My review for Wicked Part 1 where I rejoice in the visual and audio joys provided by Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo and then get sad that the rest of the cast doesn't match their performance.

As someone who had trepidations about each act being it’s own movie, I honestly had the exact opposite takeaway- I’m VERY glad this was split into two, for multiple reasons. One is that the delineation between Acts 1 and 2 of Wicked in terms of plot and tone is super clear, and I’ve always felt the stage show was actually a bit rushed. I’m glad that both acts are being given the space to play out as complete narratives that don’t feel like they’re sprinting to the finish. But more than that, walking out of the theater I honestly had the thought that this Part 1/Act 1 really works as its own tragic story in a vacuum. At least emotionally, if not structurally. Sure there’s still some loose character stuff to be paid off, but I think with the way this movie starts and ends, a viewer can fill in enough blanks that it works on a completely different tragic level than it does with the context of part two.

Finding out how absolutely loaded and inventively insane Act 2 gets. It makes sense to split it and make the distinction between the two halves more evident. Especially as it jumps right into the beginning of The Wizard Of Oz, remixed for this particular story's first act in mind now.

“off Broadway” technically means the production is still in the theatre district of NYC but in a smaller 100-500 seat capacity theater. Not directly on Broadway in one of the major theaters. When they go to other major cities, they’re referenced as “touring Broadway shows”.

Really sincerely glad to see you're back! I discovered your channel few years ago and I've been watching a lot of your movie critics. Most KZbinrs I've seen doing this are like "that's bad lol", but you're way smarter and it shows. You always give explanations and perfect arguments that totally make sense (to me anyway), and as all your critics are justified, it's a lot more enjoyable to watch and to listen to. You don't need staging and caricatures with actors and costumes like others do, just you talking is enough to be very interesting and entertaining. So, I'm truly sincerely glad you're back and I'm totally convinced you deserve a lot more subscribers, like 100 times more would start to feel right for the quality of your content and analysis and also for all those years you've been making videos, never giving up despite some low views count at the beginning of your channel. Maybe you don't have 4 millions subscribers but that doesn't mean that you don't deserve as much gratitude as the most known youtubers. And from a movie lover like me, rest assured that I deeply cherish your videos, a lot more that I could ever like any Mr Beast video or anybody else's entertainment video that try to captivate young audiences by complying to KZbin algorithm. Be sure that what you do is greatly appreciated! Thank you (A LOT) for all your work and all your videos! You and your family, stay safe and cheers from France!

@Mat_1000 3 күн бұрын
@@Alachia Unfortunately, I tried to click 10000 times on the "subscribe" button but after a week and 2 finger replacements, that still made only 1 subscription -_- Joke aside, you don't have to thank me for anything as I was truly sincere and therefore, it required no efforts from me to tell you how much I appreciate and cherish your videos! You're so very much welcome! Your movie (and TV show) critics and analysis always captivate me. I often feel that I liked or disliked a movie for some reasons, only having some pieces of the puzzle to explain why, but you always seem to get the whole picture and put exact words on my scrambled thoughts. That's one of the reasons why I enjoy your videos that much, as I said previously, because your arguments and explanations make perfect sense to me. Also, I grew up in the 80s, I had friends from all sorts of origins and backgrounds, I never cared there were arab or asian, poor or with a disability, I didn't even see any of this, I only saw people and I just got along (and still do) with people as long as they're nice people. I always thought that when I would be an adult, we'd all be educated enough to understand there are no races but only the human race, that no matter what condition someone can have, it's a human being on top of anything else and we shouldn't put anything in the way. And well... I don't know where in the process from the 80s to now, but we got really f**ked big time!! When I see where we are now, it honestly heavily weights on my shoulders. I'm often uncomfortable talking about these subjects of diversity because no matter how I put it, I feel like it's going to get out of my mouth in a twisted way and that it'll end up awkward. But when I hear you talk about these topics, what a relief for me! I feel like "this!! this!! this is exactly what I think but I never could have formulated it in such an awesome way!". That feels really good, especially in those times where the majority would discard a whole movie or message without any other type of argument than "it's woke! Go woke go broke! lol". I despise that so much but thanks to you, I can feel relief, because you seem to be like a preserved bubble of my idea of those times and thoughts when we all wanted to have our best lives all together. And so, you relieve me from some the weight I have on my shoulders. I'm so sorry for the long essay (I'm rarely good at making it short) but I see that you are passionate about cinema and tv shows, I see that you're way smarter than the bulk, that you have a keen eye on many subjects, and for all these reasons plus the reasons I mentioned above, I can only thank you deeply for all the time and effort you spend making your videos just for us to enjoy. You can't even imagine how great of a gift you give us every time you publish a new video. But I don't mean to put any pressure on your shoulders here, it's ok if sometimes you have to disappear for many months, I understand you have a life, a husband, a family, friends and probably a lot of things to deal with and you can be sure that from my side, I'll always understand that KZbin isn't your whole life, and you don't have to feel like you let us down if you need to go away for ANY reason. Sincerely thank you! You and your family, please stay safe! Cheers from France! PS: And in the video about Snow-white and the seven dwarfs, you mentioned someone calling you "ch*nk" at the supermarket. Honestly, it's sad that this still exists in our time and I'm truly sorry you have to go through this kind of bullying. They're so stupid they can't even understand how stupid they are. They only wish they would be 1/10th as cool as you when you do your double gun "pew" at the end of your videos :D So cool!!

Great review. Glad you enjoyed it. Generally, I think Peter Dinklage has the right of it. People with dwarfism shouldn't be forced to play only one type of role and there has been too much of that in Hollywood. A lot of things done in this movie couldn't be replicated on stage or at least they never have been. We also got to experience Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth sing One Short Day which is not to be missed. There'd probably be lots of people complaining if they cut any songs from the Broadway show.

The entire broadway musical is less time the entirety of part 1. I definitely think it would have been possible to do the whole thing in 3hr 20. Splitting it into two ensured WB had two blockbuster movies.

Absolutely, Act 2 is a bit of a rushed mess (I say with utmost love and appreciation) so there’s no way they could have crammed everything into 1 movie and done the story justice. I loved the way the story was able to breathe in Part 1!
@johnrigs6540
@johnrigs6540 6 күн бұрын
@@runthejulies Yea we’ve seen the show on Broadway and you are right - After intermission the storyline definitely felt very rushed and even a little sloppy compared to the carefully crafted first Act. And even the songs were nowhere near as good or memorable as those in the first half. Only two are regularly played on my kids Spotify - No Good Deed and For Good. I heard they’ve added a couple of new songs and really fleshed out the second half so I bet that’s really going to greatly improve on the entire story. Especially when they inevitably join them together in one giant epic when it heads to streaming!

If they would have put both acts in one film, I think it would be 5 hours long. 😂 There were fleshed out scenes and the songs were longer in the film than the musical. We all know it was split into 2 parts because... MONEY. But it remains putting both acts in one flick would've been way too long.

I recently saw the movie with my gal and it was a good time but should it have been one movie hmm maybe probably, but a big problem i had with the movie is Ariana grande and cynthia erivo were singing and acting WAY better than the rest of the cast. Also most the male cast were weak singers and joeff goldblum was just acting like himself in a mcu movie instead of The Wizard. Overall the movie does feel bloated but its a good first watch though part 2 has alot to live up to

First off, thank you for coming back. I have always liked hearing your perspective on different films. I haven't seen this yet, perhaps tomorrow as the harshness of the weather clears up a bit. I had never seen the stage play but knew of the story. And yes, from what I've heard, this could have been one film. You kind of get that from the trailers which is what sold me on wanting to see this. I don't know how true this is, but I've heard that Part 2, though respectful of the stage play, is going to pull more in from the book which is crazy dark. Both parts were filmed together, so at least the continuity of it all won't be lost. But I would have preferred Part 2 coming out in February instead of Thanksgiving next year. Awesome review. Yes, Defying Gravity is going to be the big blow out song in this from the bits I had heard. Still looking forward to this☺

Not only do they not tell you that this is just part 1, they don't even show that it's a musical. My favorite prequel that focuses on the villain of a previous movie is X-Men First Class. The parts of the movie about Eric in the camp, then going after war criminals after the war was mesmerizing. I would have loved an entire movie that just focused on that part of his life.

I did not like this movie. But I didn't hate it either. It has strong female appeal in the vain of Frozen or Barbie. My biggest gripe was the music. Songs like "My Shot", "Ease on Down the Road", "Friend Like Me", or "Circle of Life" blow away "The Wizard and I" & "Popular". I was not touched by "Defying Gravity" like Alachia. Like Frozen and Barbie, it will be successful. Plenty of women will flock to the theater. It's well directed. Good production design. Good cinematography. Poor color grading. Muted colors lacked the HDR "pop" in Dolby Cinema. But overall, well made. For reference, I've seen seven Broadway musicals in the theater including Hamilton, The Wiz (1975), Les Misérables, Aladdin, The Lion King and Miss Saigon. 7/10
