Interesting little tidbit: When you’re wandering around the gardens at the beginning of the flashback, before you go talk to the duke, you can hear the duchess talking to her handmaidens. If you trigger it a couple of times, she specifically says “if any harm comes to Joshua, it’ll be on your heads” or something to that effect. Cut to after Joshua has been killed, and she keeps her word.

Somehow I found this kinda weird since those 2 handmaidens weren't at the Phoenix keep in the first place. Maybe it's just Annabelle's being unreasonable.

Koe is definitely still a newbie with Final Fantasy games, the British accents are usually just with the Medieval types. Which is like 4 out of more than 20 games. This game was Medieval as a sort of love letter to the devs who like Matsuno's games (Tactics Ogre, Vagrant Story, FF Tactics). Its kinda funny how people say this feels better than most JRPGs, but they basically show they don't know many RPGs or remember the stories they've played. Its a well crafted game, but I'm thinking this shows how having nearly a decade between releases can muddle the perception of a series.

as for motion blur theyve heard the feedback and will probably patch in an option to turn it off sometime in the future. theres a tiny day one patch for minor fixes for the game now.

Torgal is the Eikon .... FENRIR.... Torgal was witness to Ifrit killing Joshua. Clive having no controll over Ifrit was viewing Joshua's death through Torgals eyes. And for Torgal to survive the explosion at the Phoenix death proves he's no mortal wolf.

Yeah, sorry, but that's just such a stretch. Clive has nothing to do with Ifrit at this point in the story. He has the phoenix blessing while Joshua is the dominant. There's CLEARLY another person there. I don't see why people are jumping on this bs that Clive is the one that actually killed Joshua, it makes no sense. It's a story of revenge, where's the revenge if he's the killer? When the third person appeared he was behind Clive, and Clive turned around to see him clearly, the guard saw him as well. Clive was tossed away hidden behind rocks while the captain didn't have the same luck. Also, yelling at himself murderer, and that he'll kill him. What? Such a stretch. Clive has the ability to siphon the dominants powers and use them himself, it looks like that. At some point he'll do this to ifrit and completely take over. Furthermore, after the fight the captain of the intruders said "that monster did such damage," referring to Ifrit, and the way they talked is like they expected it. If Clive was Ifrit, they would've been surprised.

@@kohl2807 There's a few reasons why people are jumping to the conclusion that Clive is Ifrit. One, trailers and promotional material showing Clive as Ifrit have coloured peoples perception. Two, the way the scene is portrayed, Clive has a headache, then see's a dude made of fire, then a pillar of fire engulfs where both Clive and the ghost were standing, furthermore there's a screen effect right before we hear Joshua's thoughts once he becomes the phoenix, likewise we only hear Clive's voice after the same screen effect happens again at the end of the primal fight. The dude made of fire could be some phantom form of the eikon seen by Clive before choosing him as its host. There's also the confusion about how Clive is witnessing what's taking place if he's unconscious inside the castle walls and how he survived the pillar of fire that incinerated the lord commander. People are naturally coming to the conclusion that Clive doesn't know he's Ifrit and that the writers are setting up a twist, or some kind of dramatic irony. Personally I'm going to wait and see before coming to any conclusions, but I do feel the battle between Phoenix and Ifrit is less tragic if Clive isn't the one who killed Joshua. There's a lot they could do with the premise of a revenge story where the protagonist has to come to terms with the fact that they are at least partially responsible for the death of a loved one.

@@stigs6591 That's way too little to conclude that Clive is Ifrit at that point in time. On two different occasions we see the third person. One when he looks human with the hood, the other when he's made out of fire. Both times Clive turns his head to see the person, indicating he's occupying a different space than himself. The second time the commander sees it too, and he's looking past Clive, not down at him. Clive having a headache could simply mean he's resonating with the primal, and is compatible to hold it. Clive has the blessing of the phoenix, so it isn't a big surprise for him to survive the fire if we're going to stretch our imagination, and not just take what we see for granted. But it was explained that the rubble protected him from it. The first time that Eikon vision happens, both Ifrit and Phoenix are shown from a third person perspective, far away from them. If this was Clive looking through Ifrit, he wouldn't be able to see himself as Ifrit. He also hears the dog whimper at this time, so he could be watching through Torgals eyes. The second scene, is also not directed from Ifrit eyes, but from further away, just zoomed in. At 2:07:24 there is a blink, indicating whoever is watching, blinked. And the point of view is far away from both Joshua and Ifrit. Also, trailers and promotional material did show Clive as Ifrit, but that doesn't mean he's born with it. At the playthrough vs Garuda, he's obviously siphoning her power at the end. The more likely scenario is that Cid will battle the Ifrit, and Clive will absorb its power, and we'll come with two Ifrits that will duke it out. And the most obvious of evidence is that Clive literally screams "Murderer, I'll kill you." If he was watching through Ifrit killing his own brother, I'd assume there'd be confusion, not such a clear cut declaration.

​@@kohl2807 i want to add something. Judging by joshuas dialogue, you could think that phoenix is in this universe seen as the eikon of fire. "THERE IS ONLY ONE EIKON OF FIRE" makes no sense to say if ifrit is an already established eikon/dominant. But you could take this as joshua being uneducated in the matter. But i dont think hes that uneducated with the eikons and dominants. So ifrit couldve been dormant for a long while. My theory atm is: Ifrit is an unknown eikon. And theres only one ifrit. Clive is Ifrits dominant and thats why the phoenix rejected him when he was young. Phoenix gate is when Clive morbs for the first time. And im not guessing from camera work. But lord commander murdocks reaction. *turns around* "my lord?" Its as if he is witnessing something weird, my guess is that state we have seen older clive in during trailers. I think he wouldve reacted more aggresive and less confused if it had been a third party present. Either that, or the second ifrit is someone they know but we as players dont know. Also we have way to little info how the eikons work with their dominants? Can they communicate? We will have to wait and see. But i know cbu3 loves manipulating footage in their trailers. Also some stuff said in the jp special stream of 16 (like a live letter from 14) hints that... clive was the ifrit at phoenix gate. Think a panel said something like "clive chasing joshuas 'supposed' murderer" Heck by cbu3s standards it wouldnt surprise me if joshua somehow is alive, but is controlled 100%by the phoenix and joshua isnt "present". But tbh, i just 2ant to play this story already.

You missed it because you clicked Anabella's lore a touch early, but if you click it again later in the same cutscene, it updates: Anabella and Elwin are cousins.

The fact it looks like you can just miss lore if you don't want to ruin the flow and emotion of a scene by pausing to read is really fucking dumb. Its a good feature to have but come on, make it accessible after the scenes are done so you don't have to choose between enjoying or understanding the story.

​@@crashwithkirby6708Its mainly the feel, they have the same type of mature themes in many other titles, they just were more cartoonish looking and were given a Teen rating in order that the games was sold to more people. Its the *perception* that matters. This isn't the first mainline or sideline title with blood, torture, suicide, hell there is talk of children being sold into prostitution in other ones. Its just that for people who don't know as much, marketing a japanese RPG, which has gotten unfair stigma due to links with anime (which is hilariously ironic coming from the critics), as being more "mature" is a good ploy. Yoshi P basically said this was the first mainline title where they could forego their apprehensions about appearing to want to cater to all ages. That's the difference.
