I think it's just he freezai was playing a more meta team, so therefore some stuff would be counted by the anti-meta techs of the opponent. This isn't like the double kick Terrakion senario.

I gotta agree with dancing llama here. Thats just how a meta works. Initally something strong gets discovered and used because its strong, in this case that would for example be primal groudon. Because of its popularity, counters to the initial meta get discovered, in this case, air lock surf rayquaza , or something like earthquake primal kyogre (and yes this is actually something people sometimes run, because of kyogres 150 base attack and groudons new ground weakness). This is especially true in ubers, where banning something is very rare.

Situations like these is why I like taunt+magic coat on deoxys-s. If you suspect they have mental herb, magic coat still covers most options. If you are lucky, they try to taunt you and you reflect it, so if they have the herb, it gets used for free.
