Mix Pour is my favorite pouring medium. I can do an 8 to 1 ratio of pm to paint, so my paints (which are way more expensive) last longer. And it's the perfect consistency at 8 to 1 for a ring pour with no water added. The furthest I can stretch the other pm's is 3 to 1. I also love the transparency I get with Mix.

Excellent Testing! Thank you. About the separate floetrols. The primary point between US & Aussie floetrol is that the latter is meant for acrylic paint & the US is meant for latex. It's THE reason the acrylic floetrol works for acrylic paint. Why isn't OZ sold here? Profit Motive. Since houses in the US use latex paint (and spray/brush additive floetrol) compared to houses in Australia that use acrylic, this is one reason for the stocking in separate countries. We acrylic pour artists aren't enough to tip the import and price reduction so unless US homes start painting with acrylic, we're not going to see the Aussie floetrol at Home Depot anytime soon.

What a great experiment! I will say, Mix Pour has become one of my most fave PM due to the ratio availability. I can easily get a 1:8 (paint:PM) ratio with the same vibrancy as 1:2 ratio of Floetrol. Mix also has a beautiful transparency factor and dries to a gloss finish so, overall I save so much money on expensive paints and varnishes. Thank you so much for sharing this experiment and giving us options! Much love! ❤

Thank you - I can't believe how much work you put into this. I hope you wave these as a teaching tool. I'd planned to send you some Mix, actually, to test. I started using it because of the pretty results I'd seen in United We Pour. Shipping aside, the jugs of Mix and of Floetrol run about the same price. Thing is (1) the difference in size of jug and (2) the ratios. I think they recommend 7:1 with Mix (I'm not in the same room as my painting stuff) without adding water. If you use it again, try a ring pour without the swipe - the transparency IS beautiful and I got some pretty results. But I began this journey watching you and U.S. Floetrol, and it's been a pretty WOW you're right about the black swipe - SO pretty! As aways, thanks for everything. I'm grateful. Purrs and hisses 😻

Thank you for sharing your experiments. In the U.K. all the mediums are expensive, Aussie Floetrol is astronomically expensive, so a no go any more for me, I use Owatrol, but that is still £20/litre (2.2pints), Liquitex pouring medium is around the same price on Amazon for the 946 ml and I don’t use it often. I have done many successful Dutch pours with just paint and water and gotten cells (Amsterdam and Monte Mart paint mostly, plus Arteza and Pebeo). I have just seen reviews on You Tube for the Amsterdam pouring medium, which are really positive for using it as a cell maker and at £24/ litre on Amazon, just a bit more expensive than Owatrol,so I am going to give it a try.

Thank you Tammy. Amazing as always. I love watching your experiments and art pieces you create you have taught me so much. You are to art as Nigella Lawson is to food you both make everything look so scrumptious. I was wondering if you have tried using the Decoart ready to pour cell medium. I bought some from Michaels here in Canada and it just explodes cells all over the place. Not sure if it’s a good thing or not would love to see a video if you ever try it. You brighten my days and I look forward to seeing what’s next. Take care

For me it all depends on the style I'm doing. MIX is great for ring pours, straight and ribbon pours I add a bit of Liquitex gloss and medium with a splash of GAC 800 to mainly floetrol, flip cups, I use a PVA/Glue and Floetrol, water mix. Have yet to use Aussie Floetrol, but am considering it. 🤔 Thanks as always for your expertise! Loved the meme of Jill.

This was really interesting! I love the owatrol and of course the aussie. The mix looked good too, but like you said it is more expensive than floetrol. But some people just use it to thicken up their paints. I live in Canada so of course shipping is a huge deal breaker for the Mix. I have never liked just liquitex as a pouring medium. I do add a squirt in my floetrol mixed colours though. It give a weird feeling to the paint even when I've added too big a squirt. And it dries really fast. Love to get my hands on some owatrol though! I can't believe you pay only 14.00 for a gallon of floetrol in the states!! We pay about 45.00!!

Tammy thanks for demonstrating the differences between different pouring mediums and the outcomes. The one good thing about liquitex is that it dries shiny but for me it is cost prohibitive. I usually use American Floetrol and save my Aussie Floetrol for cell activators. I have a question. Sometimes my colors look grainy on the canvas. I don’t usually add much water so I’m not sure what’s causing it. Do you have any ideas? Thanks for the experiments. 🥰
