My dog(brother) Rocky when we lived in NY use to walk himself. We lived on the 3rd floor and we let him down the steps to go outside Then he'd wait on the other side of the building scratching til someone opened the door. Because ppl were familiar with him they'd press the floor button of the elevator and he knew what floor was his by the scent. That was back when good people and trusting neighbors actually genuinely cared and looked out for one another. He was the most awesome childhood dog. God bless you Rocky,we miss you (RIP)😘🐕

Great story about Rocky, reminds me of my own dog Jerry, sheepdog-cross, who used to take himself for his own walks when he wanted. We live in the country and I taught him road-sense at a young age, he would pretty much go down the road, watch the sheep for a bit and come back when he got bored. He's passed away now at the ripe ol' age of 16, miss him dearly but they're pretty independent once you teach them the rules.

Back in the early 70's, in Amsterdam Holland, there was a very large male Bouvier des Flanders that would board a tram outside the main train station. It never bothered anyone and no one ever bothered him. The conductor as well as the Machinist also allowed the dog to go about his way undisturbed. He would ride the tram for a considerable distance and disembark at the same location daily. It was a total understanding between dog and man, just incredible !

When I was a young child my grandparents had a black Labrador called Sammy he would leave the house every day down the drive, look both ways before crossing the road on his own then come back the same time everyday unless the dog catchers grabbed him. He would protect me from the neighbors aggressive Staffy. I would come downstairs at 4/5 am if my grandad wasn't weak in his chair, id go under the table and curl up with the dog and sleep with him 😆😆 i miss that dog he was a true companion

He even wakes me up on weekends exactly at the time I usually get up when he thinks I'm going to miss getting up for work. Many years ago I was living with my future ex-wife (😏) in an apartment complex with 3 story buildings. Our dog was well known and well liked in the neighborhood (he was a spaniel mixed breed) and we would often let him out in the late afternoon and he'd sit on the sidewalk and greet people as they got home from work. Then it advanced to where we'd let him out and he'd go to different neighbor's doors and scratch on their door. They would let him in, give him a treat and he would hang out for awhile before leaving to go visit someone else. From talking to the different neighbors we figured out that he had at least a half dozen neighbors he visited regularly. Rambling...but this story reminded me of something Jordan (the dog's name) would have done.

A cop in my condo complex has a retired German Shepherd K9 officer as his roommate. The dog is let out evening to come visit us dog lovers, scratches the door, we let him in to hang out then he scratches again when we've nothing more to say & goes onto the next unit.

When I was a child my neighbour had a dog called Whisky who would go on his travels, he'd been shot a bunch of times by a pellet gun (for what I can't remember but not by his owner) earlier in his life and run over about 3 times. I followed him one day. He'd scale their 8 foot wall by running up it, then he'd stand on it barking like some kind of rooster dog. After he'd had a good little bark he walked down the road, past the park and stopped at the traffic lights. I believe he'd learned crossing by himself had consequences. When a man came along he watched him intently, and when the man crossed, he crossed with him, stopping when the man stopped, then continuing with him until he was across. He walked to our local butchers and sat patiently outside, off the sidewalk where he didn't get in anybodies way. After 20 or 30 minutes, the butcher came out with a huge freshly cut bone and gave it to Whisky. He then returned home, repeating his routine, climbed back over the wall, and no doubt enjoyed the rest of his day. I noticed him visiting the butcher countless times after that. He was a special kind of dog, very intelligent and so friendly. Makes you wonder who would ever want to shoot at him the poor boy.. But he lived a very long and happy life besides his battle scars.

She rides the same time every day, that means same bus driver, same riders...she is with friends the whole time! Seattle buses are on regular routes, each route has 3-5 drivers so you can catch one every 15 minutes or so. Wait long enough and 'your' driver will come by again! Drivers brief each other at the end of shift, so drivers on the route would all know about the dog.

Eclipse is a celebrity in Seattle. The transit authority even used her in some of the commercials. For the people who are worried about her safety; 1. Everybody that ride the bus are regulars (they won't anything happens to her); 2. The drivers know her and will defend her like the other passengers (she has her bus pass. so she's a paying customer); 3. She's a tourist attraction. People from around the world come to Seattle to see "the bus-riding dog". She's so protected by everyone that knows her that they do anything to stop any harm to her. Let me bring a bit of reality into this. First off, great story and great dog. But I worry about the dog around irresponsible and unscrupulous humans. Too many people don't know to leave strange dogs alone or don't teach their children not to try and play with strange dogs. What about misfit children ? Someone might do sth to make this dog feel threatened. And I hate stories about dogs being put down because sb made the dog feel threatened. Owners should be with their dogs in public for a very good reason.

In the case of this dog the driver and the owner which I am sure did an agreement about the matter because this is to be shown publicly in you tube. All are planned apparently. Is there a stupid driver who will let a dog ride his bus unsupervised ?🤔 Anywhere in the world dogs must be in the cage if the owner wishes to bring their dog riding a bus or metro but with the Exception of Service DOG. I live in a neighborhood that’s a 1 mile loop with basically nothing else around. When I was little there was a dog in our neighborhood who would take herself for a walk everyday. There was a dog door in the fence around her house and she would head out once a day to walk the loop unattended. Her harness had a message on the side that essentially said that as long as she’s in our neighborhood, she knows what she’s doing so just let her do her thing. Clever doggie! I heard a similar story some years back. Where the London tube trains come out into the open, there were pigeons who waited for the doors to open, then went on several stops into town. They knew exactly where to get off! Later in the day they did the opposite journey to get home. All these creatures have more intelligence than we give them credit for.

He says, he's a big boy. This is really sweet and the dog is incredibly smart. He knows which stops whereas I get confused with left and right. Used to have a pug I would often take on walks to a small neighborhood grocery. The store was about a mile away from our house and the Korean family that owned it adored her and always made a big fuss over her when we came, giving her scratches and treats. She was nearly 10 years old and blind in both eyes. She did very well getting around for having no sight and while walking would take verbal cues where I'd say "up, up or down, down" when coming to steps etc. She was always kind of my personal shadow but after losing her sight to cataracts it became very rare that she was not as close to me as possible at all times, and would stay right with me whether inside or out regardless of never having a leash on. One day I let her out to potty and she just.... disappeared while I stepped away from the door to take dinner out of the oven. I was freaking out and looking for her all over the neighborhood, never did find her, and went to bed brokenhearted. The next morning Mrs. Shin was waiting for me at my place of employment with my very content pug. The reason I hadn't found her is she didn't go through the neighborhood, she went down a fairly steep gully behind the addition and then through some woods, found the only gate that passes through to a shopping center, and then went up the road 2 blocks across a busy parking lot and up a set of steps to visit Mrs. Shin's children at the store using the same route we had taken in the past lol. Since the Shins had no idea which house was mine they didn't know what to do with her but let her spend the night with the kids and return her the next day. We were all pretty amazed that she decided to go solo on this road trip, being blind, but I realized how much she liked the kids and that it had been a while since I had taken her due to working lots of overtime recently. I made sure that she got to see them often after that :)
