Looks great Trevor. I am looking forward to getting the Star Adventurer Gti and have one on order with Bintel in Sydney where I live. I have a couple of portable rigs as I am a pilot who travels frequently. The little one is an AZ-Gte in EQ mode with a 50ED refractor / ZWO 485. That works great and set up is five minutes. It is the one I use when moving frequently. In Perth Australia I have another set up I store in our hangar as we spend a lot of time in Perth. It is the 72ED / ZWO 183 Pro on an Ioptron Smart EQ Pro Plus. I take that one if away for two weeks or more. Sometime I set it up at the airport and the plane is my astro shack. Lots of snacks readily available. Love all your videos.

@A_RosnerNZ2 жыл бұрын
@Astrobackyard - couple places you didn't mask your GPS co-ords (when showing telescope control screen) And yeah. Plate solving saves a ton of time. When doing plate solve to get scope position, you want to be doing it closer to the celestial equator than to the pole. My new rig (powered by APT) started complaining to me about that one time!

I started my AstroPhotography journey last fall with a star tracker, digital camera, and telephoto zoom lens. Polar alignment and subsequently finding my targets have certainly proven to be challenging ... BUT ... I like that I'm learning the night sky through the process of star hopping. Even though it's been time-consuming to do it this way, it has given me FAR more satisfaction (as a beginner) than if I had used technology to do everything for me. I definitely plan to "upgrade" down the road to a setup like this one, but not until that "I actually did that!" satisfaction wears off.

I got the magic cable (RJ something or other) this past November. WOW! It makes life so much better in combination with my ASIair, HEQ5 Pro mount, and iPad. Plate solving for polar alignment not only makes alignment possible when an object is blocking the view of Polaris, but it also eliminates awkwardness of viewing polaris through the polar scope, making mount adjustments, all while trying not to bump the tripod. Now I can set the tripod height based upon obtaining the best stability for the telescope and camera, and not whether I can bend my neck to peep through the polar scope. As you point out, ZWO has done a great job with their software to get the telesope on target. I've gone from typically needing about 30 minutes of set up time to start photographing to 10 minutes.

This setup is almost $8000 which is out of my budget range for my 1st telescope. Also I cannot find any planetary imaging with this setup. (Edit: after reading some more, this cant take planetary or galaxy photos due to small 61 mm apeture. Its mainly used to take pictures of nebulas) For my first scope, I want a motorized scope with green laser pointer so I can learn the night sky. I am thinking of purchasing this setup with only the 50mm guide scope, zwo 120mm mini, airplus wifi and green laser attached to the guide scope. No telescope/zwo 2600mm pro/filter. This will reduce overall cost to $2000. In future, I can purchase a telescope when I am ready for astrophotography. Is there a better way to set up a motorized mount with wifi go-to functions and attach a green laser pointer to it? Can the 50mm guide scope attach directly to mount? Can the Airplus plate solve with only the 50mm guide scope? Only other good options I see are also expensive (with motorized auto-align, go-to feature, wifi): Stelinna 3.1 inch $4000 Nexstar Evolution 8 inch HD with starsense $3000 (use to be $2400) Vespera 2 inch $1500 I think Celestron 8 inch w/ starsense is the best option but due to pandemic they are out of stock. Also charging $600 more than when it was released 6 years ago. Maybe I will just wait until they release a new version.

My portable set-up is an 102mm/F7 Orion ED refractor with an ASI294MC on an iOptron AZM Pro mount. No guiding for 30s subs. No problem. It worked excellently even in conjunction with SkySafari 6. I was missing the camera framing and rotation. Now I used the SkyAtlas feature last night for the very first time. Sooooo convenient :-) The Sky Atlas interface and map is something to get used to, though. Not very detailed and not as easy to read as SkySafari and similar planetarium programs. You need to basically know what you are looking for in the ASIair Sky Atlas. But it adds so much more convenience, especially for image framing and camera rotation. It looks really amazing… For a beginner with astrophotography, starting with a mirrorless or dslr camera, would you recommend the star adventurer 2i or the newer star adventurer gti? For the next step, is the 72 ED Skywatcher a good option? Thank you very much!

I am searching for a kinda small Telescope with Star Tracker and maybe a guide camera. But just the camera alone is really expensive and ive seen kinda larger setups for less. Is there a way that you could showcase a kinda budget of these ? I know there will be missing some features if lowering the price but.... thats fine

can't wait for my SA GTI to arrive :) Looking forward to finally having a night and light travel setup! On the other end, I'm going to upgrade my EQ6-R to a 10u GM1000 HPS so these small and light setups are a great alternative when you just can't be bothered to setup. btw, how have you connected the ASI Air to the tripod?

I love the beat in the background. Who made it?

Hey Trevor, I have a question, how do you attach a dslr with a kit lens or a ballhead to the Skywatcher Star Adventurer GTI? Because I've had this question for quite some time now and I just can't find the answer to it.

There are adapters you can get that basically are a vixen dovetail on one end, and a screw on the other that you can use to mount a dslr or ballhead to it. The original star adventurer came with one of the adapters, the gti might as well not sure.

It does not come with an adapter. You will need to buy a separate vixen dovetail plate. WO make a nice one. You need it to have a 1/4 inch thread and bolt for a camera, or 3/8 for ball head. Hope I got that right😅

Hi Trevor, loved the video and your infectious enthusiasm for all things Astro. The ASI Plus is in such short supply in the UK that I decided to take a punt & bought a s/h ASI Air Pro at a great price from a UK astronomy selling site. This along with a cheap Wi-Fi extender has completely transformed my astrophotography experience at a time when I was becoming frustrated with how long it was taking to get set up & capturing images. I can now set up my HEQ5 pro polar align & be shooting in less than 15 minutes rather than the long winded manual PA & less than accurate multi star alignment routine. More of my time under elusive clear skies is spent obtaining data on targets which I have struggled to acquire in the past. I know detractors gripe about the ASI Air’s lack of support for third party Astro cameras but I’m still using a supported DSLR and having a great experience nonetheless. A cooled camera is still a long way off for me but I’m having so much enjoyment with this set up that It can wait a little longer. Keep up the great work & I can’t wait to see what comes from your new dark sky location😀🌙🔭

Hi. Great video. Wondering how you attached the ASIAir to your tripod?

A simple question: What samsung galaxy tablet model are you using? The reason I ask is because some of them have very bright front lights which light up every time you touch the screen - which is VERY BAD for night eye adaptation!! Sincere thanks!

isnt there a cheaper camera? because i have a 1budget and im looking for a good scope at that price,and if there is another mount?

Does this mean you do not need to polar align before using the Goto feature on the Skywatcher mount?
@michaelclancy78742 жыл бұрын
I tried going to Polaris to center and "Goto" but got a message it was too far away? ( I could see it on the screen) If I plate solve on a few other stars I can then got to say M31 and track & image?? Keep up the great work and Happy Holidays!! Mike
