I LOVE this anime. I was watching it as episodes were released and it's genuinely so sweet. I'm usually more into series like JJK, Naruto, Demon Slayer, stuff like that, but this one jumped out at me and despite being way outside the realm of series I like (minus the isekai aspects, I love me a good isekai as well) it grabbed me by the throat. Start to finish it is up there among my favorites and now I'm going to go rewatch it

Honestly Maria has the best chance with Bakarina due to being uniquely positioned to appeal to her sweet tooth AND being probably the most wholesome in her feelings among the whole harem. Oh, and there's a similar show airing this season, albeit with a less...airheaded ex-villainess XD

It doesn't exactly break the trope, its just that shounen and seinen series are more advertised and talked about in the West rather than shoujo and jousei where reverse harems are pretty common. 😊 Villaness series are especially abundant these days

Thought this was one of the most popular reverse harem of recent year. Or rather this whole sub genre of "the hero is the villainess" theme and setting blew up a few years ago (especially in webnovels) and this was one of the most popular ones.

I'm actually quite familiar with this anime. Not only have I watched both seasons, I also own several volumes of the manga (including the spinoffs), plus one of the volumes of the light novel. By the way, there's actually another manga that I recently discovered that is somewhat similar in premise (in that a girl from Japan reincarnates into the body of a villainess from a game that she played), but unlike Katarina Claes, she chooses to play her role as a villainess to perfection. The reason being is that she cares for the heroes so much, that she wants to see them become the characters that they were in the game. Of course, due to certain actions that she took earlier in her new life, the characters greatly admire, if not love, her. Thus, things don't go the way she planned. The manga is called "The Villainess Stans the Heroes: Playing the Antagonist to Support Her Faves!" There's only one volume out so far, with Volume 2 due out in October 2023. But it turns the isekai trope of the girl reincarnating into the villainess and trying to avoid her fictional counterpart's fate on its head. I would frankly like to see that manga become an anime in the future, once enough volumes are out.

@@hazie3375 No problem! I mean, it's only similar in the sense that the girl reincarnates into the villainess of a game she played. But other than that, it's completely different. As I said, instead of her trying to avoid her game counterpart's fate by being a good person, the main character tries to follow her game counterpart's role to a T, in order for the heroes of the game to turn out the way they did in the game, and she can watch it happen with her own eyes and cheer them on in secret. Plus, her exile is said to occur at the beginning of the game, and not the end (in comparison to Katarina Claes, who would have been exiled or executed at the end of her game). However, a series of impulsive decisions that she makes ends up radically changing the fates of certain characters. For example, a Dhampir who was supposed to grow up to be an assassin ended up becoming her butler and closest confidant instead (and maybe even something more), all because she took him back to her home to nurse him back to health after he took out the people who abducted him as a child and trained him to become an assassin. So this story is being set up to be radically different than Hamefura and other isekai stories where someone reincarnates into the villainess and tries to avoid their horrible fate. As someone who likes seeing tropes being subverted, I will definitely be giving this one special attention! It's just a shame that Anime News Network gave it a mixed review (one person giving it 2.5 out of 5 stars, the other giving it 3 out of 5 stars). Fortunately, Amazon's reviews are much higher (with it standing at 4.6 out of 5 stars).

This anime is being adapted to a otome game by Idea Factory. They should make an anime about someone that reincarnated as an evil character of that game.
