I wouldn't say it was completely dominant, there were NES clones competing appropriately here too (like the Phantom System by Gradiente, Turbo Game by CCE and Dynavision by Dynacom, the latter of which was in production all the way until the mid 2000's). The Atari 2600 was also huge even while the NES and Master System were current. It's just that, somehow Tectoy still hung on to that Sega license to continue making those master systems. They also made Mega Drives, Saturns and Dreamcasts so basically the whole console line except the handhelds.

1:18 the reason Sega partnered with TecToy was because of insane import tariffs in Brazil. The MS would be unaffordable if it came from Japan. So, they built them in-country under licence to get around this. That's not true at all, it was pretty well known and sold in major retail stores like "Garbarino", quite a few years before the family games flooded the market. It didn't sell a lot because it was expensive compared to the then popular home computers, with the C64 taking the throne.
@lvl90dru1d4 ай бұрын
haha, basically the same situation was in Russia, Famiclones (Dendy) vs Megadrives (original and clones) vs 3DO/later PS1 Master Systems were uncommon for some reasons: 1) they were available for the unholy prices in 1990-1991 (5000 of them were imported from Brazil) 2) you can import it, usually from ex-East Germany (most consoles on the second market got there this way) but this wasn't for everyone too 3) or you can buy it officially as late as 1994 (too late, huh?) And SNES was just as expensive as 3DO/PS1 but only as good as Megadrive, so there was no proper market for it

Yeah, same here, if you don't count the Commodore Vic-20 as a "console". While I know that the Sega Master System was nowhere near as popular in Canada as it was in Brazil, I think the Master System was a bit more popular in Canada than in the United States on a per capita basis. This is just anecdotal but there was a good two to three years up to about 1990 when most video rental stores in my area (just west of Montreal) stocked Sega Master System games in addition to NES games and even a few TurboGrafx-16 games. Obviously, once the Sega Genesis gained steam, the rental stores liquidated their Master System game selection.

You're probably right. Our mish-mash power grid mads we adapt to both voltages really fast. Even non-switching power supplies tend to have a switch (no pun intended) to change the transformer coil ratio to both 110 and 220, or 127 and 240 per our standard.

@arturpaivads4 ай бұрын
@@volvo09 Nope. Same plug, imagine the share of burnt devices plugged in the wrong voltage. This is not a problem at your own home, you normally use a single voltage across the house and have only a few marked sockets for the other voltage if your region have both but elsewhere, including hotels, you need to be aware. And there are regions that are only 220v, regions that are only 110v and regions like mine that have both in the form of split phase, which is really at your choosing if you want 110 or 220 at your house. Luckly most modern eletronics can switch automatically to both Ironically we have two types of plugs for 10A and 20A. But not for 110v and 220v. Although the 20A plug just has bigger pins so you can plug 10A devices in 20A sockets. Its a neat design but they should have done the same for 110 and 220, specially since in most cases plugggin a 220v device on 110v nothing happens, but the other way around is a sure smoke situation.

I"m Brazilian and in my late 40's so I play this game brand new (when they were actually new), and I can say I'm appalled how come no one plays master system clones in the rest of the world?!?!?! HEHEHE Seriously though, it's amazing how many clones of the systems I play as a child I can still find here! Even in the Raspberry Pi people install master system and mega drive emulators.

Phantasy Star? R-Type? I guess the former needs a battery backup so never mind.

fun fact: Tec Toy still releases games for sega and are capable of making a sega video game and even revive canceled sega video games.

This reminds me of that one post that supposed a future where Sega just kept adding on addons to the Genesis instead of making a new console.

Just watched this whilst working form home.. Great video still have a master system PAL version sadly without the FM chip.

Plugging joypads from one system to another with the same form factor pin connectors could spell doom for a console because certain button combinations could be executed when using a wrong pin layout which could cause electricity to run through an only signal wire & fry whatever components are traced to it. Apparently if you connect a Mega drive controller to an Atari 65XE computer & press the red start button, it'll go POOF!!!!!

Man, sometimes I kinda miss the wood veneer TV (singular) we had back in the 70s. The high pitch whine from CRTs were especially bad with that one. Then, in 1980 we got another wood veneer TV (a Grundig!) only this one had a REMOTE! And not as bad a whine. The remote looked like a Jaguar controller and was about the same size as the TV for all the two channels we had available for our viewing pleasure.

NTSC isn't 30fps, it's 60hz interlaced and since the consoles from that era were 240p the result is a 60fps result .

Heck, TecToy is now "manufacturing" (i.e. building from chinese components to get tax breaks) credit card machines.

You should also do a video on Zeebo, a failed console TecToy made, released here in Brazil, and some south america countries, and Mexico

Over here in the states, we I had the NES, but my older cousin had the Master System. I loved the Master System.

In the US, the Master System was distributed by Tonka. They really had no idea what to do with a video game system, so it languished.

Up and comers can learn basic programming on these even if the skills no longer translate as well to modern hardware. It’s nice seeing older consoles still getting new releases.

man, I had almost forgotten about pal-M 😆😆 I had my snes playing in grayscale for a few days before my dad got a signal converter, who knows if it added any latency, I was none the wiser. Later our TVs adopted ntsc compatibility along pal-m
