I think that she flung the shoe off her foot intentionally to symbolise that her love is ultimately with the man she's having an affair with, as well as feeling free when she's around him

I love this painting! It might get translate onto a rakish visual and even raised some controversial issues - but from my standpoint - what I've always see: are 3 innocent friends just had a carefree moment in their beautiful garden... The wind blews through the trees... A setting to killed/laugh/indulge for and there are a lot of other romantic elements or easter eggs getting its resonants throughout... specifically, of just like what you've said. Since I'm a bit of nature afficionado, the lush greenery on the background inspires the painter greately - to see it got emulated in the painting is just surreal! There is a cherub which I assumed coming from an elaborated-structural fountain - simply put; everything is perfect to a tee!

Is this woman stuck in a loveless marriage with a man who is so obviously much older? I think that when she kicks off her shoe, she is kicking off convention, kicking off the tight rules imposed on her by society. She's saying, "I don't care!"
