Great lesson! This is one of those things you only need to have explained once, and then it helps you forever. Thanks for being a good dude and helping others out like this. Also loved your Smoke on the Water bonus bit of awesomeness.

This really blew my mind- separating out the two hands has really helped me see my weak spots -it's time consuming to work it out but thank you!

I'm just a guitar player, but I've been checking out some mandolin lessons over the past couple days, and a lot of the ideas apply equally well to both instruments. Thanks for making me a better guitar player, Nate!

That’s great to hear! One of the best mandolin technique gurus I know is primarily a guitar player. He does pretty much everything the same on both instruments. - Nate

I've Always felt like It was a Sync problem between left and right hand. But yeah I'll check also how and where your finger are pushed against the board. I Just don't get It how sometimes, with some strange body and hand position, things comes out fast and clean, I Just want to be able to sit and hold the instrument the working way when needed to😂. Thanks for the video

Just saw this. A right/left sync problem can cause a lot of things to go wrong. It's one of the main things at fault when things are going wrong for me. It also is commonly present along with not pushing fingers down far enough. The best thing I've found for fixing a sync problem is to first identify which hand is behind (these days it's always my left hand), and then remind myself what needs to change. Then I start playing and let my subconscious brain fix it. If that doesn't work, then it's back to grinding on slower tempos, haha. Is there anything in particular that has been helpful for you? Or any videos I could make that would help? - Nate

Yes, that’s a tough change to make. Even minutes a day of practice on it makes it more manageable though, and over time it gets real results! - Nate

It's a great lick, isn't it? It's from the David Grisman song "Janice". You can find the tab here: acousticdisc.com/product/dawg-latin-music-book/ - Nate

You don't address right hand speed. What if you can't pick that pattern cleanly with the right hand and nothing fretted? Do you have another video to address that?

For me my left hand can't seem to keep up. Also, as I go up the neck the strings get tighter and the pick feel is totally different for me.

I know what you mean! The changing string feel as you move around makes it harder to play consistently. - Nate

It is most likely your right hand. See if you can play a very simple melody at the speed you are attempting, and I think you'll find your right hand is what fails first.
