What I love most about you, Chelsea, is that you pick your produce with so much reverence. I know you love and appreciate your harvest for, of course, the food it provides but also for the beauty it is. And then you pass your joy on to us. Thank you for all you do. ❤️

Here is my corn story….we planted a small amount of corn once just for the fun of it and it grew well. We checked it and decided that the next day would be our big harvest of about 8 ears. We were super excited. The next day we went out and rounded the corner and a raccoon was eating the last ear. He threw it down and ran away fast. We discovered he had picked every ear and taken a bite out of each one and then threw it on the ground. It’s a good thing he ran or I might have forgotten about the possible rabies and choked him . We just thought it was so rude to do that. Another reason that I don’t care for raccoons. I’ll tell you about the raccoons versus our trash cans sometime when the raccoons went to school.

Team canned! My mom would start beans in the morning after she cooked some bacon in her pot. Add onion and cook til translucent then add beans and some water or broth to the bacon, grease and onion. They would be on low all day til just about supper then she added potatoes. Slice up a ripe tomato and homemade bread is all you need. Sometimes left over ham or a big ham hock would be used instead of bacon. The best meal in the world.

There is this awesome local rancher.. every Christmas he gives each of his kids a whole or half beef (depending on what they can store) and he often plays Santa to local families and blesses them with the same.. I love that. My daddy was always known to show up to folks houses with his pickup full of groceries and his overflowing garden vegetables.. I sure miss him 🥺🥺❤️❤️

I'm so jealous. I live in Texas and we've been in an excessive heat warning for at least a week now. At the moment, it's 114 F or 45.56 C. Our dirt is pure red clay. It hasn't rained in over a month. The giant grasshoppers have taken over. I would love to need to wear a hoodie. Can't wait for the tomato video!! It's so hot here that watching other people's yard work and gardening is very relaxing. Thank you!

Your garden with flowers looked especially pretty today - when you got the wagon and went to pull the cabbages. The boquet was really bautiful and those Shasta daisies were giant things of beauty. WOW I kept thinking that if all this color is in your garden, no wonder you love gardening. I began planting flowers in my garden 2 years ago and it changes the 'feeling' that I have while working in it. Have to comment on those hot pads, also. They are just beautiful and adds another thing of beauty into your kitchen, just perfectly. You have a warm and inviting garden, kitchen, and Bunky. So happy for you all.

Have you considered lifting up your pumpkins and pulling something under them, like hay, cardboard, or even pumpkin leaves, so they aren't sitting right on the wet dirt, where bugs and bacteria can attack them, and cause them to rot, just before you want to harvest them?

Amazing harvest. Yes things in the lower mainland are crazy expensive. I can't get out of a grocery store under 175.00 now and that is no meat or veggie as I like the butcher and the local market... Costco for the bulk. Having to share with family is what it is all about. You and your family are very blessed being able to grow your produce and raise your animals with such care and kindness. I am canning a batch of rhubarb strawberry pie filling. First time and it looks incredible with the blush color. Cheers Chelsea.

I love me some canned green beans. We like to add some bacon grease when having for dinner. Cook those beans until the water is almost gone, and you will get a super Southern side dish. In the South, we like them cooked for a long time. Sometimes, I clean my cabbage, wrap the whole head in a paper towel and put it in a zip lock bag, and put them in the refrigerator. They will keep for a long time.

So i went to the store, bought some celery, cut off ghe bottom 2 inches and put it in water. Wow😂😂 its growing. Its to late in the season here in the mountains of Colorado to really grow. But to see those little green leaves to come up. That was awesome. Thank you for showing me how to make some life.🤠

When I need ice water to cool down veggies, etc, I use the ice packs that you use for keeping a cooler cold. They last longer, and can be refrozen, and I don't have an ice maker in my refrigerator, so I'd have to plan ahead and make ice in my counter top ice maker, or buy ice, which seems a big waste.

Then I put young Squash and zucchini rounds and you can also poop what other vegetable you want in it are use water but you could also use chicken stock to start out the cookie with

The beginning of the end of the summer garden is so bittersweet! The tomatoes and green beans are staying productive, but the summer squash and peppers are reaching their end. Consider adding Japanese Black Trifele tomatoes to your garden. They are a paste shape and heaviest producer I have grown. They are an 80 day grower. Their flavor is so dense and rich of heirloom variety. A few years back my dad and I were making Indian relish which requires 2 qt of ground green tomatoes per batch. I had 6 JBT tomato plants that year, out of those 6 plants we had enough green tomatoes to make 3 batches of drained green tomatoes! There is so much meat to them, and little seeds. I have found them on Amazon as the easiest vendor.

But i also like them canned, the beanwater i drink and i also like how quick the canned beans are just heated up (essentially i fry some bacon and onions and just throw the canned beans on top, let it heat through, done) edit: oh, and DillyBeans, or ready made beansalad, that i also like canned.

Glad you are keeping an open mind with the canned green beans! I wonder, though, if your using a large amount of salt in the jars might be changing the taste profile of the beans you can? The frozen beans are not salted, where as when putting salt in your jars, it seems a lot, even for kosher salt or flaky canning salt. Try measuring no more than a scant teaspoon of canning salt into your jars. I’ve been canning green beans for 50 years and typically only use 1/2 teaspoon of salt per jar. I am wondering if the seemingly large quantity of salt may be overpowering the bean flavor, which can be subtle. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing your life on your ranch with us. We do enjoy it so.❤

Did you know every test of flavor/sweetness on tomatoes shows if they blush on the vine they will ripen with same flavor as if stayed on vine entire time. the only tomatoes that have less is when picked before they blush completely green. that's what university tests show anyhow. leaving on vine after they blush has no flavor /sweetness impact. I pull mine when they blush so squirls can not take them and they can not split if rains, they taste just as good .

Greetings.. at the end of harvest and you have green tomatoes left.. try storing them in a black tote lined with layers of straw and newspaper.. the climate of your root cellar should have you getting your own ripe tomatoes for Thanksgiving..😎

Hey Chelsea, great news getting a new queen, Winston is a great guy who gives great customer service. I have been growing Manitoba bush for the past four years and have finally given up on them, so I will look forward to seeing what other tomatoes you grow. I found the Manitoba’s split or had split lines all over them. So time to change, great video as usual. Take care 🌷🇨🇦

I have always loved home canned green beans. I have never canned yellow beans since they have a different flavor to my palate. I remember my grandmother canning them just by water bathing her green beans for hours. Yes I know that is not an accepted way to can green beans and I follow accepted procedures. All I know is that we never got sick, and they tasted great. Things were different 50 years ago. Our climate and pollution levels have changed immensely. I just raw pack green beans with salt. Nothing else.

One of the best soups ever you can make is cucumber or pickles and tomatoes... Melt butter, add unions, then sliced cucumbers and tomatoes. Broth and peper and salt. When soft, mix it. So good! You can add some cream if to make it even better

Love canned green beans. We chop up bacon and onions and cook until bacon is crisp and onions are transparent. Then add your green beans and slowly cook they are delicious.

I prefer canned green beans. My mother grew up with them and I did too. I love them cooked/warmed with onions and bacon.

You might want to try stinging nettle tincture and wrap your wrist with a tincture wet towel or cloth at night when you sleep for a few days, cover the wet cloth with a wrap used for sprains, heals up pretty quickly
