The significant difference between both Russian and Ukrainian immigrants we have here, and the Middle Eastern immigrants we had in 2015-2019 is: 1) the Slavs , first thing they do upon arrival, they aske where the bank is, they go and open their account, with their personal documents they brought with them, and they start a small private business, ir get a job at someone else's business. 2) the middle easterners, and Pakistanis and Afghanistanis, the first thing they do is, they ask where the immigrants center is, they go there and ask for donations, money, free clothes, free healthcare, free housing in immigrant hotels. And they practice a religion that is not only different than ours but that explicitly preaches the annihilation of our religion and us, its believers. It's a big big difference. I am pleased to see that many people have found their second home here. However, one concern I’ve noticed is that they seem to be making little effort to integrate into the local community. For example, I haven’t heard of many Russians attempting to learn the Serbian language. Instead, they are opening restaurants, shops, and kindergartens specifically catering to their own communities. This tendency to create spaces that primarily serve their population may unintentionally cause further separation from the native Serbian people. Additionally, Russians and Ukrainians have significantly contributed to the rising cost of living, particularly through driving up rent prices and influencing a general increase in prices across Belgrade and Serbia. I don't judge them for leaving their country, of course, but I do judge them for giving nothing in return and not supporting local communities but creating their own. It is a bit selfish.

Some of them will leave, some of them will stay. I am seeing them on the street, they behave well and the fact that they speak their language freely on the street means that they feel safe. I am especially happy for the Ukrainians who found their security in Serbia. Serbia has not declared its intention to deport them back like Poland or some other NATO countries. This is not the first time this happened. There were University professors and even Academics who escaped Lenin's butchers and resettled in Serbia. We learned from them because they knew many things that you couldn't find in the literature.

There was a big welcome for these people in the beginning. They received other benefits, like free train passes to visit the countryside. That is not true. The current government came to power in 2012 with the help of Washington and Berlin and has been their loyal ally ever since. The government is handing over Kosovo, mineral wealth, subsidies for foreign companies and much more to the west, in order to stay in power, because Washington and Brussels can easily replace them. A few days ago, the autocratic regime signed a contract for the purchase of French fighter jets worth almost 3 billion euros. Chinese planes with the same characteristics cost twice as much. It is true that the government did not impose sanctions on Russia, but when it comes to the political relationship with Moscow, the positions of Belgrade and Brussels are slowly approaching. The Russians did not arrive here as refugees and they do not have that status nor do they seek it. They got here because the companies where they worked moved them here, and they are still well paid. Most of them have no contact with Serbs. One of the reasons is language. Russian and Serbian are Slavic languages but they are not so easy to understand and Russians are not willing to learn Serbian. In Serbia, there is a strong media and political influence of the West, it is not an exaggeration to say that Serbia is a client-state of the USA. Under the influence of the "soft power" of Western media, culture, fashion and pop-culture, a part of the Serb population developed the feeling that everything Western is the measure of virtue and of success. These people often develop a sense of contempt for their own nation, which, in their opinion, does not meet the standards of the West. People of such opinion fanatically accept all Western political and cultural attitudes to the extent that they turn against their country and people. Even when the West displays open propaganda or military aggression against their country, they still believe in the infallibility of the West and the guilt of their country. In Serbia, we call this phenomenon "autochauvinism". I notice a similar phenomenon among Russians and other non-Western peoples.

Why would you flee Russia to a country that is an ally of Russia?
@miroslavstevic20364 ай бұрын
Because the draft officers can't find you to give you summons, and you have papers proving that you were out of country? Because you have a small business working with Canadians on a software project, but you can't send/receive money via SWIFT? Because you can declare as Serbian to your Russophobic American employer who wears blue skirt and yellow shirt? First, Serbia is a true but distant friend, not an ally in the traditional (formal) sense.
