I believe that the kind of non-logic those people operate on is "politics = bad" and everything they disagree on is apparently political. Feminists are political, SJWs are polititical, journalists make things political and so on. Meanwhile they themselves are not political, because they don't see their beliefs as opinions but facts and thus they're unquestionable. "Facts don't care about your feelings". Feeling, opinions, questioning the system and caring is seen as weak; quiet acceptance, apathy and not giving a shit is cool... unless it's personal, then you can enact your own justice. The Joker resonates with them because Joker's an underdog but he doesn't actually question the status quo or the political system, just the general "society". He kills not because class warfare, but because they either hurt him personally or he believes they did. All his actions are self-motivated and he himself even says that he's not political. The riots happen but he doesn't take part. Parasite is political.

How can you not believe it? Anyone that is a hardcore fan of anything gets crazy when their thing doesn't do as well as they expect. Other than movies another example that springs to mind is sports teams or getting an underwhelming grade on a test you expected to do well in. I’ve honestly never been as satisfied with an Academy Awards as much as this one. Parasite deserved what it got, Joaquin deserved best actor, Jojo Rabbit deserved adapted screenplay, 1917 deserved cinematography and visual effects, etc... That includes direction, script, acting, editing, cinematography, subtext, and themes. I LOVED Joker. But that movie wouldn't be this good without Joaquin Phoenix. He made the movie and the direction was pretty good too. The bgm was beautiful but...if it wasn't for the name 'Joker', it wouldn't have become this famous. The script wasn't that impressive. Overall the movie definitely good. The acting was worthy of 10 Oscars. But, the movie as a whole wasn't this good. Even as a Joker fan, I can see the movie wasn't Oscar worthy. Edit: Btw if you are a fan of Joaquin Phoenix too and not only just for his Joker role, you should check out "You were never really here". I think his acting was even better in that movie.

I haven’t seen Parasite yet, but with saying that it’s “woke”, and that Joker isn’t is simply a bizarre distinction to make. The whole point of Joker is that it’s a Roschach Test of a movie; it could theoretically be used to justify a variety of political allignments, and the inherent nature of the movie is that Arthur is unreliable and nonpolitical. Everything he does is politicized and used to incite a massive movement, but virtually everything he does is because people hurt him on a personal level. While most of Joker’s message is up to interpretation, it is for sure using political imagery to encourage its audience to think about it politically. But what’s weird with this guy is that he uses this political messaging as a reason why Joker should have won, despite claiming that Parasite *shouldn’t* have won for the same reason (despite not seeing the film and judging it purely by its South Korean director). It’s quite clear that he’s just racist and angry the movie didn’t win. If you want more evidence, 1917 was NOT an American movie and also won an award, but he doesn’t complain because he can’t tell it isn’t American at first glance.

@@Keniz99 nah, it's just a crappy movie that capitalized on Harley Quinn's newfound popularity in mainstream cinema thanks to Suicide Squad. If you look for "feminist propaganda movies", Charlie's Angels' remake, Ghostbusters' remake and Cap Marvel are what you're looking for, since they only really survived because of the explicit intent to provide bitter grown women who like to complain about the movie industry without really understanding it something to fangirl about. Charlie's Angels? Weak characterization outside of "men bad, women literal goddesses" and an even weaker plot. Ghostbusters? Tragically unfunny, an imitation of the original that doesn't manage to be nearly as charming even taking into consideration nostalgia. Captain Marvel? Could've been an interesting setup, but there are far too many plotholes, characters act nonsensically and Brie Larson as Carol is as unpleasant as she is in her interviews. Not all movies with female leads are "feminist propaganda", or at least not the kind of propaganda that makes the movie unpleasant to watch.

the 2 main reason joker is so overrated is because a) the media hated this movie, b) it's the joker. look at endgame and infinity war. these are just some average super hero movies with a more then average complex villain and it includes every mcu hero. just because every hero made it in everyone was hyped for this movie and doesn't even dare to listen to the many flaws it has. just like joker everyone was excited because it's a joker movie. even todd phillips said that originally this wasn't supposed to be a joker movie but he turned it into a joker movie so that the people are going to watch it and look it worked

I was very excited when the first bts shooting videos were leaked, but this movie was a let down for me. It was either sleep-inducing or downright ridiculous in how excessively bleak everything was, I let out a few laughs in what I guess were supposed to be emotional moments ? I actually think that while Renee did do a pretty great Judy Garland impression, her Oscar win was actually an attempt at rectifying the fact that Judy did not have an (actual) Oscar when she passed away. The win was for Garland, not Zellwegger.

Parasite was one of those movies where as soon as I watched it I was like holy shit that absolutely deserved the Oscar. So many eh moves win best picture without much talk and its kinda astounding how much of a stink was kicked up over this incredible movie. It’s reeeeaally hard for me to not just see these people as saying “foreign film bad, America good”.
