Darren a tip from an old man that did what your going to do, first the ‘bikes’ you have family! now the move! don’t live in your past, embrace the future, try not to live as a ‘tourist’ live as a resident of this country. there are to many positives living here to mention the main one is the cost of living of course which covers many aspects things you maybe not even thought about, ‘power’ in a condo you pay for this monthly without a/c almost impossible to pay more than 1000 baht a month, no standing charges, as water very very cheap, the cost of food at markets, beverages, all a fraction of the UK prices and fresher! data sim cards unlimited data around £40 A YEAR, other positives! never having to wear a sweater or even a coat again, long trousers a thing of the past, a hair cut a massage £2-3, if you have a car/bike fuel a quarter the UK, cheap road tax, people 100% more friendly here, crime? very very limited it’s safe! i could go on and on, lastly DON’T look back only forward, safe journey

I was going to suggest the same thing. I did that in Ontario a few years ago. The dealership gave me two prices. The dealership would buy the bike outright or you can wait until the bike is sold and get more for it. I had to keep the insurance on the bike until it was sold. They did not allow test rides.

Long time subscriber here, DJ... I could see this happening a mile away for quite some time. I say GO FOR IT! Do whatever makes YOU happy! Great that you have the blessing of your family. The ONE thing I'd strongly recommend (and this isn't from personal experience, thank God) is to be careful with the women over there, and their intentions towards you and your money. Don't fall into the classic long-trodden trap of a Westerner meeting the first Thai lady that batters her eyes at you, buying a bar and house (all in her name), and then having her and her family fleece you. The Thai 'justice' system has a reputation of having the scales tilted in favour of Thais, over 'farangs'. If you run into any issues over there, see the Thailand TOURIST POLICE, and NOT the police (if you can help it). I'm sure you're far too sensible to be taken for a mug, but I'd hate to see you being taken advantage of - and love is often blind. If you do it all right, you'll be able to live like a king, and have your You Tube earnings suplement your existing savings - to the point where you might not even have to touch your savings. I wish you the best in your journey. I say all the above out of caution. Do with it as you wish. Look forward to seeing your journey, as you transition to life in a foreign country. Take care, mate!

@@DarrenJohn Life’s great here thanks 🙏 Before you commit too heavily into Thailand come over to Cambodia for a visit especially to a place called Kampot, it has a slow pace of life set in a beautiful countryside location on a river, there you will find a high concentration of delicious food from all around the world. I really think you’d like it mate, it’s only 2 hours bus/taxi south of Phnom Penh the capital. The motorbike ride up and down Bokor Moutain and The National Park there is just beautiful and you’re only a 30 minute ride to the beach in Kep. Then you’ve got the islands, Koh Rong & Koh Rong Sanleom, still mainly unspoiled just off the coast near to Kampot. Being 55 you’re eligible for a 1 year multiple entry retirement visa which will cost around $300 no money needed in the bank, it’s easy peasy! Khmer people are mostly very honest, friendly and respectful, especially in the countryside. All the best wherever luck takes you Darren.

Like a mate of mine Steve moved to New Zealand, they knew he was going to live there for 10 years due to his job but his mum/dad decided to sell up their home and move there as well! However the garden they had a very deep slope and his mum lost her balance and rolled d own the garden with a pole in her neck-his dad was out shopping and spending time with Steve came back 6 hours later and she had already passed away. Really sad thing she tried to call the ambulance with her mobile phone and nearly called the number before she lost too much blood-such a lovely woman could of been avoided 😥 They should of stayed in England + house they had been in for over 40 + years.

Hi. I moved to France with my job a few years ago. The advantage is the weather and there’s less concentration of people……more space. UK is congested if you live south of Leeds and it’s all got a bit toxic. The advantage of being close is that I still get back to see my friends and to go to a football match. Western Europe is still for me, the best place to live and I’ve traveled more or less everywhere with my job including Thailand a few times so I do have experience of other places and cultures. I sold my bike (Daytona 675) because it’s pointless in France and bought a naked bike instead. Far more practical. Put em on EBay and get rid asap.

Agree. I moved to Thailand in 2003 (and loved it), but subsequently moved on to Malaysia and Philippines. Always kept a home base in UK though. I worked for a while some years ago for a software company near Aix, and fell in love with Provence...

Darren, i understand completely why you say you are going to try Thailand for a year. I understand the caution NOT to put all your eggs in one basket. But the World is rapidly changing and many are /and will get left behind. None of us are getting any younger. When you go to Thailand Darren, be 100% FOCUSSED on what it is you are aiming to achieve . Think long term over short term... Think of it like you simply CAN'T fail and failure isn't an option. You will be amazed how resourceful a human being can be when he has GOT TO succeed. If you truly do all the above i think you will be fine . If not, you gave it your best shot. Good luck.

Never bored with your vlogs DJ, every one so far has brought worthwhile content for me. These last ones before you head off for Thailand are very poignant for me, you to me are in essence London, its history, food, people and everything that is London. I sincerely hope you enjoy and make a real go of it in Thailand but at the same time wish you were still around to enrich us with your London knowledge and love of the place.

So soon DJ, can only wish you good luck and happiness in Thailand but did wonder with your love of Tenerife, why not there and re tune your vocal cords, earning a few bob doing gigs like so many expats do in Benidorm. Could taken Daisy at least with you.

@@simonmarks2860 There was a programme on TV over a year ago-showing when the pound coin was 40 years old! It then showed what you could buy with that pound in April 1983 + you could buy a dozen things. Has DJ got back to your message at all???? Also he did say he might be there for 3/6 months or a year-so if that is case no point in trying to sell them even thoug he has said he has sold one of them-where in UK you from Simon. I'm in Kent 🙂

@ hi Mike - not heard back from DJ mate. I remember when the pound coin came out. Money goes nowhere these days. I’m in NW London. Some great 80s docs on KZbin as well
