i never realized how sad that moment in the restaurant is. Dani being told that the kids she loved don't remember her and that they shouldn't be reminded mirrors the same feelings of abandonment that Viola felt when she was forgotten after her death and then the chest thrown in the lake. and you can see during that entire conversation the sadness in Dani's face like she feels Viola's pain inside of her hearing that. she wants to be remembered so that she doesn’t fade, but since she’s being forgotten she’s fading and Viola is starting to be all that’s left. it’s really heartbreaking

you asked why the Lady was going backwards dragging Dani. She walks a predetermined path that's always the same. She was going toward the house when she grabbed Dani. She was heading back to the lake when she grabbed Peter. Now that Jamie has told the story to Flora and everyone else maybe Dani's memory won't fade for awhile longer.

Actually, she wasn't heading back yet, she had just got in that floor and he was in her way to the room. She grabed him, went to the room (and this is the part where his spirit shows up and confuses everyone) and came back dragging his body down the stairs, then heading back to the lake.

Dani was the host for viola, her rage is what kept everything down in her gravity, but Dani and her love was stronger than viola and her rage, as she would never take anyone again. The first thing to fade in Dani as the lady in the lake would be viola, letting the anger go, Dani would be free to be with the woman she loved, which is why Dani is able to be there with Jamie.
