I totally would love to see you retrofit an oil dipstick. I have an Audi and a BMW. Neither of them came with a dipstick. But in the case of the Audi, the 2L Turbo already have a tube where the dipstick is suppose to be. They simply did not include it, so I just bought one from Amazon and thats my DIY done. For my BMW N52 though, there is no tube at all. So I don't know to put a dipstick there.

Please be aware that the placement of the sensor in this location only gives proper reading if you have removed/reversed the oil thermostat or placed a "low temp thermostat" from BMS or FTP (note, both of these are not true temperature depended thermostats. They allow static flow all the time) If you have a stock setup or a upgrade like Mosselman then the thermostat most likely influences the pressure reading.

I’ve used a tpms and installed a coolant pressure sensor since I had a cracked tank, but yours is also a good idea. Tpms is ok but it needs recharge when when cloudy days, then the sensor battery needs replacement after a while plus they aren’t very reliable. It read temperature as well so you would get oil pressure and temperature at the same time. But you need to build your own adapter with a tire valve threat. PS there are 1/8” to male valve stem threat available online everywhere That sensor can also be used with an arduino. Just map it and use a display

Running a hose away from the engine and remotely mounting the sender instead of mounting it directly onto the fitting is the better route to take. Because the sender is mounted so close to the engine, the vibrations from the engine could lead to early failure.

Hello, do you think it would have worked if you swapped the OEM sensor with the AEM sensor and used a tap connector between the OEM cable from the OEM sensor and the ground cable from the AEM sensor? In other words, the AEM sensor would sit in the stock location with an M12x1.5 make to 1/8 NPT female and the OEM sensor would be gone but the cable from the wire would still sense ground from the AEM sensor.

Now, after a few days, every time I drive, it cuts out after 2300 rpm to 3000 rpm and starts running rough and has no power, like it's lost a few cylinders or something. I've seen them being monitored by MHD, there are threads in the forums showing measured oil pressure. No nothing can save a BMW engine , just one of the German car companies that are being sued for faking emissions . Top tip for saving any engine which I use on race cars is a Harley Davidson hydraulic brake switch in the gallery made by Accel etc. Just cut any ignition wire and connect it across the terminals on the brake switch . The car will then not start until oil pressure shuts the brake switch and cut the engine instantly should you lose oil pressure . I think the last one from the US was about £15 ( $19) !

On N55 engine, there is an oil pressure sensor monitoring the oil (reading range: 0.5 to 10.5 bar) and adjust the duty cycle of the oil pressure solenoid so as to provide a specific pressure for the vanos gears, and also ease the load on the oil pump (better fuel economy) when not that much pressure is needed, am I right? If N54 engine has only oil pressure switch, then it has no control of pressure to the vanos. Then it really could not PRECISELY control and monitor the vanos gears? Maybe it would allow a wider range of limit before DME concludes something wrong (advance and retard) of the vanos?
