I love how the marketing made it seem like the revenge plot would go on for a large chunk of the game but in actuality it only goes on for some few hours until Clive realizes the truth and then later accepts it through this badass boss fight within himself And to think, he still doesn’t know that Joshua is alive or why he’s a second Dominant of fire in the first place. Still got a whole lot of game ahead of us!

The wolf sidequest is super well designed. I was sort of expecting a "Oh, go kill the beast, save the kid, yadda yadda" side quest. But no, they took the opportunity to use this quest to continue to paint that picture of how cruel these people are to Bearers, and continue to drive home the atmosphere of prejudice and war in the world. I'm noticing that the side quests in this game, while mechanically formulaic and straightforward as far as fetch/hunt quests go (to the point of being literally "go here, here, and here, and talk to 3 people" sometimes), tend to always use the scenario to at least give you those little nuggets of context into the story. Too many games just do those kinds of fetch quests and the NPC just says "Thanks for the wolf pelts - see you later!", and that's it. The side quests in XVI are all telling some kind of story, and are "fetch quests done right", imo.
@arenkai
@arenkai Жыл бұрын
Those quest are great ! The ones you get at the hideout serve to deepen the side characters and give more depth to the entire operation and the logistics behind it (the people that feed you, those that heal you, that train the Cursebreakers, etc.) The ones in the zone at the end of the video are the one that hit the hardest though, because you are left powerless most of the time, just witnessing the horrors. And yet you have some people out there saying it's trash because Clive didn't kill the Masters himself so he's basically complicit with the slavery and abuse the Bearers are put through and a pawn of the system. Forgetting that he's undercover to topple said system, and would jeopardize the entire operation if he attracted attention to him more than necessary. Being a swordsman-Bearer is one thing. Being a Bearer that slaughters "good folk" (by the realm's standard) is another entirely.

This game is pure bliss for action aficionados. I can't recall the last time I have been completely spellbound by a game. Every single main boss makes the classic God of War titles bow their head in reverence for being too EPIC. This game beckons me when I'm not playing. I can hear it calling my damn name! I've spent tons of hours in training as well and the depth of this combat system and the combo potential is hack and slash nirvana. Easily rivals the best in the genre. Even Devil May Cry 5 and Dante's "just give him EVERYTHING" design philosophy, and yet hack and slash is always considered to consist of nothing but mindless button mashing. It's unfortunate that the majority of players will never know the hidden complexity of these games.
@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams
@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams Жыл бұрын
People who lack skill in games like these will use the most basic combos and strategies and then say it's all button mashing. A good hack and slash system relies on being easily accessible, which XVI is, but hard to master and gets more fun as the player becomes better. Which XVI also gets right.
@Kronos_88
@Kronos_88 Жыл бұрын
@@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams I mean it's *mostly* button mashing. I died once in NG to the level 50 hunt (which I did at level 38) but other than that I never got close to dying. You literally dump your stagger abilities, spam Square + Triangle with some dodges, then you stagger them and you just spam all your abilities and finish with Gigaflare or Judgment Bolt or both. The combat is laughably easy, it's way too easy to dodge damage. I could probably get my gf to finish this game with 0 game overs without using the Timely accessories and she has never played an action RPG or a hack and slash game.
@dismissedrealist6059
@dismissedrealist6059 Жыл бұрын
@@Kronos_88 The problem is accessibility. They want to attract newcomers to the genre and don't want to alienate the purist fandom. These games are far more complex than 90% of players will ever know. I've yet too see someone launch an enemy in the air when they're on their back with a charged magic spell, or refusing to abandon square for example. Something so basic but goes unexplained. People save their Eikon abilities for when the will gauge is broke, instead of experimenting with each ability to see what will suspend enemies in the air or close distance abd and combine them to create your own personal combos. These are basic mechanics but they need to be discovered by the player. Unfortunately they never give you real incentive to "get good" in order to beat these games. They never force you to learn how to juggle enemies or incorporate each ability in one long combo string. Which is the appeal of the games to me. The EXPERIMENTATION and learning how to create your own spectacle. That's why there's a training mode, because it's not senseless button mashing if you want to learn the combat and realize it's full potential. It's a pure skill issue and no understanding of the design philosophy if you decide to just button mash your way through the game. Which I can see from the KZbinrs that's boring and repetitive as hell. So it makes for a dull and uninspired experience.
@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams
@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams Жыл бұрын
@dismissedrealist6059 Thankfully there's some KZbinrs who play games like DMC5 and make combo mad videos for games like those who also got into this game and they've been making stellar vids showcasing different builds and ways to use Eikons. I took it upon myself to do no damage vids against as many hunts and bosses as I can and made a separate channel for those vids. Wouldn't be able to no damage my way through by just button mashing. One could go through the entirely of a DMC game button mashing Rebellion's most basic combos and Stinger but where is the fun in that? So yes, it's about experimentation. Again, these people will do the most basic shit and complain the game is too basic. Try button mashing through Ultimaniac mode.
@dismissedrealist6059
@dismissedrealist6059 Жыл бұрын
@@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams It just sucks that those KZbinrs barely have any following. Compared to your casual gamer/streamer that has absolutely no understanding of the hidden mechanics or or any sort of grasp on the concept of EXPERIMENTATION. The players that put up combo mads are the one's that review copies should be sent out too. Their gameplay would elicit so much more excitement and would actually peak people's interest. Would also give the community an idea of the possibilities with type of action.

Coming back around to watch now that Ive played the shit out of the game and I gotta say... Final Fantasy mode makes the game EVEN BETTER. I did feel things were too easy at times, and that took away a bit from my engagement. Having to really consider my build and use all my tools to their fullest makes the game flow in a way that it just can't with easier, less aggro enemies. Bosses also stick around longer and really make you sweat. Its phenomenal. I only wish Square could have a difficulty that gives me this experience on the first playthrough. Its not too big a deal though, because the story is so well written that the second time through is incredibly rewarding. What a fuckin game.

Max is blowing me away with how good he is about landing the aerial and burst combo stuff. It's legit impressive. I'm glad that there's a higher skill floor to the game that I can aspire to. Makes it feel really good to get gud. Edit: I fought Atlas yesterday and that was peak example. Using Titan to precision counter through the big attacks, the ones that basically instakill you, felt friggin amazing. When you execute this combat system the way it's intended to be used, you feel so godlike. I dunno how Odin and Bahamut are going to compete with the sheer ludicrous fun that is using Garuda and Titan powers. Ramuh might be a miss, except for that thicc Judgment bolt, but Odin and Bahamut will have to be absurd to make me want to forego the counter and grab stuff.

If you haven't tried yet, give Ramuh's lightning rod a go! So many ways to utilize that skill and it honestly does ridiculous damage when you set it up correctly. I also really like Ramuh's blind justice to start the fight when fighting trash mobs. It takes like 1 second to get it to full 9 stacks against multiple enemies, and it gets them to like half hp and staggers the entire room

Why are you talking about stuff that clearly hasn't happened yet and may provide spoilers for those that haven't gotten that far and are just watching these to see how max reacts to certain plot twists as they get to them themselves?

I can’t imagine ever not equipping heatwave, it’s just so fucking sick and also good. I like to see that Max clearly understands how useful it is for breaking down a fresh stagger meter. Edit: that Lich fight was impressive, Max absolutely making him look like a jobber mob. Counter moves OP, I also cannot wait for hard mode, especially after how much of a blast it was in FF7R.

Have you tried our lord and savior ignition? I currently can't think of anything I'd want to replace with Heat Wave. Projectiles are so few in this game and Raging Fists fills the counter mechanic better.

@@EBCX Yes and no. A lot of eikon abilities are just not rewarding. Titan stand around waiting for pushover enemies to block. Bahamut float around waiting for pushover enemies to dodge. I know because those are my favorite Eikon's but the game is so passive and slow with enemies that the playstyle gets punished with boredom. Animation locks prevent seamless shifts from floating to blocking as well. I'd love to watch a Ramuh, Garuda, Titan player though. That'd be a long video.

@@thorinhannahs4614 Combine Ignition with Will-O-The-Wykes. Absolutely melts enemy stagger bars and health. Wykes also keeps you safe from damage for a few hits. I got good at precision dodging so it gives me a lot of confidence to be unrelenting against bosses and hunts when it's active. Atm on Phoenix I have Heatwave and Wykes which are my two defensive abilities cause I use heatwave to throw back projectiles, Ignition to combine with Wykes and Wicked Wheel on Garuda and the starter abilities on Ramuh that I can use to extend air combos. Keen to try out other builds as I progress but I'm taking my sweet time getting all the trophies I can out of the way and mastering the combat system
@thorinhannahs4614
@thorinhannahs4614 Жыл бұрын
@@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams Yeah been there done that mid game it is nice. Will of Wykes gets equipped during a boss fight since it is steadier DPS than Ignition. Ignition is equipped for mobs as it groups trash mobs into Flames of Rebirth. I dropped Garuda hard as most of her abilities fail to scale later in the game and most bosses are very awkward if not impossible to air combo. The high end of combat is going to see a lot of Odin, Shiva and Phoenix.

This is one of those games that I have to do every mission and side quest and see it all. The story is so amazing and the world looks so beautiful on PS5 I'm getting lost in it. This vs RE4 for GOTY...RE4 is amazing nothing bad to say about it, but the new and completley original story in FF16 is why it might take my vote.
