That sword fight really is one of the greatest ever. Jill Bearup, a stage combat enthusiast has a great analysis of it on her channel, but gist is that a fight is only as good as the people doing the fighting, and Mandy and Carey may have started off novices, but they were dedicated to that fight and worked really hard.

My husband and I were heading to our hometown to get married. I was a nervous wreck. We were packing up everything and I was terrified I'd forget something important; this was it. Our friend took Doug (the guy...) aside and said "I just saw a great movie. Let's kidnap Barb and get her over to the theater." So they literally each got on one of my arms and dragged me to a movie to get me some space. And it was The Princess Bride. Watching this here hit all the feels, in all the ways you can possibly imagine. For almost 37 years, through kids, and moving, and education and breast cancer, I cannot count the times we have said to each other, either word for word, or with love and in deed: "As you wish."

The first time I saw it was in sixth grade, back in the late 80's. Our teacher told us in advance, "We'll be watching a movie on Friday," to which the classroom responded with cheers. When he then revealed that the film would be called _The Princess Bride,_ we all groaned softly in unison. In spite of the lack of enthusiasm, that weekend, it became, and has remained ever since, perhaps my favorite movie. Now an adult, the irony (that I was/am the disinterested little boy) does not escape me. So, do I think I've learned to remain receptive to new experiences? _Only compared to some._

I think I've seen the movie on VHS at least 126 1/2 times. The 1/2 because the tape SNAPPED in the middle of watching! Right at the miracle max scene! We knew the film so well we acted out the rest of the scene without a hitch and laughed through it the whole time. I had to play Westley because I was the youngest and everyone else wanted to have lines! My family also quotes this movie incessantly... Whenever someone leaves the house to do something we say "have fun storming the castle!"

VHS? You could have sticky-taped it back together! You'd have to have taped up both sides of the magnetic strip, but that would be enough to hold it for another 60 viewings! You might notice some tracking issues where the magnetic strip is stretched (before it snapped) but that's part of the -frustration- errm 'Joy' of VHS...

I have no idea how many times I've seen the movie, but it must be at least 20 times for the full movie. The movie is entertainment "comfort food". Like a warm blanket and a cup of hot cocoa while sitting by the fireplace on a cool evening. A timeless story with fantasy, love, action, humor, redemption, mystery, suspense. Reiner did a great job directing. It's clear the actors loved their characters and poured their heart and soul into their performances. The cinematography is gorgeous. The editing could be a master-class, with the pacing being near perfect. Wrap it all up in the beautiful soundtrack by Mark Knopfler. What's not to love about the movie?

When the promotions started I was STILL the only one there. When the movie started I was STILL the only one there. I thought about leaving so that they could all go home, but then I thought - when am I ever going to get my own private screening in an empty theater again? - So I sat there and watched it through to the end and nobody said a word. One of the most charming, beautiful, wholesome films of all time that is absolute perfection in every way. To change anything…one line of script, one glance, one note of music (nod in homage to another movie masterpiece Amadeus) would take away from all that is extraordinary about The Princess Bride♥️🥹♥️. I’ve long lost count of how many times I’ve seen it and I could turn it on again any day, any time and I would be instantly engrossed. These characters and the lines they speak have become woven into our hearts and minds; part of the fabric of our culture. It’s a treasure for which I honor every single person who contributed to this work of artistic genius ♥️🥰♥️🥰♥️🥰♥️♥️🥰🥰. Thank you all xoxo

Thank you so much FactsVerse!! I feel honored for the ask and your reply♥️. I am an avid lover of all things related to movies and the stories behind the films that lend so much to my deep appreciation for every aspect of the process. The cinematography, music and score, the costumes and perspective. I could go on and on. I love the focus on the greats, the so called classics “Gone With the Wind”, the “Godfather” and another of my personal favorites “To Kill a Mockingbird” which is a work of art; but never to forget those films that are brilliant in their own right but may not fall under the traditional idea of a ‘classic’ such as Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” which is precious or the incredibly clever and brilliantly voiced “The Emperor’s New Groove”; or the forgotten genius of “Ragtime” a brilliant, tragic, magnificently acted and executed film. I think you’re doing a fine job but I will definitely post if I think of anything I’d love to see! Thank you so much for your content which is wonderful! And for reaching out☺️🫶🕊️.

Everyone says Andre was such a kind and gentle person! It makes me happy knowing he was such an amazing person! There are so many fun, silly, and funny stories about him. Tho my favorite has to be the one Hulk Hogan talked about in an interview. An experience he had with Andre while on a plane traveling to the next WWE match. Apparently Andre scared all the passengers and attendants on the plane because he let out a massive fart. The fart apparently shook the plane slightly and made everyone think the big BOOM sound of his fart was one of the plain Engines exploding!😹 From what I remember of the interview Hulk had to apologize to everyone with Andre and they had to calm everyone down and tell them it’s ok Andre just farted that’s all! we aren’t going to die it’s fine! We are OK! 😹😹😹 if I could find and link the clip from that interview I would lol😹

My cousin and I watched this film many times that we knew the words by heart. I would listen to the audio soundtrack and could visualize every scene from memory. I won a free drink once in a bar when I answered the trivia question: Who composed the music for The Princess Bride? My cousin wrote to William Goldman and asked him if there would be a sequel. Mr. Goldman said there was a problem with getting "Buttercup's Baby" off the ground. I don't remember why, but he did say it would most likely not happen. He said to look at The Princess Bride characters like REAL people where good endings are only for the moment. I won't repeat what he said about the most likely future of the characters. To be honest, it was like he had given up on life and wanted to pass his sorrow downstream.

I can't remember how many times I've watched it! Say the words with it! Lived in the Chicago metro area earlier in the 80's and was happy to see the Refrigerator Perry poster! Was so sweet when Grandpa said " As you wish!" to his grandson! My son saw it in the late 1990's. He was 7 or 8. He laughed so hard at the Albino's gravely voice, then the cough and a "normal voice" And would do that scene All the Time! My sister and I have gotten together as adults for a T.P.B. watch party!

I cant tell you how many times I've seen the Princess Bride. I'm old, almost 43, so every time it aired, it was on the TV. We had the VHS when I was a kid. I bought it when they released on DVD and again when the released it on Bluray. I own it on my Prime account so I can watch it on my phone or tab whenever I want to. I've made sure all four of my kids love the movie. And its sort of a subconscious relationship test, I could never be with any one, biblically, that didnt like this movie. Idk man, thats like asking me how many times I've seen Die Hard. I couldn't count it, so its infinite.

My daughter is 27 years old, she has some mental health issues and can't sleep without this movie, since childhood. She sleeps to the movie almost every single night... On repeat. This is at least better than the stint she went through as a baby where she had to listen to Neil Diamond's Christmas Album... fine in November, and December, but by June I was ready to snap that CD and I am the one who bought it, excited because I like Neil Dimond. So, if you figure she has watched at least 3x a night, for 25 years over 27,000 times she has watched it... Yes she wakes to turn it on, or if anyone chnages it or anything... Yes she knows every word, yes she has the book.

My late wife grew up in the '80s and this was one of her favorite movies. I had never seen it when we met but she talked me into watching it, which I agreed to because she frequently did joking references to the movie that I didn't "get". Although it's not really my kind of movie, I thought it was ok and certainly had its funny moments, but it will always hold a special place in my heart because of her. It became one of our many common experiences and source of inside jokes. One or both of us would often use lines from the movie in appropriate real life situations, such as "Inconceivable!", "I don't think that word means what you think it means", "Have fun storming the castle!", ""Think it will work?", "It would take a miracle. Bye bye!". Sigh. Now I have to go watch it again and think of her.

Instead, *I* will carry that torch even if no one ever reads my work. 🐲✨🐲✨🐲✨ "Before I start, I must see my end. Destination known, my mind's journey now begins. Upon my chariot, heart and soul's fate revealed. In time, all points converge; hope's strength resteeled.
