You are so right in, that we overuse gimbals. But the Tilta Hydra Alien can be used for fixed mounting the camera, too. It is fairly versatile.
@LukeRenard2 жыл бұрын
Yeah for me the ability to do all the different mounting options paired with the fact that I can actually air travel with it as well makes it a one of kind piece of gear!

love this review! So much insight of not just the product but the experiences you have with it. Makes me more confident to get it. I also love the shots of all the still shots. You made sure to remind us creators that its not always about the movement and to let the viewers eyes wonder in a still shot.

Thanks so much! definitely a unique tool that can be used for far more than what its advertised for. I think still shots, when done right can be some of the most powerful

Really stupid question but I can't seem to figure it out. When hard rigging, how exactly did you do that with the tilta. I have the rig and it's epic for car chase scenes but for hard rigging, the shock absorber plate that the camera sits on causes unwanted movement. Did you use a tripod head instead. to mount the camera onto the tilta hydra alien, like on the L3 bracket.Thanks!
@LukeRenard11 ай бұрын
hey sorry to just be getting back to you but yeah thats exactly what I do I just take a tripod head and mount that directly. I cant post some photos of it on the next project I use it for if that would help

Any tips to remove the vibrations on the Hydra Alien?
@LukeRenard2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark, Good question, thats one of the hard parts of this system being a one size fits all within a certain weight range but I know that some people have modified the vibration dampeners to help make their set ups extra smooth. I haven't changed mine I just found that making sure I really dial in the shock absorbing arm helps a lot. Also a setup that is a bit heavier seems to work better with the vibration dampeners and for me whenever the gimbal is "engaged" meaning I am slightly moving it one direction or another it really helps for some reason. Lastly of course one of the biggest factors is the car you are using and the suspension system it has in conjunction with the roads you are filming on.. I know this is why a lot of hollywood chase cars choose specific cars for their speed and suspension. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the great video! But how do you adjust the C70 settings (Aperture, ND, etc) while ur driving? DJI has completely removed the C70 from its compatibility list. Using the R5 is easier since those settings can be adjusted, but obviously has it quirks. Would love to know how you use the C70 for that matter. Cheers.
@LukeRenard2 жыл бұрын
Hey Eric thanks for checking it out. I’m with ya on the C70 compatibility issues.. it’s definitely not the perfect camera for it because of having to always manually change things (I’ve relied on light not changing to much with in portions of the shoot and the C70’s insane dynamic range as back up but definitely not ideal for everyday use. I like the R5 a lot as well but have found I don’t like having a camera with IBIS when hard mounting because it takes a way from the look I’m usually going for and sometimes adds a lot of extra jello to the footage. I think the R5C is a great option for the set up and with DJI’s improvements to the RS3 I think all the C70 issues will be solved.
@AngelsLensRED2 жыл бұрын
@@LukeRenard you think the rs3 would be compatible with the Komodo 6k
@LukeRenard2 жыл бұрын
@@AngelsLensRED the RS3 Pro.. definitely! The RS3 doesn’t have strong enough motors or room for mounting the Komodo or the C70 but the RS3 Pro’s main improvement is the way they designed the arms to fit bigger cameras like the Komodo and even v-raptor 👍🏽

Did you have good results before any footage stabilising etc? Curerntly I am having real issues with completely unuseable footage whether in underslung mode or on the car bonnet withiout the arm use. Really jittery in all functions. IBIS/IS on/off. Supersmooth on/off. Just cant seem to get it wokring well.
@LukeRenard Жыл бұрын
Hey man! Sorry to hear you haven’t had the best luck yet! What camera/lens combo are you using? And what kind of car? Sometimes the vibration dampeners need a little extra weight before they are engaged.. I saw Tilta just recently released a separate vibration dampener for the hydra system for this reason..

@@LukeRenard Hi. Cheers for the reply. Really frustrating… using canon R5. Tried with 70-200RF. 17-40, 24-70 and 50m EFs. I have the new lightweight isolator plate from Tilta too now. I had a homebuilt isolator which worked great. I’m thinking it may be the gimbal issue as everything has been the same. No there is jitters with the homebuilt unit when that worked fine. Very strange.

Beautiful shots and thoughts. One question, how do you use the raveneye and get a monitor feed? Im using Canon R5 on the RS2. With ravenye this takes up my hdmi port used for the Atomos Ninja V feed.
@LukeRenard2 жыл бұрын
The way I got around this was by using a hdmi video transmitter and looping it in between the camera and the raven eye..
@anthonybryantmedia2 жыл бұрын
@@LukeRenard Ah got it. I actually just solved it about 2hrs ago. It now works by having the camer in to the atomos and and hdmi signal out to the raveneye. Of course, not wirelesss but works for me. Appreciate the response.

@@LukeRenard just wanted to ask what hdmi transmitter were you using in addition to the raven eye? I’d like to copy your setup with C70, RS3 pro, and the Tilta Hydra Alien, thanks man, great video and awesome shots!

Which wire do you use from ctap to ronin ? I need one, and do you reccomend one for the komodo
@LukeRenard2 жыл бұрын
The Hydra System comes with a cable to run from the ronin into D-Tap that is connected to the V-mount or Gold-Mount plates. For the Komodo you would want to get a D-tap to DC or D-tap to a Dummy battery and then just make sure you buy one with a little bit of length so that you still have full movement of the Ronin

@LukeRenard Жыл бұрын
I haven't done any true off roading with it. however the roads here in Sicily are pretty poor with tons of pot holes and bumps and it has handled it better than I thought, I've been really impressed with the footage considering the roads.

Great question, From what I know as long as it doesn't interfere with the driving of the vehicle and it isn't a danger to other cars then its okay but I'm sure every state/country is different. My main priority is always making sure its super securely attached to the car and then the rest is making sure I'm not endangering anyone. after that I just operate how I want until I am stopped and then would take it from there.. Hope that makes sense I know its a bit of a grey area

@@LukeRenard my friend knows a traffic cop ( I’m in the UK ) and asked him what he thought about it, he said as long as you are driving safe and not hanging out of the car.
