And down by Kosciusko, where the pine-clad ridges raise Their torn and rugged battlements on high, Where the air is clear as crystal, and the white stars fairly blaze At midnight in the cold and frosty sky, And where around the Overflow the reed -beds sweep and sway To the breezes, and the rolling plains are wide, The man from Snowy River is a household word today, And the stockmen tell the story of his ride.

Been there many many times and visited the grave of the man who inspired Banjo to write that poem .His name is Jack Riley and his grave is in the Corryong Cemetery. There was movement at the Station for the word had passed around that a colt from old Regret had got away and he'd joined the wild bush horses he was worth a thousand pounds and all the cracks had gathered to the fray

And Clancy of the overflow came down to lend a hand, no better horseman ever held the reins, for never horse could throw him while the saddle girths would stand, he learned to ride while droving on the plains. The mountain spoken of that the man rides down is Mt Leatherbarrel and to this day they say that Jack Riley is the only man to ever ride down it ,you should go walkabout up there Scotty there is a lot of history in that country I've been camping and fishing up there for over 50 years and I just love the place

@El Guapo mas macho It's an amazing place freezing cold in winter with a lot of snow and it can be hot as hell in the summer vast open plains and high mountain peaks ,and just the Kosciuszko national park covers an area of 6,900 km square Kilometres with many rivers ,streams and lakes with some fantastic Trout fishing for Brown ,Rainbow and Brook Trout .In the south western boundary it adjoins the Victorian Alpine National Park which covers another 6,474 Square Kilometres so it's a very large piece of country .

That area you camped in is hands down my favourite spot in Australia so far, and I've seen a fair bit of it. Woke up one night to my own Brumby encounter there with a lone mare sniffing my swag then laying down next to the coals until the sun came up. Such a magical place that makes you feel alive.

Thanks Scotty! Your video skills are amazing. Another thing on horses, as much as we love them, they help weed spread in a number of ways. Horse's have teeth top and bottom, so they tend to nibble grasses to the root in a similar way to sheep. In drought times this leaves areas of bare earth which aids weed germination and growth when rains do come. Generally speaking in National Parks we should have close to zero weed species. State forests should be managed this way as well, but they are often neglected by governments. I walked parts of the Hume and Hovel track to the north of where you are in this vid. Much of the walk was through enormous weed fields due to neglect. The additional biomass from weed growth also helps promote tree top fires as well, because of the increased mid level vegetation. This allows for fires to jump into tree tops easier than normal. Well done with this vid. I am enthusiastic about a trip to the high country in 2021!

I spent my young days in Canberra and did many trips to the same areas you frequent on your trips, south coast of NSW, Budawangs and Snowy. Your videos bring back great memories. I live in a different part of Australia now and after many years (about 30 of them) I've recently rediscovered the joy of immersing myself in nature. I understand your thoughts on the brumbies. There was one trip in the late 1980s where we slept in a makeshift lean-to made from the ruins of a burnt down hut only a few kms from where this video was filmed. We had brumbies visit during the night and I have to admit we didn't sleep well. I love the videos. The tips on bushcraft, gear choices and meal ideas are great and it's good to see you're not just plugging the latest trinket that a sponsor has provided you. Keep up the great work.

What beautiful country, the High plains of Kosciusko National Park. It's the the source of the Murrumbidgee, the Goodradigbee and the Snowy rivers. I love it, and still enjoy a visit when I can persuade the missus to dive me there! But don't be fooled by the Brumbies, I have seen enormous damage done to both flora and fauna on the Murrumbidgee above Tantangara simply from their hooves. it's my favourite part of Australia, along with the West McDonnel ranges out from Alice Springs.

Wow! The Snowy's look spectacular! People make a big deal about Australia's outback (which are definitely epic) but the High Country is our best kept secret. I've never seen these gorges in photos or books before. It looks like the area gets more horse visitors than human. That's probably a good thing, human's would wreak 1000% more havoc.

Nice to see u leave the hut tidy,in general most people do the right thing, which doesn't apply to some people on the trail n they have to leave their calling card wherever they go, sad to see!. Follow u here n there, quite like it what u do . As i was in the outback many years ago, woke up in the middle of the night a whole herd of brumbies came along ,slept in the car those days, what an experience it was, n they whiled a while before galloping off! Keep up the good work mate!

As for the wild horses .....l would argue that they are as important as the the alpine huts are in our history here , they just fit beautifully in to the landscape , just make room for these iconic creatures.

Yes, you do have beautiful countryside to behold. Camping alone, it can be a little scary, even though I've camped this area called Pigeon River many times and yes I love to camp by my self, one evening at about 2am I heard this baby crying did tell my self it was just a baby raccoon, so I drifted off to sleep again well then it woke me again about an hour later. I'm use to being alone in the woods and it isn't scary well this night it got to me of course I tried every thing to justify the noise, it was not working, so I ended up clenching my knife, I was stupid ( the tricks our minds can play ). Have a good time fishing. Bye for now.🤠
