So very sorry for the news you received. Pets add so much joy to our lives and losing them is so very hard. Glad he is feeling better with the pain meds. The hardest part of living is saying goodbye. So prayers for you both as you go through this trying time. I lived in Anchorage for 20 years about 30 years ago. It’s beautiful but expensive. Totally worth it. Thanks for sharing your lives with us. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much for your kindness. In our 16 married years we've had to say goodbye to 2 pets and it just never gets easier. Since our videos are always a little behind real life I'll give you a quick Cody update. He is still enjoying traveling with us and actually enjoys taking his meds which is good. While it's sometimes tough to realize that our time with him is limited we genuinely are enjoying every day we get. Hopefully we'll get to see your old home state in 2024. -J

@@brittneygriffin Cinder passed this past summer (2023) She was a trooper, got an ear infection and then another different infection common with rabbits back to back that left her with permanent head tilt. But she acted like it was normal for 5 more years. She lived to be 8 which is average for Rabbits and we didn't think she'd make it to her 3rd or 4th birthday for a while. Miss that girl. -J

Thank you so much. He's still bringing us joy every day as he hops around and begs for his bananas. (I think we are about 2 months down the road from when this was filmed.) The only progression that we have seen is that he drools more than the dog, but that's to be expected with where the tumor is. As long as he remains happy on his pain meds we're going to give him all the love we can. -J

I am so so sorry about Cody. And I can empathize. In October 2017, we adopted a neglected 10 month old yellow lab mix. After about 2.5 years of training, love, patience, he was starting to enjoy being a safe, loved, secure dog. In June 2021, his face swelled from a bee sting, so we took him to the vet, and that was resolved quickly. The bloodwork still concerned the vet, so she did further testing. Bottom line, he was born with kidney dysplasia, and based on his numbers, he had about three months to live before his kidneys shut down. We made the same decision. We could have tortured him with hospitalizations, fluids, dialysis, etc. Instead, we took a road trip, made all yummy homemade meals for him, spoiled the hell out of him, and said our final goodbyes in August. It was the worst grief I ever felt, mostly because he had JUST started really enjoying his life. We have consoled ourselves with the fact that he did know so much love for 80% of his short life. I’m so, so sorry.

I'm so sorry you had to experience that road. The grief is always so hard because they have such an impact. 😭 We just lost Cody's buddy Cinder this past summer so this felt like such a gut punch in November. We feel soo blessed to have had 4 months (and counting) with Cody taking his twice daily meds and hopping around the RV like he owns the place. We don't know how much time we have left but are grateful for every day. -J

I had an English Spot that got cancer at around 9y/o. It was aggressive, the vet talked us into the surgery, they took out the mass but didn't get it all. It grew around into his chest cavity, crushing his lungs. If I were faced with a similar dilemma today, I would not have opted for the surgery. Poor thing was fighting the cancer and trying to heal from the surgery in the last week of his life. Pain on top of pain, never again.

That's sad about your bun bun. I've had rabbits through the years and they are such sweet pets. I also had a pet turkey that got sick, took her to the vet and they discovered she had cancer. A year ago I lost my little dog to cancer, she was 15. It's hard to get that diagnosis, you feel so bad for them. My priorities in life are people, then pets, then money....if we adopt a pet, it's our responsibility to give them the best life we can provide and that includes medical care. It's nice to see you love and care for your pet, so many don't.

We just lost our 14.5 year old Labradoodle this past July while we were in Valdez, Alaska. We adopted him at a shelter when he was 9 months old. Definitely, one of the most painful time in our lives. There was only ONE vet in town. And we knew our dog was slowing down, but the fantastic vet told us that its better to put them down too soon vs too late. That struck a cord with us to make the decision. We miss our Dookie so much, but, we know we made the best decision knowing how awesome of a long life he had. He'll always be with us no matter what. God Bless.

Not a problem! It's hard to convey every thing on a youtube channel so of course some things are going to get lost along the way - and of course not everyone sees every video. And on top of that...there is a lot of garbage on the internet where people are trying to make a quick buck or worse, scam people out of their money. That's why we specifically do not ask for money. This channel is about our journey and this series of videos is about us working hard to turn Kalyn's biz around to dig us out of our own hole and hustle with side gigs to earn money for Alaska. 😁 Glad you enjoyed watching! Our story is similar, I didn't want to do RV life but Kalyn did! It took her several years and watching a few youtube channels together for me to be convinced. Just goes to show you a dog wasn't the first thing she convinced me about. LOL -J

Glad you stuck around! I encourage you to consider that it's not always the right thing to adopt a pet...you have to make sure you are ready to commit to it for life before you say yes, otherwise you end up with a pet dumped along side the road. Sometimes the right thing is to get the pet to someone who is equipped to find the animal a better forever home. I'm only adding this in here because there has been a lot of "the right thing" in the comments and it bothers me that people could be shamed for rescuing an animal but not adopting it because it wasn't right for their situation or they weren't capable of providing the home the animal needed most. -J

So sorry about your rabbit. My daughter and grand-daughter had a rabbit. Rabbit Stu was his name. My input. Sorry!! He got scratched by their cat which formed an abcess. Finally found a vet who would see him. His comment was he is just a rabbit put him down and get something else. I’m an RN so I treated like he was a human. Drained abcess kept it open it channeled through his ear. But after weeks of treatment with peroxide and debreedment then packing with Desitin. He healed and died severa❤l years later of old age.

I'm shocked the vet said to put it down. A lot of people don't realize how hard it is to find a good exotic vet and your story confirms that even more. So glad you were able to give it the care it needed. As to the name, I chuckled. I'm not sure Kalyn would. lol The care you gave it matters so much more than the name though. -J

I’m so sorry about your rabbit. We went through something very similar. She was 11 1/2 and I found a tumor in the back of her mouth. They biopsied it and it was cancer and she was given 3 months. My friend’s dog was diagnosed with the same cancer but it was in a more operable spot (our’s was not)…but to remove it meant to remove half his lower jaw. He did get over a year longer than my dog did…but he couldn’t eat or drink on his own anymore. It was heartbreaking but she at least got to leave this world pretty pain free and otherwise healthy. Enjoy your time with him. You will have so many good times to look back on which, in time, will be what you think about.

This is weeks after you posted this video. I’m so sorry to hear about your rabbit. It’s very sad. I do admire your desire (as you should as a responsible pet owner) to provide the best you can for your bunny to make his last months the best. As far as trinity and the bunny they will get along very well. Dogs have to be taught to hunt and not like other species, Except squirrels and birds and most snakes, they are known to be a natural chaser of them. But as for rabbits and cats most dogs have no problems getting them to get along. Best wishes. Love the content by the way. You guys are very inspiring.

You guys have convinced me that I need to replace my roof this year. I have put it off way too long. I wanted to use the money for something else but, it has been put off too long and for too many less important things. It is so funny to be watching your videos out of order since I know “the future” but it is still fun. I will continue binge watching.

Sorry for Cody. I completely understand. I’ve spent $10,000 on a dog for surgery that they said she would not last for for 3 months. Ended up lasting 9 years. I recommend you call Rv armor and they can put on a new roof for way cheaper then the dealership will do and it’s a lifetime warranty. Just a thought for when the time comes. Enjoy your journey, and take care

God bless you guys 🙏🙏🙏 We travel with our cat. We were actually on our way home from a funeral in Georgia. We live in Florida. About 35 minutes noth of Tampa Reggie had a problem. We phoned ahead and found an emergency vet. We parked the RV, Class A diesel pusher, and i had the car unhooked in under a minute. The vet said he had a blockage in his blood stream. His entire hind quarters were completely useless and he voided himself. The doctor told us there was a medication they could give him. It only had a 15% sucess rate. It would take a week to work "if" it even would and during that time his hind quarters would think he was dead and start delaying. 💔😭 They recommend letting him go. We felt sick, but it was the right thing to do. I highly sympathize with you guys. Pets are family and it really hurts losing them.

I'm so sorry about Cody, I haven't gotten to that part and not sure I want to. They aren't just our pets, they're family. I had a rabbit named pandora, who turned into pandor when he started marking his territory. He went to live on a farm when he became more then double in size. I had already purchase 3 cages since he was a baby and couldn't keep him cause my step father wanted him gone. I was sad when Cody got the eye infection. I would of done the same with warm compress. I would of held him all night. 😢I don't think I want to see what happened so I'm gonna stop at the roof. Good luck and I will picture Cody just went to stay with family. Don't tell me different. ❤❤

Having the opportunity to test it out for 3 months is incredible. It will give you a really good idea as to whether or not you can enjoy living in a small space with the benefit of a new front yard whenever you feel like it. Keep us posted on your journey! -J

My advice is go old school. Don't use your microwave or any other electrical appliance. We toasted bread on a stove top toaster. Made coffee using a stove top percolator. Or used a French press. I last did the about 5 years boondocking in Northern Ontario in my motor home. I was able to last three weeks before my black and gray tanks needed to be emptied and I needed to fill my water tank. My house batteries needed charged by then too. Baths were taken in the lake I was camping near with environmentally friendly soap.

On a lot of alloy rims they leak around the rim where the bead of the tire and the rim touch it’s like the chrome wears off , you can run your fingers around the inside of the rim and if you feel a rough spot where the chrome pealed. Many of the western states are 80mph, its crazy, we never go over 65 when towing so we get some flak from drivers that want to go 90. Are you guys pulling that thing with a gaser, it must be to only have a 20 gal tank. Dude that roof is screwed, that cracking is really bad, time to replace that roof or use one of the whole roof coating systems but they are expensive. One good thing about traveling the west is you rarely have rain like we get in florida. Did you guys purposely get an old rv that is falling apart so you have lots of youtube content, haha. You need to use a proper roller to make sure that eternabond is sealed properly. Screw that, even if they dont allow washing, i wash the roof anyway, what are they going to do kick us out, we are usually only at a campground for a few days at a time. We have a youtube rv channel with 50k subs and have never gotten a super thanks, congrats. I didnt mean to watch a 25 min video this morning but your story kind of sucked me in, and you kept me wanting to know what was going to happen, spending big money on pets medical is a tough call, especially when they get close to the end of life. When we lost our pets, no way we could have held it together to share online.
@OpenRoading
@OpenRoading 10 ай бұрын
I'm totally with you on the 65mph thing. Actually cut a good chunk of video out where I discussed that very topic. It's crazy to me whenever an RV passes me doing 75-80, even if its the speed limit. So you'll need to stay tuned on the roof. We've been working on it. I'm hoping to get another couple of years out of it and after some of the work I've done, I'm hopeful. I know for sure that I will be up on the roof far more often though giving it thorough inspections. We got this RV because we loved it...it's falling apart because we've lived in it for 4 years and I haven't done enough solid maintenance on it because I haven't learned enough yet. Working on that. This thing is solid as a tank though which is one of the reasons we love it so much. Yeah, pets care is always tough so I was glad this was a pretty clear cut decision for us. So far he's still loving life and taking his meds every day. Just drools a little bit. -J
