Hey Alan, Loving the content mate. Been starting to really get into fishing and was wondering how you decide on size of jig /soft plastic for different fish? I purchased a few different size jigheads 3.5g, 5g, 7g, 10g, and 14g sizes and just am a little confused on what would be suitable to use for different fish and what type of soft plastics would suitable for each size

With experience you really start to fine tune and get really intuitive on the fly with this sort of stuff. Most of the decision making comes down to the water depth, the current strength, the target species and the plastic your likely to throw. In many areas I fish that simply might be a 1/8 weight with a 2-0 hook gauge which works amazing in now tidal waters sub 6 meters deep for pinkies, flathead etc. Then just working your way up or down the scaler depending on those 4 factors I said earlier.

Hey Alan, what would you recommend for the jigging technique of these plastics. How long would you let these plastics pause?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 9 ай бұрын
All depends on the water depth, but i like to work them nice and slow. Pauses as long as 20 seconds.

Pretty much a beginner with soft and hard body lures, been watching all your videos lately and really appreciate the effort and explanations you put in and your specific targeting videos (Bream targeting has definitely been helpful). I started getting into fishing only a few months ago and specifically do it when i go up to my folks house on the sunny coast. Have caught a few big bream (Bait) and a couple of large flathead (SwimZ lure) out the back on their jetty in mooloolah river estuaries and the plan is to go out there with their hobie kayaks every day over xmas and try a bunch of spots i think might be good. Plenty of jetties, bridges and rock walls around to hit where as in previous attempts i had no idea where to target.

Its a berkley retractable net. They are fantastic. Fold up between uses and hooks rarely get stuck

I stayed in Altona for 2 months around Christmas last year. Never got around to fishing though. When the tied was out I could walk nearly out to the end of the pier...well what was left of it at the time anyways.

Yeah its great there in the shallows, heaps of rocks and small rock pools and heaps of fish. Even the flounder come in big numbers there in evenings

Good stuff, Alan. 👍 You can also try some metal lures on the Salmon, they like anything shiny...
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 9 ай бұрын
Yeah 100% agree, the small metals were dynamite on the salmon last year. I just bought some glowbite metals which look perfect for the area so ill give them a crack in the shallows very soon.

It looks like a lake there, that's amazing. That's Altona? Could a tinnie be on that water? Would love to just get out there, maybe even hit up a snorkel!
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 9 ай бұрын
Yeah 100% tinnie could fish there easily. Just launch from Altona boat ramp and stick in the shallows. ideally a notherly breeze which is nice and flat
