Dandadan often features parodies and short jokes based on Japanese music and TV commercials from the 80s and 90s. Ken Takakura is a famous actor, and the song Okarun was singing in the tunnel was "TOO SHY SHY BOY!" by singer Arisa Mizuki. This anime will tickle the hearts of those who grew up in the 80s and 90s!

Dandadan is basically everything together, just like Kobi said... Tbh it's the best thing I've read these last few years, seriously. And the anime adaptation is just stellar.

4:01 "Her makeup is wild!" Yes, that was the "Kuro-Gyaru" (black gal) phase of "Gyaru" that was popular among Japanese high school girls in the 90s😆This evolved into the term "Yamanba-Gyaru (A monster that appears in a Japanese folk tale, an old woman who was abandoned in the mountains in a poor rural village to reduce the number of mouths to feed)" or "Ogyaru (a girl who prioritizes playing time over bath time)" 😅 By the way, gals like Momo are called "Shiro-Gyaru (white gals)."🤭

5:08 In the 1990s when this song "TOO SHY SHY BOY!" was released, almost all of the J-POP songs on the charts were produced by the song's producer, Tetsuya Komuro. The total sales of CDs produced by Tetsuya Komuro, which have spread not only to Japan but also to neighboring Asian countries, exceeded 170 million copies as of November 2008. This is the highest record for a Japanese musician.😵 This song sold over 360,000 copies in total, becoming Mizuki's biggest hit. Arisa Mizuki was 16 years old at the time. When he made his major debut the previous year, he was only 15 years old, but he attracted attention for his tall height of 170cm and his small face, which made his head-to-body ratio unusual for a Japanese person.

For those interested, the girl with the "crazy makeup" is a "Ganguro". It's a popular style in Japan.

Season 1 of Dandadan was perfect❤This anime sometimes contains terms and homages that only Japanese people or people familiar with Japan can understand. For example, Takakura Ken is a very famous Japanese actor. If you have any questions, please research them yourself or ask for opinions in the comments section.

Turbo Granny is an urban legend about an old woman who drives on highways and in tunnels at speeds of 100 to 140 kilometers per hour.

9:28 I think the design of this "real Serpo alien" is based on the villain "Mefilas alien" from the 1970s Japanese special effects hero drama "Ultra Seven" 🧐 The homage to Ultra Seven is also strongly expressed in the opening of Dandadan.😌

2:02 Ask him what magazine he is reading. This magazine is "Monthly MU", which has been published since the 70s and covers all kinds of occult topics around the world, such as ghosts, unidentified flying objects, unidentified creatures, prophecies, etc. 👽👻🛸😆 In the current work, it has been changed to "Monthly Poh" 😅The original "Mu" is, of course, taken from "The Lost Continent of Mu". 🤭

I know it's a little late to say this, but "Teiji" is pronounced the same as the Japanese words "定時" (fixed time) or "提示" (presentation) and "丁字" (T-junction).🤭

@@jutsumaniac4569 If it causes people to misunderstand the dialog, then yes, it's pretty bad. The scene where Momo meets Okarun is a good example of this. The guys here (and many, MANY other reactors) thought that Momo's comment of "lame" was directed at Okarun and the magazine he was reading, but it's clear in the manga and the dub that she is actually talking about the bullies (The line in the dub is changed to "Buncha losers!") and there are at least five more examples I can think of in upcoming episodes where similar mistakes happen that make the translation confusing and take the viewer out of the action because they need to try and work out what is ACTUALLY being said. The one I just mentioned is probably the most frustrating one though, because it causes people to massively misunderstand Momo's character when they think she's being derisive to Okarun instead of his bullies.
