Paul and Cathy have created a home that they can truly be proud of. There is so much art and character built into this house, it really is hard to believe it's actually built from a shipping container! The price also blows my mind! What I love about tiny houses is that everyone designs them for themselves. It's not like regular houses where there are four or five designs and colours for the street/area, and the whole thing alternates between them. You don't get to design your home, or decide on materials in a typical house (unless of you are rich, and hire a design firm). It's lovely to see regular people get a chance to do that. The only thing that I wonder about is the size of those stairs; each stair is so tall! I hope they have a plan for the future, because as they age they will become much more difficult.

At this point you may as well just build a wooden tiny house rather than bothering with a container.
@dosadoodle2 жыл бұрын
@@mrhappy623 +1 to that. I'm not sure what benefit the container is providing. It will be difficult to work with and adds a severe thermal bridge all around that must be thoroughly addressed. Paul's words, "even though it's a small space, it doesn't have to be a boring space" should be the motto for tiny houses. Very compact and functional space... For the first time, I feel like this is doable for me...this is an amazing result for USD 13,000. I can afford that. Beautiful as usual...thank you, Bryce and Rasa.

His artistic touch is so beautiful. Simply stunning! How did he get so lucky to pay only $50 for the shipping container?
@Dain752 жыл бұрын
I think you could say that about any space. So many typical homes are incredibly boring. Every house looks the same; bi-level, four level split, or bungalow. There are others, but that's what I see the most where I live. I guess they are the easiest and cheapest to make? It would be lovely if more people had access to an architect to help design their home differently. Even if it's not a massive change, something to make it different from the one across the street besides the colour. More personal. We spend so much time in our homes, they should be places we want to be.

I sincerely doubt that I could spend$13,000 USD, and get a home as great as this one. His cost was so low, not only because he already had the shipping container, but also because he built it himself, he bits of lumber lying around, he is talented in working with wood and he is creative.This is a stunning home that he has built for the two of them. the woodwork is unbelievable, the inlay in the bathroom vanity. This home is gorgeous!

This is absolutely one of the best yet. That kitchen bench top....WOW. But to be honest, what amazed me the most was something Paul said. "I'm a pastry chef by trade". He moved onto a life that was maybe the complete opposite to pastry chef. This is a testament to what we can all do and how our limits don't need to be set by what is assumed. A few favorites: the deck and bench with curved inlays; the extraordinary outer doors by the kitchen with handcrafted bird hinges; the warm wood french doors and window trim against the dark color of the house; the lush raised planter boxes creating such a lovely feeling of enclosure for the yard; the curved shelf nook by the french doors; the curved wood banister; the post-less corner windows in the clerestory; the cozy aerie bedroom with windows higher than the mattress for privacy with expansive views; and the stone bathroom sink that is literally sculpture. For someone who mentioned a couple of times that he was originally a pastry chef, Paul has certainly become an incredibly skilled wood crafter. There are just so many gorgeous pieces of wood used and shaped in wonderful ways that make this home so warm and welcoming. That kitchen benchtop! My other favourites were the curved shelves and the mast lights. Cathy's artwork is also beautiful and complements everything else so perfectly. I just about fell out of my bed when Paul said this cost him about $20,000. I was expecting something more like $100k, even knowing there were lots of reclaimed and reused materials. I know that new and quality materials in any art medium can make a difference but I always think that someone who can make something so incredibly beautiful (and functional!) using recycled and budget materials has an extra special type of creativity.
