Carlotta] Where does the time fly? Simply too few hours in the day Oh, a diva's work is never done No release, no time for fun Not if a diva has to run An opera company Every small detail to supervise Every pretty face to scrutinize I plan beneath these eyes This opera company Why take on this arduous chore? Sleepless nights I pace across my bedroom floor Why do I live completely for This opera company? 'Cause it's Mine from the stalls To the portraits on the wall From the balconies and loges far and near It belongs all to me Every item that you see From the cellars to the crystal chandelier From the floating marble grand facade To the elevated promenade From every toilet bowl To every leading role This place is mine I will sing, I will glow I will never let it go I will hold it ever captive in my hand Like a god, like a queen I will enter every scene And control it like the kingdom I command And I pity any baritone Who attempts to tread the stage I own With no polite request He's here at my behest 'Cause it's all mine My curtain and my canopy My song, my key, my chart My grand romantic destiny From here my life will start I'll be out on the stage Looking great and half my age Every chance I get I'll get them on their feet I will burn, I will scheme I will realize my dream For if I'm not in the light I'm incomplete And the best part I'm just coming to How they'll all applaud for you know who I can't believe I'm here And this is my career It must be Seen like a torch We'll engrave it on the porch Like an edict, like a beacon, like a sign This place is mine!

Really lovely playing! Just wanted to give you a heads up that I think the music your working from like mine is incorrectly marked. The second section starting at “mine from the stalls to the portraits on the walls” (measure 32 in my edition) should really be at a tempo half note = 88 NOT quarter note = 88 which is marked. That section should be noticeably faster than what comes before. Additionally it would be great to give a singer extra room in measure 17 on scrutinized, as it’s not usually sung in tempo. It’s frustrating at it’s not clearly marked in the score and so there’s no real good way to figure these things out without working with a singer on it. Listening to as many recordings as possible always helps because standard performance practice isn’t always indicated very well on the music.

Thank you for the kind compliment about my playing. Actually, this was a commissioned track so I followed the instructions given to me. I'm so sorry for your frustration with the score copy and the subsequent recordings you've been attempting to work with.

It being a commission definitely makes sense then. I’ve just found it frustrating to communicate to pianists I’ve worked with that the score is an inaccurate reflection of the actual piece. But regardless of course always default to what the singer needs! It’s lovely of you to share your hard work here and it’s such a wonderful resource for singers who aren’t able to work with pianists, especially during these times. So thank you very much!

You're most welcome. It's my pleasure to share these tracks - but nothing compares to live collaboration between a singer and an accompanist. 🎹💕

What a great discourse between musicians 😊

i had to speed it up which was weird for the first verse but otherwise speeding up helped

This was a commission I did according to that singer’s preferences- maybe that’s why it felt odd. 💕

@@MarionAbbott OH THAT MAKES A TON OF SENSE! I’m super used to the chorus being way faster lol
