I have a few FRS radios, I can hear them on my scanner, but for some reason the FRS radio picks up the signal better than the scanner does

Scanners aren't optimized for any one thing. They are a veritable jack of all trades. They do everything yet they do nothing well.

Compander is probably speech processing or compression. ( The old Lafayette Radio CB walkie talkies had a switch called "Range Boost" that increased the modulation percentage). The scrambler function is probably speech inversion that mixes the TX audio with the CTCSS tone. I have some Kenwood FRS radios that work that way.

Looks nice. If bluetooth realy works you parhaps can also use it handsfree in a car when driving with muliple cars as a group to the same location and easy stay in contact without using mobile phones

Yeah Bob , I was also excited at first with the hidden screen . Appreciate your realistic test , and even giving the performance a second chance. So , the instructions weren't chinglish , but maybe some long lost Greek dialect. As long as you got Mrs. K6UDA to cozy up to it for reliable close in comms where normal devices fail ; it's definitely a win for you even with star studded accolades. Great little radio ! And they come in pairs too . Um , those contacts on the sides bottom ? Yes , that looks like a stand that you can put the radios in . But the part that impresses me is you might beable to encrypt the frequency your on . So you can cuss your ass off at her / she at you , when you screw up . And as with any radio , they work best at LINE OF SIGHT . They are simple . That is fantastic for short distances . Why not . Better than tieing up your cell phones .

Are you talking about scramble or encrypt? Two different things. Or are you talking about Privacy codes which arent really private at all, anyone can listen, Privacy codes only allow you to block others from cutting in on your conversation, but they can still hear you and if they find out your tone, they can also unblock and start talking to you. Scrambling is illegal on FRS and GMRS the category these radios fall into, and these are analog radios so there is no encryption.

@@sgiff military . It doesn’t make a difference if you have spend time adjusting for / to it . What they do now it locate the signal on what ever frequency , and if it’s not a frequency friendly units use , BOOM !

Another thing to consider for FRS radios: in a shtf situation, you can crossband with them to get that additional range.

Give Them All to people that I know I want to stay in touch with and when they supposedly don't have a license especially when the power goes out any cell phone dies you can't charge them

Frs has a 0.5-1w limit, your definitely not gonna get far with those. The old emergency portables like GE, Realistic, kraco are what you want.

Not true, FRS can now do up to 2 watt except for channels 8-14 which are .5 watt.
