I'm shocked you can race your cars without the transmission being covered. You've got extremely hot oil in the cabin with you, and as you can see in this case if there's a problem it's instantly no vision and even worse that is a fire. It's always been a question for me when I've been watching some of these on the safety component. Glad you're safe!

The state of the engine after running without oil is a testament to how well you build engines! Sorry it ended the way it did, that really sucks with all the hard work so many people put into this. Thanks for showing all of this raw so we can learn. I built my last Small Block Chevy more decades ago than I care to admit and what you are doing is so far beyond anything we were doing then is incredible. It is also great to see that the racing community is still so awesome about helping each other. It was that way in the 80's when I was racing and is obviously still that way.

The only thing I can think of is my days in the Air Force where for both electrical & especially hydraulic lines that see 3000psi are clamped & braced all along there length, anywhere from 6 inches to 2 feet depending on the bend i.e. the shorter and/or bend of 90degress max has the greatest stress relief added. With the new tires causing multiple shacking may of been enough to cause the fitting/line to blow. This not being your first time either SO it may be time to investigate & re-engineer the transmission lines, how they are supported with a focus on the type of fittings that are being used & whether switching to a better design with raised stand offs if needed to attach the line to be relieved. Also a 2/3 Tranny shell cover added to prevent hot fluids from spraying directly on you leaving the passenger 1/3 open to allow inspection of said lines & connections. Lastly a fire extinguisher nozzle pointing directly at the tranny. Anyhoo glad you're ok.

Looking at the vid, there might be some front suspension damage but the road wheel looks untouched. Given the rear fender was not rubbing the tire, the rear suspension is untouched. I'm hoping that in the light of day they take a look at the car and see only sheet metal damage. The real issue is the trans line coming off for a 2nd time and the lack of a trans cover that was supposed to be installed after the first line failure.

@@MrSlappo said " With him having Converter issues before I wonder is there is another issue that just hasn't been found yet " You tube hid your comment unless I sort by newest ( putting my screen name link at the end probably did it ) I'm betting that with the solenoids, there is a combination that dead heads the pump and the pressure isn't regulated. If you are speaking of the converter heating, this was supposedly cured by moving the trans away from the engine so the converter isn't engaged into the input shaft as far allowing for more fluid flow.

Mr. Morris and family, the phrase "if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have none at all comes to mind." 1st off, this is a great video. I have spent a lot of time in a machine shop. I was impressed with ACH. (I have access to a Newen EPOCH). I think you should buy a lottery ticket for no more damage than your engine had. 2nd, I don't remember you ever stating what oil you use. They should give you free oil for the rest of your life. I've never seen a better oil commercial in my life. :) I've spent enough time in the seat and standing on the starting line to know what tire shack can do. When I saw smoke and could still hear the engine, I was almost positive you had a trans problem. I'm more certain that you're my kind of person. I saw the look on your wife's face. I've only had to see that a few times in my life. I'm thankful for that. Best wishes to you and your family and here's to better results in the future. :)

I had a similar situation in my car in 2019. Did a repair and during the run the gasket let go and I got oil under the tire at about the 1/8. I was only doing about 150-160 not 180 like you go. But oil under the tire is the worst possible scenario. I have never had a car get that out of shape that fast ever in my life. There’s basically nothing you can do but hold on and hope you don’t hit the wall. Glad to see your okay. And the cars not completely destroyed. Also it was really cool to see your passion and enthusiasm for Val getting back in the car and racing again at the beginning of the video. Good lord Steve, you packed a whole drag n drive worth of drama into a 'casual' test week! Glad to see you're OK! The car isn't in great shape - but it could also be much worse! Sure seems that the recent additions to the engine program have really taken the whole package to another level. At that power level, it's just a matter of time before something goes wrong, and having resilient parts that can be quickly and easily repaired and the extra protection for them is certainly a major benefit. Especially for the drag n drive stuff. ACH looks like a hell of a shop, I honestly don't know how they manage to do THAT much variety of work and maintain any degree of cleanliness, organization, there's shops that struggle to stay in business even just specializing on a few things. Also, Jimmy reminds me of Mike Murillo lol.

Wow! I was planning on going to bed but thought I would just have a quick look at youtube to see if anything interesting going on. Little did I know. Steve yanks engine, full rebuild, install and crash all in one vid. First off, ACH, you guys rock. The fire response crew. Thank you crew! Steve for being Steve. How you can still be happy and smiling is inspirational to some of us. If we were to swap places I would probably be curled up in a ball crying. This really is one of the best channels on KZbin.

I give Val a lot of credit for saving your car. I'm pretty sure that was her telling the fire crew that there was still a fire inside the car. Bummer after all your hard work that's what happened, I hope the rest of the event goes smoothly for you and your team.

53:01 Mr Morris all that matters is that you, your friends and family are alright. It’s a dangerous sport and you walked away with all I can see is some heavy metal damage. As long as that drivetrain is all good there is always next year, you are a great man and this will not slow you down. Just glad everyone is good, thank the lord for that.

Of all the things you could do to not race Alex Taylor.... On a serious note, I'm glad you are ok. I can't believe you got it torn down and put back together for this to happen. Good luck with the repairs.

Really tough trip! Glad you are ok. Cars can be fixed a whole lot easier than people. The safety crew response time was excellent! Fastest I’ve seen outside the NHRA.

Aww, Steve, your wife loves you. Is just glad you weren’t hurt and was ok. And Kyle! Dude rocked the support after the wreck getting that thing together to roll away and was overseeing what all was needed. Great job man. Really am just glad all it was was a banged side and not a banged or burned Steve.

Steve, SO SO GLAD that you're OK and not injured! That was scary to watch, I can't imagine how scary it was for you and your family. The most important thing is that you're OK, the Wagon can be rebuilt and new parts made, which isn't so easy for the human body. I feel your pain, I am absolutely gutted for you and the damage to the Wagon. Sending much ❤ to you, Val, Kyle and all of your team! Take care! PS Massive Shout Out to all the guys at Advanced Cylinder Head, that's an amazing set up you have there and you are so generous for helping Steve out! Great work guys 🙂 PPS Massive Shout Out to the safety team at the strip! Great work guys 🙂

Jesus, Steve. That was truly gut wrenching to see. It's a relief to know you're okay, thank the good Lord for that. Edit: Shout out to ACH for doing you a solid. That was so cool and courteous of them to open their facility to you to get the waggin' back together.

Steve what a ride you took all of us on. I had completely forgotten about the ending after the care and comradery you shared with the entire shop and all of you putting the car back together. Then you rolled up and I anticipated another flawless pass as you've done so many time before. I was heart broken fearing for your safety, then seeing the damage done. Thank God for holding you in his hand and keeping you safe. I hope you can put it all aside and focus now on Val & Sugar Momma, keeping the girls safe. Thanks for being such a great roll model for us to look up to. All the respect in the world for you.

As SOON as you hear whoever yell FIRE, 3 or 4 seconds later that big ass ford fire truck went SCREAMING past!! Glad you are ok Steve!! At least you still have a freshly repaired engine for when you get it all repaired and ready to go back to the track again. And now is the perfect time to put all new hoses in the car also!!

Glad you’re okay! Fires can be scary. Especially around carbon fiber components. The safety equipment is more important than going fast. I saw where the NHRA is going to be teching that stuff hard this year. Keep the videos coming, they’re always very informative.
