change the gunslinger zoom to standard, you are missing one zoom option and I for one constantly use all three you have with hunter. It's also a preference thing, because I personally think the hunter scheme fits better with the slower gameplay of hunt compared to other fps as well as feeling smother/more immersive and natural. If someone likes to give hunter scheme a try, I would recommend to put aim down sights on the right mouse button and raising weapon on something like [alt], [space] or [v]. This way, hunter doesn't feel much different then other FPS while shooting, but you still get the benefits I just mentioned.

From weapon lowered you can go straight to ADS with one button which makes it faster than gunslinger. When your weapon is lowered it zooms out and has the same FOV as hunter.

Honestly I am not sure This has been mentioned. Though I often obsess over the idea of implementing the ability to carry your teammates in the game. Either to take them somewhere safe to res or out of the game despite being red sculled in order to save their character at the cost of their equipment. I think it would add tense moments and a new level to the game for players to salvage what they can from their loss adding emersion in the prosses. Perhaps making it so small category weapons can still be used when carrying 1 friend and none if carrying two.

bow is love, bow is life it's my fav weapon in the game, idk why i prefer silent weapons while we never move silent but my go to secondary is silent nagant poison but bow just feels nice especially long range kills are just so much fun, but when you shoot 4 arrows in 1 target and they are still alive it's kinda frustrating 😅 my first kill with the bow was shooting someone and killing them by pulling the arrow out ^^ and it had me hooked ever since (also it cheap)

Dude I JUST started using gunslinger last week! I always thought the zoom while you have your gun readied is too much, but you can change it to standard fov in the settings. Bind melee to a mouse button, don't stand right up against walls, get the first shot every time

Yeah, I'm a gunslinger player too. If you're aware of the fact that your weapons can poke through walls so just don't look towards a wall you're against when trying to be sneaky it's fine. You can also hold the switch weapon button to lower your weapon if you need to, although I wish they had a dedicated keybind for it on gunslinger cuz it's easier to just use the number buttons to switch weapons anyway.

On the matter of the reduced FOV, there's some changes you can make in the options in regards to lowered/shouldered zoom to disable it, so the only zoom you get is when you actively aim down sights.

After a short time of practice you won't even need to think about rasing your weapon anymore to shoot. I do a wee bit of gunslinger, depends what guns. Helps in the rain when running full tilt, running into someone and immediately having your gun at the ready is so helpful. Especially a shotgun like the rival 78.

I started with gun slinger and I found out if you press and hold switch weapon button it will unready the weapon. Then you can press and hold to ready, or you can ads to quickly return to ready. I don't feel that I need the unready position often enough to use the Hunter setting. But having it available so I don't stick the barrel out is useful when being sneaky.

gunslinger has a few problems that people don't talk about, primarily that guns have bugged animations coming out of reloads and sprints because it still uses the code for hunter mode, so sometimes you get bugged into the weapon lowered state and it delays and gets you killed. Crossbow is the obvious example.

There is genuinely zero reason to use hunter over gunslinger, literally all it does is make ADS require two buttons rather than one. Honestly, hunter being in the game at all is likely just a holdover from when Crytek thought the game would be much more melee and PvE focused. Hitting reload directly after shooting the mosin, you can save yourself from loosing a round on a reload. It only takes a fraction of a second longer and it mitigates bulletgrubber.

I myself when I first started with hunt and was in hunter scheme I was startled by it I expected a clear FPS experience when I just aim and shoot but this gun holstering was tilting the fuck out of me so I had to go with gunslinger without thinking about it and been playing it for past 2000 hours of hunt but yes there is that time when gunslingers stick their guns thru the walls which can get you killed which is easily avoidable as when you hold Q long enough it will holster your gun to "hunter" mode until you fire or switch so you can benefit from both schemes at once if you want

I changed to gunslinger after 700 hours of hunter and now I can't figure out how I managed to play with hunter. Gunslinger feels so much better after getting used to it. Because most people don't like to try new things and most of hunts current player base comes from other FPS. I for one enjoy the unique playstyle of the hunter scheme and find it much more fitting to the slower gameplay of hunt. Hunter scheme also has some benefits like 3 zoom options, no clipping of weapons through walls without you noticing, no extra key needed for melee and a nicer aesthetic.

Maybe don't accuse others of not reading your whole comment if you ether didn't manage to do so yourself, or didn't understand the meaning of it. Let me spell it out for you: It is easier and more natural to just not hold "raise weapon/hip fire" when near a wall (hunter) then to constantly remind yourself to lower your weapon again after each shot/gunfight or when near a wall (gunslinger). Shooting does happen way more often then standing next to a wall, so holding a key to ready your weapon is way easier to get into muscle memory then to hold a key to lower your weapon only after a fight or near a wall. Doesn't mean one is much better then the other, but when people claim gunslinger is now easier or way better then hunter since you can lower your weapon now, this is one reason why I would disagree.

Bolts/arrows are bigger projectiles then bullets. It makes sense that they would one shot

The bigger the caliber/muzzle velocity, the more likely it is that the projectile will go right through the target and not be instantly lethal. Thats why the police are allowed to use hollow point munition with a much higher man stopping power, while the military (at least in the US) is not. They have to stop the threat with fewer bullets and a smaller caliber while avoiding the bullets going through the target and potentially injuring innocent bystanders. Hitting vital points like the heart would instantly kill with any piercing projectile weapon in 99% of the cases though. Sinced the heart doesn't have a seperate hitbox in hunt though and if we especially take balancing into consideration, it is the most sensible option to make the weapons with slower projectile speed and much less range more lethal. Same goes for shotguns in the opposide direction, since if shotguns were portraid realistically in hunt, they would be the most op weapons with insta kills on more then 100 meters to the chest, especially with slugs.

So being on Hunter mode it basically prevents your gun from clipping through walls because your gun is in a lowered state unless you hip fire/ADS. However in Gunslinger you are permanently in hip fire mode so your gun will always clip if you stand next to a wall, however since an update a while back with Gunslinger you can now manually lower your gun by holding Q. So if you've been wallbanged before and were like how the fuck did they know? Well chances are your gun was clipping.

It is sad to see that while some gunslinger users claim people who use hunter are out of touch and zealous about their play style, it is gunslinger users in this thread who react harsh and defensive even if all you do is suggest a way to make the hunter scheme feel better or list some problems that still persist with gunslinger. Or they just outright insult others who don't play like they do in their first comment. I don't really get why though?

On PC there is absolutely no reason to not run gunslinger it's just better. You can just hold q to unready your weapon like the hunter setup. So why not use gunslinger and choose when to unready your weapon instead of it automatically happening

I honestly don't understand why "hunter" control scheme people even bother. It's just so unintuitive to add extra steps to shooting. Lowering your weapon is already very situational, it would just be better to have your gun up at most times, and just lower your weapon with a button whenminding your gun sticking thru walls and past corners.

looking at the comments it seems a lot of people don't realize there isn't a difference in using gunslinger for the ready state. you can setup the controls to instantly go to ads from sprinting. if you have played any hardcore shooters, then holding shift for the traditional " hold breath" mechanic is the norm. So, hunter only ends up with benefits. The feel of melee responsiveness, the 3 states of fov zoom, and the no "gunslinger moment" makes hunter better. What gunslinger is good at is allowing people that don't play hardcore shooters to start playing hunt with less of a learning curve. and is does a pretty great job at that but hunter has real benefits. not huge ones but they exist and players should be encouraged to learn hunter.

I just can't fathom people who play hunter controls. Gunslinger you hold Q for a millisecond to put your gun down. Rather than having to press a button to have your gun up and ready.

honestly don't know why people play hunter at all, in gunslinger you can hold q to switch between lowered and ready, so you get the advantage of hunter without having the hassle of having to manually ready every time you want to shoot

Use right click for aim down sights and another key like [v], [alt] or [space] for rasing the weapon. With a little bit of training you won't even need to think about raising your weapon to shoot anymore. Hunter also has the benefit of 3 instead of only 2 zoom options, being much more concious about when your weapon could stick through walls and not needing an extra key for melee. In the end, it is just preference though and for me personally, hunter is just much more fitting for hunts gameplay, feels more natural and I like that it is unique in comparison to other FPS.

Gunslinger is just mechanically superior to Hunter after they added the option to lower your weapon. With a lowered weapon you have all the benefits of hunter playstyle but you can go to ads with one button.

@@Fred.Mellow You can't use throwing axes properly, your gun is prone to sticking through walls, because even now that you can lower your weapon with Q, it is still not easy to remember while in a fight and you only got 2 instead of 3 zoom options. Other bugs have to do with melee input registration and clunky animations. Thats all I can think about right now.

​@@Fred.Mellow When u play in 6 star and occasionally 5 star lobbies, things like animation cancelling and quick swap (just to name some basic ones) is as important as knowing how to jump and vault properly. And the Gunslinger mode was only "build" in to make it easier for normal shooter players. Its not the primary/original control scheme, and u can feel it in just not holding up at a high-level of play. It Just becomes almost RNG if the games pull off what u intended to do in a hectic situation. THIS of course doesn't matter for all the BUSH CAMPING LOVER that need to find them self a set of .... (Personal play time ~2500h) This conclusion is my own and my friends, perhaps it works for some but not for us.

God I hate the frag arrows. 3rd worst addition to the game. I keep running into teams running dual bows with frag arrows. All they do is spam them and get kills from the splash damage. Really a bad move by Crytek and ruins the fun immediately if you play against them.

Holding down Q a bit to lower your weapon any time you want to is much less intuitive, especially in a fight, then just learning to hold a button to shoot. There was a time where you couldn't lower a gun when you were playing gunslinger mode, so your gun was sticking out of walls. That made wallbanging very easy. Personally I play since beta and there was no gunslinger mode, so im so use to going shift + left mouse button. Oh and I think there is slight FOV disadvantage if your gun is always hipfire mode. I would say play whatever feels more comfortable, doesn't really matter in the end of the day.
