I just recently told myself "enough is enough" Because I was so tired of telling myself "get over your anxiety, be confident, talk to more people" but never actually trying to do it. For years its felt like an endless cycle of dealing with social anxiety which prevented me from literally doing anything, just going out and stepping into a cafe made my heart drop, or going anywhere far into a city. Even just trying to get a job. I kept telling myself how useless I was. I still do sometimes. I'm 21 now, I've been going out a little more, and am able to ask people for directions or for help. I can also buy things more myself now too. I'm hoping that one day I can be the person I've fantasized to be. Be Social, speak my mind, walk up to a person and say "hey you're handsome!" and just be comfortable anywhere I go. To be comfortable with myself and not worry so much about anything. That's who I want to be.

Thanks a lot Julien for this video and everything you do, you're a huge inspiration for me. 6 months ago I've found myself in the dark place: my wife left, leaving me a goodbye note and then next moment I've got the news that my father passed away. In one single day my whole life went upside down. But eventually that terrible day made my life go rather up than down and I'm so thankful to you for pointing me into the right directions (such as Letting Go) to get moving, get over and become better. Anyways, I just wanted to call out that accepting who you are today (even if that's a fake version of yours) is an important step on a journey towards changing. Because if you don't accept who you became - you'll probably hate yourself which is never good. Here accepting wouldn't mean giving up on a change, that's rather the starting point for it. So I believe one should start with accepting whichever fakes they became, understanding that they did it under the social conditioning pressure and then moving towards their true selves by exploring their values and authenticity. So just wanted to drop this comment for the community - don't hate yourselves for what you've become, accept it, own it and start moving forward. There's interesting journey awaits you there!

I have an inverse experience with this. I had a lot of people around me who told me I could be anything (and outside of their suggestions, as Julien suggests, I did have more specific dreams for myself). I was never really told by anyone to put away my unrealistic expectations. Rather, my own inner voice was and still is so punishing toward any semblance of failure or imperfection along the learning process that it stifled my expression.

Next Day Update: Today I wore a full zipped up long sleeve, and a pendant necklace I've tucked away for 15 years since it was always considered too flamboyant to wear. Today I rocked it; and felt like the sexiest man walking around town. When I spoke to the cashier, and she put in the extra effort. I reminded her with a large bounding smile how she is the best; and I appreciate her. Stared her in the eyes and watched that smile explode across her face. I needed this video. I needed to be reminded of my greatness.

As a 30 year old, I've just accepted that from an early age, I never really wanted to be anything. I'm just in a world that forces me to be or do something. I mean sure, I put down "artist" as my career of choice, and in a large way, that still rings true today. But luckily, I'm on disability for a serious mental illness, so I have the time and space to do whatever I want. I know to this day, I'm too tired and depressed to keep up with a job. I need all the rest I can get from the exhaustive list of demands and expectations from society.

@leowagstaff2113 kinda wondering why you've only been suffering with it for 2 years and what the triggering event that caused the anxiety in the first place was. I know for me I've been suffering from this my entire life. I had friends growing up, but I'll be honest- I'm 30 years old now and I'm just as lost as you are. I wish I knew the right path for you career wise, but I think a big part of that will take reconditioning your lens in which you see life. I suggest seeing Heidi Priebes video on toxic shame. It could really benefit you.

Be open and curious. Ask questions, and don’t let anyone make you feel bad for not knowing something - that’s just their insecurities projected onto you. You don’t need to know everything in order to be confident in who you are. on the other hand if the lack of knowledge is affecting your job performance, that’s tricky and I’ve been there. Try figuring out areas you DO have a lot of knowledge in and consider aligning with something that fits more with that - you’ll find you’re more passionate and attractive here too. Best of luck!

I don't have any problem with strangers. I am quite confident when I am alone. I used to think I am not but it turns out I am. I am not confident with mutual friends. I am friends with some mutuals and we chat but when we meet in groups I get stifled. Why? I think when I am with them alone I can talk endlessly and build strong relationships. But when I am in the group along with my friends I cannot talk! I sense that I don't fit in.

I'm only 22 and still have a lot to learn, but not even a year ago today, I was heavily addicted to cocaine and marijuana. I couldn't stop self sabotaging and people I talked to about it thought I was either lying/ over-exaggerating or it didn't make sense to them because on the surface in a decent looking at least; capable on the surface kid. I've been in and out of 5 or so mental hospitals, and it hurt me not to be able to get across to people that I was dying. I felt dead already so I didn't do anything about it until I found something when meditating and spending time in nature by myself(where I had always been) and something I didn't do at younger ages even though I enjoyed it. Whatever that thing is for you; is what will save you. Create a routine and do it. Everyday even if it becomes hard. Don't do too much too soon. That will only make you upset when you can't achieve your own standards. Build them.

When you are a child you don't even understand or process how the world around you really works, that's why it's way easier to pick one option. That power that you talk about is just as you said it, a fantasy. I usually understand your talks and share your opinions but in this case it's pretty clear how you are just making an excuse to generalize things in your likeness A class of 10 year old childs would react exactly the same. Dreams are dreams, and treating them as a reality is one of the REAL reasons of why people loses that "motivation" Hope you doing amazing there are some things that are right but they are very general, and really really driven by your personal trauma, you are talking more to yourself than to the room, and they showed you. It's a shame because this kind of people are the ones that feel that their personal experiences resumes other people's live because they can make a bussines out of their emotional lost or selfcare, sometimes giving more doubt than enlightment to other people. Other things where good as always, but as you said, it's complex and when you have a situation that can't get resumed by this, it burns a little. but i hope things go amazing in the future🎉

@@fosminclorin yea I figured that’s probably what the message he’s trying to send by wearing such a wild arrangement of clothing. Seems like a gimmick

By the thumbnail i thought the topic of the video was going to be something like, "Dressing like an idiot (Ali G) has to stop". 😂. I thought the arrow was pointing to the moronic looking shirts, glasses etc. I'm not trying to be mean... i genuinely thought that was going to be what the video was about. You put out some solid contrnt though.
