My mother passed away just five days ago. I found out via phone call with my step-father. I had just been with her two hours prior. I had hugged her, told her I loved her, and headed to my college campus, completely unaware that was the last time I would ever see her alive. All I can say at this point is that life goes on and my world and its struggles are wholly different from another's- something I find somewhat beautiful. No matter how absolutely devastating my life may be, people still laugh, people still smile, people still live, perhaps entirely unaware of the acute pain I experience. I have found comfort and solace in this idea. As well, I've acquired a newly-compounded sense of consideration for others. I can never know what others are experiencing, so I tread lightly, keeping in mind the pain I go through now and the potential pain another may be going through that I could never truly know. Life is so strange and beautiful. Hug each other, love each other. We can never really be sure what may happen next.

I have anxiety disorder - I'm also highly sensitive to things. It sucks. But I often reach a place of absurdity. Where I feel so much of everything else that I cease to matter. Change will come as change does. Nothing is immune to change. I had depression for many years and after each hardship, loss or death, I allowed myself a little time to wallow in the adversity. Then the inevitable happens again - change. Nothing can last forever in a lifetime of change. Even suffering is tempered by change. Joy is a moment of not-sadness. Change can only free you from the present Now. ❤

@@thederpydude2088 😄 i think it means more like, in the end (your end) you will be in a place where you are at peace. No worries, no guilt, no anything. Anxiety and fear of bad situations, loses, or unpleasant outcomes that haven't happened yet, or might not happen, is perhaps one of the most ridiculous and potentially destructive irrational humans experience. We will die. We know this. One day we won't be here and the process of dying may not be pleasant or fast, for us. Life is finite. Every moment of that life we spend worrying about what hasn't happened yet is pointless. I know that death will have its day, but it's not this day, and I won't overpay Death for what it doesn't own.

That your emotions thoughts and feelings are meaningless because you are intrinsically an eternal part of the all, and yet you and they are so meaningful, because you are creating and experiencing the expansion of the universe and conscious eternal love, life, itself. In addition to controlling the way we interpret and respond to our experience, we can also control what we pay attention to. This is huge but we usually act like robots on autopilot. Those are the only 3 things we can control but we have to do it on purpose in order to make use of this purpose - Free will is an action. If you aren't really present, you have effectively no free will. I like the concept of anti-fragility or actually profiting from untoward events as opposed to resilience and robustness. Nice graphics.

Action cures fear, I have lived by this maxim and it has changed my life of worrying.
@joseoncrack
@joseoncrack 4 ай бұрын
That's right. The initial parts of worrying are actually important. That's what motivates you to take action on some particular problem you're dealing with. But if you let the worrying phase linger without taking action, then that's when, first, it becomes very uncomfortable and second, it ends up paralyzing you. The nasty feeling that comes with worrying is made for us to want to take action as soon as possible, to get out of it. Oddly enough, we seem to have evolved in ways that make the "worry" feeling less potent as an action-trigger, changing it into this kind of chronic discomfort which seems to just feed itself. This evolution probably stems from too much comfort that we've gained over time. In other words, the more comfortable our lives become and the more our worrying becomes this chronic, lowish-intensity feeling that triggers no action whatsoever, instead of being this short-term motivator.

Hi Robert! Amazing video as always! I was wondering if I could give you a suggestion. I have a friend who introduced me to your channel (she's been a subscriber for almost four years now) and she's been interested in Philosophy her whole life. She hasn't taken classes or gone to college to study because she is deaf, and unfortunately, the places she could go to attend classes have a huge delay in providing a sign language interpreter. Because of that, she relies on KZbin and books to satisfy her curiosity for knowledge and keep learning. That's why I was wondering if you could provide subtitles for your videos (because the KZbin-generated ones are quite difficult for her to understand most of the time). You could even have them on your website. Please don't take this the wrong way; it's just an idea. Once again, we thank you for your videos and the quality of your content! I hope you have an amazing weekend!

I was in a terrible car wreck 30+ years ago that left me disabled, and homeless. My life has been fear and fright since. Homelessness is near again, I'm destitute, and old. I watch wildlife run in fear as their habitats disappear, I watch as pets are set free or sent to shelters as their owners become homeless or die, I watch the oceans and their habitats decay, ... I was secure at one time, but broken promises, theft, and lies took everything from me. All life suffers like tears in the rain.

Wow. I always pucture that scene, when I think of life's suffering. Seemingly, my life seems to be punishment for others sins. Whether it be a family member, significant other or co-worker. My own sins, failure, or regret never seems to weigh in tandem. That's where my anger and rage comes from. I'm wrapping my arms around you, and holding your hand. You are not alone. I see you and heard you. Thank you for sharing courageously your thoughts. I wish I could offer you a guarantee or suggestion that would protect you. This Sunday, Christians will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. That He was raised from the dead means that for believers, as Dietrich Bonhoeffer said just before he was hanged, "For me, real life is about to begin."

But plenty of people were convicted or acquitted before they understood how to use DNA evidence. One thing which is hard to argue with is the behavior of the disciples, and hundreds if not thousands of other disciples whose names we do not know. They certainly believed that Jesus had been resurrected. They were glad to die martyrs' deaths because they did believe it.

So intellectually I may hear wise words or good advice, however it doesn’t filter through to me whilst depressed, it’s understood but not felt. Feeling something so it really hits is different then just hearing wise words. It’s a knowing of the words that matters, it’s also an acceptance of self that I’m looking for too

So be like a Jedi, and travel through life with no attachments. Ride your canoe on the river of life, do your best to avoid the rocks, and appreciate the scenery as you flow down-river. Most of all, don't think about the waterfall at the end of your journey. You're not there yet, so worrying about the eventual end just casts a shadow over the brightness you currently enjoy.

I think an underrated response to anxiety, is the act of courage as delineated in “Courage to Be”, a short book by the German existentialist theologian, Paul Tillich. Stoicism tells us to, essentially, have faith in the “laws of nature”. Tillich would say to summon courage in the face of meaninglessness. Nietzsche’s message was the same, “He has heart who knows fear, but vanquishes it; who sees the abyss, but with pride. He who sees the abyss, but with eagle's eyes,- he who with eagle's talons grasps the abyss: he has courage.”.
