Great video explaining the geometry. I put the exact same kit on my lifted 4runner after some research. Adjustable panhard bars are a waste of money for most lifted 4runners, but this kit is a huge bang for the buck....and no welding!!! Great mod!

When you go over a bump and your rear end hops to one side... you'll know you need to correct it. I ran without one for a while, definitely not something you want to go without. It's sketchy on wet roads and snow/ice. You want to get diff drop kits as well.

Greetings..I congratulate you for the very accurate level of explanation. I did the same job approximately 2 weeks ago and it was like you, 1/4 of an inch on the other side, the same as yours....as you did or as you have it configured at the moment, the truth is that it is frustrating for me because I don't see the correction even though others may have achieved it, since not many videos are published about the results, only the installations that are done on different vehicles.....if you managed to compensate the two sides as it should be, I am referring to the same measurement on both sides, please let me know if it is of interest to you, thank you very much

I don't think the issue is with the center of the panhard bar, as much as the angle of the panhard bar. If the panhard bar is set at an angle rather than level, then when you extend the rear suspension, you end up with a side-to-side component as the panhard rotates around the frame mount. When the panhard is level, flexing is almost entirely vertical.

I'm just wondering, wouldn't you also want lower the passenger side a bit as well instead of extending the driver side more to level out the panhandle bar so it would handle bit closer to stock. Then again i guess that why we have bump stops to limit it from going to far and bottoming out. i just feel like if you do it to one side you should also do it to the other.

Question? It looks like you have an adjustable Panhard bar? So why would you still need a relocation kit ?
@drkdss8742
@drkdss8742 Жыл бұрын
Because that only takes care of centering the axle. The geometry is not corrected. You can correct both with putting the BOTCK on. And yes you can use a stock oem trac bar.

Hey Zach, thank you for the how to. I have the kit and am going to install next chance I get. One question I have that no one seems to cover is what did you do to reattach the ABS line? In all the videos I've watched, everyone removes it from the bracket but nobody shows how they secure it after installation. Any advice would be appreciated.
@OverlandEngineer
@OverlandEngineer Жыл бұрын
Yeah I had this problem as well…I removed the clip and zip tied it to the brake like there so it would stay away from any arms and the spring…I have no idea if this is best or right but it’s what I did. A quick message to DrKDSS would probably solve this.

Stupid question. So having the trac bar adjusted to straight will be ok? Because when loaded up for trips, won't the right side Trac bar then angle down to the right a bit, or is that no big deal?
@OverlandEngineer
@OverlandEngineer Жыл бұрын
No it's a smart question. I think it probably comes down to where do you want your baseline to be. In theory recalibrating it for if you have a really heavy load would be better but not necessarily required. How I think about it is it should be about level when under normal weight and the suspension is at steady state (no pre-load and not overloaded). Then if you are overloading it or under-loading it, you are just taking away from the up or down travel but the track bar is still set up for ideal geometry either way. Did that make any sense haha....?
@MichaelKeelphotography
@MichaelKeelphotography Жыл бұрын
@@OverlandEngineer gotcha, thank you. Just curious, because I just set mine up, and it's straight, level. Wasn't sure if this would be a problem, when I load up 220 - 230lbs etc. Do about 2 to 4 offroading trips a year.

So I just got my 4runner lofted, did kings new dobinson uppers and rear springs. The shop adjusted the kings to equal length but when I got it back I had the Toyota lean on it. My question is, should that be normal on a brand new vehicle and new suspension? The shop said they can’t guarantee their work because I went over the one week guarantee. Another shop said it’s normal and I should add a trim packer, any ideas If this is true?
@OverlandEngineer
@OverlandEngineer 11 ай бұрын
Definitely normal, people put in lean spacers. Also some springs are softer than others so my 4Runner will lean in the rear pretty easily depending on the amount of gas in the tank. If you really bothers you maybe setting the kings to be stiff on the side of the lean could help but hard to avoid it

Well done and well explained Zach. I am doing a minimal lift, 1.5-1.6” so will measure the level of my track bar before and after lift, and of course centering of rear axle. In speaking to the manufacturer of a competitor’s well on unit, he says only necessary at 2.4” or more of lift, but will do my measurements. Question: I see two holes on the height the track bar can be bolted in at, what amount of lift is for the lower hole? Thanks again.
@OverlandEngineer
@OverlandEngineer Жыл бұрын
It’s for extended travel minimal lift kits people do. I don’t completely understand it but I think there are aftermarket control arms and other things that people install to get travel but no lift and that helps correct for more travel. I think the lower one is basically for aftermarket suspension that’s less than 2.5” lift
