Definitely *this* ^^^ For maximum impact, Euclid really, really needs to be experienced totally at the end of everything else. It ties everything together with a nice, neat bow and a bucket of tears. Bring tissues and listen carefully.

It's why I'm joining their cult and becoming a worshipper: these guys don't waste a quarter of a second in their songs. Everything is so polished and yet so raw. Vessel seems to charge every syllable and note with emotion. They always subvert your expectations in nearly every song, always in extremely creative ways, which is more evident in the drums. And yes, there is Tool in there for sure. It's got that sort of prog thing in that part of the track. Seriously, these guys are next level artistry, and not just to metal. They're iconoclasts in a way I have been waiting to happen for years.

I think this is possibly the first time I've seen one of your videos, but I've subbed on the strength of it because your reactions (yep, plural, because nobody has only one reaction after hearing Ascensionism for the first time. It has more layers than an onion) were just perfect. I have to admit to really loving to see people's first reactions to this track because it confuses so many people (a friend of mine on hearing it asked me "Is this still the same song???"). Before making any more Sleep Token deep dives, especially on TMBTE, I'd really recommend going right back and listening to their first two EPs, called "One" and "Two", then taking the three albums in sequential order (Sundowning, This Place Will Become Your Tomb and Take Me Back To Eden). Vessel is an amazing wordsmith and he and the rest of Sleep Token are amazing musicians, plus you'll hear what Vessel's voice was like when he was a bit younger from hearing the EPs (which he sang the vocals and played all the instruments except the drums on, that being left to II, who is a spectacular drumming god, by the way). But I digress a little. It's a journey and one that's best experienced from the beginning. They've made a few covers as well that can be enjoyed as a side dish in this auditory banquet. ❣worship❣

Just wanted to say, this was a great reaction. You took it back for all the good spots, didn't talk over them, or pause too much, and you had the lyrics up! I wish there were more reactors out there that did this. You're absolutely right about Vessel's screams being the definition of anger. The line at the end, when he's screams, "You make me wish I could disappear!" Always get to me. Anyone going through so much pain at once gets it too, I'm sure. They aren't ready to hit delete, just a full stop and stay there for a bit. You should check out their songs Granite or The Summoning (it's like a Marvel movie - don't skip the end). I think people new to the genre of metal will interpret all screams as anger or rage but I think you'll get more out of a song like this if you consider that, especially in more emotional songs like this, the scream can be an expression of determination, desperation or just agony.

I'm sure other people have mentioned it before, but this album and the 2 before it tell a story. The concept is pretty deep, but also fairly vague and you can interpret it in many ways, but keep a couple of concepts in your mind. First: Have you ever thought you loved somebody, fell for them so hard that they become your entire world and nothing else exists? It's basically obsession, but in your mind it's love. It's a very dangerous state of mind both for you and the object of your desire. In your obsession you build that person up into a deity, a goddess, somebody who no other human being could ever come close to. And you're not worthy, but you'll do literally anything for them. Second: The other person knows about your infatuation and uses it. They use it against you because they love the way it makes them feel. To feel desired, loved, important. You know that they're using you, but you think to yourself that you can be what they want, too, and they'll fall for you. This album has themes of breaking free from that hold that she has over him. My interpretation is while he still loves her, he's realizing his self-worth. On his journey to become something more, something she would desire, he realizes his own value. Ascensionism is essentially about breaking free from that hold. He's ascending, becoming like the deity he imagined her to be. Powerful, worthy, free. "You're going to watch me ascend!" She won't be able to use him anymore. He's more than just an object for her to use. "You make me wish I could disappear!" Becoming powerful and free from her hold doesn't mean he stopped loving her. He's emotionally still torn between his ascension and his love for her. I'm rambling, but there's a phenomenal video here on youtube going deep into the lore and interpreting the story. It's long as he goes through the entire trilogy, but it's sooo good. The channel's called FutureDrive and the vid is almost an hour and a half. I highly recommend! Thanks for your reaction.

Whether it's Progressive Rock, Progressive Metal, or even Progressive Pop, the Prog subgenre thrives on odd, unconventional time signatures and musical experimentation. Sometimes, what was once Prog becomes mainstream and changes music forever - if you look at Prog Rock from the 70's like Kansas or Genesis, it's not hard to see how some of their innovations are now just the gold standard of how things are done - but other times, the really weird stuff becomes a defining characteristic of the practice. Sleep Token breaks any and all boundaries in sound and genre, but if you wanted to give them a really broad classification, it would have to be "Prog". Prog what, exactly? That kinda depends on the song. Could be Prog Metal, or it could be Prog R&B. That's the beauty of music without boundaries.

It's reminds you of Tool because of the uncommon rhythm. I don't know if polyrhythm is the correct term, but you can tell it's unusual because you got what I call the Tool headbang. It's on beat, then they lose you, so you start just shaking your head and nodding, trying to find their rhythm. It's common with Tool until you know the song and the changes to the rhythm. Then you can head bang on the beat.

Tool is a more fair comparison than you might think, the odd timing and offbeat grooves are a signature of progressive metal which is the main style of music both tool and sleep token play. Prog metal is an awesome genre, most bands make their own unique sound by incorporating other music styles into metal.
