Ever since they were thought of, regular propellers have had a bunch of inadvertent issues, which prohibited them from reaching their full potential. High levels of inefficiency, a lot of noise and ruckus, as well as their general imbalance led to us believing that aircraft and maritime propellers have reached their limit a long time ago! But what if we were wrong all along? What if there is a whole new world of exploitation of propellers that we’ve been ignorant of for all these years? What if the solution to improving the efficiency, smoothness, and noise issues was not to change the concept of the propeller itself, but to add a new one, that would rotate in the opposite direction to it? That is the idea of the Contra-Rotating Propeller, and today, we’ll explore how it works, and how it could completely revolutionize the future of aviation! So, let’s first check out what they are!

No no Contra rotating propellers are not the future. They have been around for almost 100 years and They are incredible noisy, expensive, and high maintenance. They produce great power yes but The goal is to increase the efficiency of standard propellers and decrease maintenance and complexity. Ducted fan, Ducted turboprop, Fan Jet hybrids or low speed props, q-Tips etc are where I think the tech should go .

They produce tremendous power, it will be fascinating to see how they overcome the incredible noise factor. Those toroidal maritime propellers are a piece of engineering beauty (and efficacy), they are almost appealing enough to be considered sculptural art forms.

lol, regular propellers are already about 85% efficient on average, getting more than a few percent improvement is impossible. This is just as bad as those absurd claims people were making about toroidal propellers after MIT wrote about them.

What a joke. The video talks like these props are a new idea. They have been around at least as far back as WWII. They changed the future of a few high-power prop planes, but are hardly seen in new airplanes, and will hardly change the future of aviation. Give us a break from clickbait BS.
