Angie Hot & Flashy did a ph test on many vitamin C products. Skin Ceutical is the original but it oxidizes immediately which lessens the efficacy & is ridiculously $$$, the ingredients aren’t expensive. Her ph test proves that one is NOT the best. Timeless tested great, is much better price, and mine gets used up before it oxidizes. Great video, love your knowledge.

I was using Timless 20% - no irritation but i did find that even in the 1 oz bottles, & using it every day, it was oxidizing way too fast… and I wasn’t sure the results were there that I was expecting anymore.. During the black friday sales, I picked up the Dear Lucy product with THD in it- it was one of the recs you had mentioned in a video.. I love that SO much! What a beautiful light creamy product that melts right into the skin. I already picked up another bottle because I wanted a back up. It’s made in Canada and I’m concerned about how much the tariffs are going to affect things like that in the near future. TY so much!

I wish I had stuck to Elizabeth Arden`s vitamin C and ceramides capsules. They had a good formula all along and with a stable version of the vitamin It is sometimes on special offer too. Vitamin C have been given lots of attention through impressive before and after pictures, mostly l-ascorbic, but even with simple DIY serums. I wish there were more amateur feedback of these products, it would be interesting to see how they perform for people under real life conditions.

I recently went to an Ascorbic acid (no L?), feruluc acid serum with hyaluronic acid, aloe, niacinamide, retinol, and, most bizarrely, synthetic jojoba oil. So far, it seems to be working well, because my minimal hyperpigmentation is reduced, and even the pink on the scar I acquired during late summer has faded. It's Ragkun brand, which I searched for more information on, but came up empty. I'm assuming they're from China, like virtually every other company. They do have other products. I found them on Amazon. Quite inexpensive. This also has a pump, which is probably the best way to dispense the product.

Penn, I’m curious why so few people talk about mixing plain L-ascorbic acid powder into a serum (or just mixing it with water) in your hand each day? Obviously this isn’t a good solution for folks who are sensitive to ascorbic acid, but for those whose skin can handle it, it’s a dirt cheap way to get vitamin C into your daily skincare. It’s available both as a powder meant to be taken internally and as slightly more expensive/more fancy versions that are sold as “cosmetic” versions, which as far as I can tell just means they’re more finely ground powders so they dissolve more easily and are meant for exactly this purpose. It’s very stable in its dry form, you can customize the percentage you use, and even the relatively small amount you get in the cosmetic versions will provide you with vitamin C for an extremely long time. Is there something I’m missing? Does it not actually work when used this way?
@db-gb5xi13 сағат бұрын
I've seen a couple derms give thumbs down to that and also Lab Muffin.

I have been using some form of Vit C for over 8 years. I cannot say that it has "blown my mind" with its efficacy. It's benefits are SUBTLE. I still have PIGMENTATION ISSUES and rarely go outside in the Sun...and I never go out in the Sun without Sunscreen. I understand what Penny is saying about irritation being a problem. I used to use the Vit C Suspension from The Ordinary but it did sting some. Not unbearable. Just uncomfortable. I still use Vit C. Now I use a much more COMFORTABLE form called ASCORBYL TETROISOPALMITATE SOLUTION in VIT F ...also from The Ordinary. LOVE IT! I can even apply it over a tiny scratch or shaved chin...and it DOES NOT STING AT ALL. I have aged skin. This product's base is oil...so my face feels and looks moisturized. I do follow up with moisturizer after it absorbs into my skin. It takes about 15 mts to absorb. The price for one bottle which lasts me 3-4 months...is about 20 bucks. Nothing will likely be cheaper than that.

Hi Penn, thank you for this video. I have dry sensitive skin. Have never used Vitamin C -would like to try. My question is about SPF. I don’t wear it as often as I should- my bad. Is it safe to use Vitamin C without SPF? Is there a stronger chance of sun damage by wearing it alone? Also, I did purchase the Photozyme DNA Youth Recovery. Should I apply that first after cleansing? Or the Vitamin C first? My New Year’s resolution is to get serious about my skincare 😉

@oliversmom12 сағат бұрын
@@saskia.... my dark spots have actually started to fade, but I use it with Allies' Tranexamic serum so I don't know if it's solely due to their Vit C. He did say that you should spray a hydrating mist first, or use it on damp skin to make it easier to apply because it's waterless so it doesn't degrade like most other Vit C serums. I also use their retnol so maybe altogether they're working to improve my skin.
@hannan578110 сағат бұрын
I have tried all the vitamin c serums mentioned in this video except the Photozyme one. I will have to try it! All the others irritated my skin and caused instant breakout. However, I found a holy grail vitamin c product that doesn’t irritate my skin. It’s so strange, though, because you mentioned that it’s likely the l-ascorbic acid that is irritating. The product I like contains ascorbic acid (without the L). The ascorbic acid crystals come in a tiny pouch and you mix it with a solution that has salicylic acid, kojic acid, arbutin, and other ingredients. After mixing vigorously, you dump the liquid over face pads. These must be used within three months. I hesitate to recommend this product because it is incredibly expensive (approx $200 for 60 pads). It’s called koji plus pads from derm spa. I believe Dr. Nayak, a plastic surgeon, created them? I originally saw them on his channel. I haven’t found anything like it. The price is crazy, but it’s the only vitamin c that hasn’t irritated my skin and with the other ingredients keeps my melasma away.

You're going to have to use a product with more tyrosinase inhibitors like kojic acid, tranexamic acid, arbutin, licorice root, etc. You could also check out Eucerin's Anti-Pigment line of products with the patented thiamidol ingredient. Vitamin c did nothing at all for my pigmentation. I used the timeless one for a couple of years and did not notice any difference at all.

Can vitamin c be used after microneedling? Also, have you heard of an in office procedure called Moxy? I’m wondering if it is worth it.

I don’t wash my face in the morning. I use tret at night. There’s no place for me to add it 😔

You’d be totally fine to use c in the morning! Obviously just watch for irritation but it would be technically fine ⭐️

Have you tried SAP? It *may* work for you! But I get it if it’s just not worth the experiment 🧡

Should vitaminC be used twice a day?

Use it in the am and use a vitamin d (some type of retinol) in its place in the evening. ❤
