I just got back from his shop in Illinois. Drove 13 1/2 hours from NY to have Ahmed and his team do 30,000 Mile service including the transmission. MY 17 Tacoma ran flawlessly on the way back to NY. Worth every mile I drove to have the team at TCCN Automotive work on my truck. I wish that gentleman best of luck. I believe you AND he are going the correct route. With 90,000 miles, if tranny seems all right, I'd TAKE a chance & fix shocks then axles. Only 90,000 is worth the risk. After repairing everything, he ought to get an undercoating job done. It will prolong lines & frame. Looks in great shape! And STILL better than car payments/price of a new one. 👍

Don't know about USA, but in England and presumably Europe there's no specific oil change interval on the 5 speed auto transmission, at specific intervals the workshop is supposed to inspect the oil, presumably by taking a sample from the level plug...by the way it still annoys me having to mess about underneath to check the level instead of a dipstick. The same box is found in Prado from 2004, most of us sensible owners give that ''no need to change the oil unless'' instruction a good ignoring, gearbox failure among those of us on the Landcruiser forums is unheard of. My Prado is 19 years old now and despite being in England where salt is used extensively in winter the vehicle is still rock solid, but i do treat the undersides with ACF50 spray and keep the chassis coated in marine grease.

Your average salt/ rust belt car lasts 10-12 years. Yes you can mitigate the issue with Fluid Film or similar (one time sealers don't work), but few do. The point being this car has lasted longer than most (perhaps it was moved out of the rust belt at some point, but the damage has been done) but replacing calipers and brake lines when the frame is turning to powder doesn't make sense, so they drive them until they break.

Thank you so much for your video. This is extremely relevant for me right now as I just replaced all these lines, as well as the inlet and out trans cooler lines coming out of the transmission on 06 V8 4runner. I'm somewhat a beginner DIYer as it's my first time doing many of these jobs.. but watching your videos like this for certain really makes me feel like I'm learning a whole lot and its starting to pay off. Much described in the video of what this 4runner needed is what I have taken upon myself to do on mine - CV Axles, Wheel bearing, seized front caliper, and trans line leaks. Almost identical. It's just that in this video, unfortunately his car has far worse damage regarding the rust. I pray for him that his transmission comes to back to operating order. I love my 4runner, and as a matter fact I have two of them, both 06s. My V8 has 183k, while other one is a v6 with 337k miles now and runs flawlessly. Maintenance really is key, and I can't wait to complete my v8 as a full on learning project and overland build. I just worried about the potential loss of ATF, but she feels really healthy otherwise and I feel a lot better about it with research regarding the topic. I'm happy to see such supporting content and look forward for updates this truck and it's transmission. I pray for the owner that he can keep his baby. If all works out, maybe he can look to upgrading his suspension instead of going stock - a worthwhile fun, upgrade and investment while he'll need to do it.

I told my wife the tranny is roached in this thing. we looked at other trucks but i kept going back to the taco. I spoke with there lot mech . we decided to add fluid and see what's, what . he dropped the pan and it had 1 quart in it . put a new filter and refilled and it flippin worked ! my wife said well the paint is roached . lol i bought it anyway. drove it home and it started vibrating in the front crap !! wheel bearing is roached. I replaced it when i got home. and the truck has run flawlessly. motor oil was so clean you could see through the oil to the dip stick on a truck with 218k miles. I nicknamed it roach . Just when you think this thing is roached it shows you it isn't ! I actually love this little beater. now on to repair the paint.

Two, Toyota Truck was in the title, being the owner of an FJ Cruiser, I have noticed that many FJ owners and aficionados refer to the FJ as a truck. I was pleased when, right at the start (0:16) Amed included the FJ in this KZbin’s subject. Makes me ask a question: Can an FJ Cruiser owner, generally expect, to find some relevant information in KZbins about Toyota trucks?

The xreas system helps for you to justify to your spouse buying a Bilstein 6112 front and 5160 rear set when it's time to get rid of the xreas! I had that set up as the TRD Pro add-on for my Tacoma and you essentially get speed AND comfort all in one package. The xreas does actually assist with dampening the side of the vehicle that is loading-up in a corner- but I had similar results, if not better, with the old TRD Pro suspension on a Tacoma, which was the Bilstein 6112 + 5160 setup. My Tacoma had this same issue- it literally was bleeding little bits of fluid when I traded it in for my 4Runner.

Amad, I am sure you replaced many other Tacoma shocks. Why not do the costumer a favor and install those used shocks where you removed (may have a little life left)? So, you can safely drive the 4runner.

Hey brother, take care of your diet and quit carbs and sugar, it’s way more dangerous than buying a 300k miles bmw 😂. Best Toyota channel on KZbin!!

How do you determine that the boot clamps aren’t original? Please elucidate when you evaluate a condition of a part as “bad”; why is it bad? Thank you. I appreciate your work.

Just blows my mind why people won’t spend 10 bucks and 10 minutes on a can of fluid film and easily get double the life of your vehicle.

You would need a jack stand to easily get under there, but it sure is worth it if you want to keep your car for a while or if the car is old and at higher risk for corrosion.

My V6 Rav4 has solinoid issues. When cold the car won't move. If I warm the engine for 15mins it drives fine. Have done partial ATF change with filter but same issue occurs.

Why doesn't he do an entire episode on proper vehicle undercoating, since we see time after time (pretty much ALL) cold climate Toyotas rusting themselves into oblivion? The corrosion & oxidation (cancer) flaking leads to underbody vibrations, leaks. Such a pity....

I think chrisfix has a good video on fluid film undercoating cars in general. But if somebody makes a Toyota specific video, im sure that has extra value.

If I had a mechanical shop like the CCN shop, I would look for a newer 4-Runner and put my money in something less rusty. Spending $5K to $10K on a rust bucket, no matter the low miles, seems like pounding sand down a rat hole and expecting the rats to be gone.

What is the part number for the lines ? My 05 V8 isn’t leaking yet but one of the two lines is VERY rusty and I’d prefer changing them before a leak occurs

Why not drain the transmission and put the standard replacement amount in rather than play with stand pipe?

With 99k miles if someone didn't get a pre purchase inspection they would probably buy that for 15k then realize that it almost needs to be in the junk yard.

As a late member to Toyota and this fantastic channel, the rate these Toyotas rust is much faster than many other cars, especially the German ones. It looks like Toyota component specifications lack corrosion resistance requirements. I make this observation as someone who lives in UK. Thanks for the video.

Would you do a video on XREAS Suspension? I don’t want to wait for it to go out on me. I’d kinda like to prepare for what I’m concerned is inevitability. I’d like to start the process of purchasing replacement shocks. I’m just uncertain where to begin.
