I was fully expecting this year for the Canes to be a bit of a down year/re-tool which I was ok with because the old core showed they couldn’t get it done when it mattered. Come to my surprise this season they’re clicking with better chemistry than I’ve seen in any of the previous years and it’s been so much fun to watch, I don’t know how far they’re gonna take it but it’s been great to see them kill it to start the year off when they were more or less written off before the season started. Not to mention almost every single addition Tulsky made in his offseason has bought in and looked good.

As a Canes fan I appreciate the content. We don't get much love. That said, I feel like every year starts and ends the same. We come out hot, everyone thinks we are a contender, and we fizzle out in the post season. I will agree with others. This year feels different. But, I'm sure I told myself that last year too. Regardless, for what was supposed to be a down year, I am elated to see such a talented Carolina team. I think that what the Canes look like post All Star break will be extremely telling. Again, thank you for the content and I hope we can become a more prominent presence on your channel! Cheers from Carolina!

As a canes fan, i think its almost fun for them to go under so many people's radar. It makes them feel like underdogs at almost every gane, which makes the wins that much more rewarding. It also helps that everyone thought they'd be worse because of the talent they lost. Guess we decided to prove the league wrong

I started watching the hurricanes last year, and the team was built differently. They had a style and all lines played thay way. Necas didn't really fit that well being an excellent skater with exceptional speed. This year each line seems to have it's own personality. The necas line really plays into the strength of Necas skills, instead of making Necas play last years style. If one line is not having success, then at least one other line should be doing well.

@ a big reason they’ve gotten kicked out was the lack of offense and or injuries. It’s not boring nor inefficient since they play a very similar style to the Florida Panthers and that sweep saw every one of those four games being games that could have easily gone either way. Canes also made it to the third round 2 of those years. They’ve had more playoff success these past few years than most teams. They have won at least 1 playoff round the past 5 years too.

I had been saying it for a few years now that Necas is a good player, but if he ever took that next step in shooting he could become one of the best players in the league. He had always been a decent goalscorer with even his "down" seasons he was 40 points in a season. He is one of if not the fastest players in the league, has amazing technical skill, and constantly created opportunities. the problem was he'd do these amazing plays where he walks through 3 guys to take a shot on net... and it'd be a limp shot to the goalie's chest. but now he's taking his time, using his teammates to get the opposing team moving, shooting AROUND the netminder, and he's been rewarded with 21 points in 12 games

Easily the best we've looked for a season start in a while. But there are two huge things that need to improve. #1 The Powerplay - while it has gotten better, it still has a lot of room to improve. #2 Goaltending consistency. We love Freddy and how talented he is, but his talent is worth nothing when we can't depend on him. Sure, he's been clutch especially around playoffs, but we are on our 3rd consecutive season of watching him wind up on the long-term injury list which creates a snowball effect of headache. We wind up starting our great backup goalies (Raanta when he was good, then Kochetkov) and play them until they are tired. Then we go for our backup backup who typically costs us a couple games, then go back to playing a still-tired goalie. Then Andersen returns around the late part of the season, but by then its too late. We can only depend on him at that point and when he gets tired, we have a cold backup goalie who normally thrives on consistent icetime.
@SCTyler.
@SCTyler. 27 күн бұрын
As a HUGE Caniac I'm extremely excited with our lineup right now. Some notable points: Kochetkov has been REALLY solid which is an absolute MUST for us to succeed. Kotkaniemi... jesus this guy must have whiplash with how quickly he did a U-turn and started zooming in the opposite direction. He went from fans calling for him to be bought out to an absolute MONSTER. Aho seems like he's able to sit back and actually play center right now instead of trying to play all 3 forward positions at the same time. His scoring has slowed down but he's been apart of some really really great plays that led to goals and ofc those OT winners. Blake has been amazing for a rookie that went from probably not getting a spot to really earning a spot in the pre-season. Basically it seems like our depth got so much better and then you have Necas almost starting to step up as a star player of sorts. Now, the thing is can the Canes keep it up? I think they can as long as we can get Freddo healthy and keep playing both he and Kooch in the pipes. 1 guy to look out for who hasn't made it over to the team yet though... Nikishin. I genuinely think Nikishin will come in once his KHL contract is up and immediately cause a stir. He's going to be joining some AMAZING Defensemen and be able to learn the way the NHL plays the game quickly. I think Nikishin will be the ace up our sleeve coming up on the playoffs.

Can i get some insight as an Oilers fan? Because the Canes have been catching my interest the last couple years but they never seem to get the same attention unless they are doing a post game Skol or some post win shenanigans. Is it just because of bigger markets taking over TV (Like TOR, NYR, FLA, BOS, Even lightning staying relevant) or is there something to be said about them? I recently came to think Maybe Aho isn’t a #1 guy, maybe he’s like Draisaitl type waiting for his 1A so they can really make a run. But yeah whatever insight anybody wants to provide is much appreciated!!🙏🏻

For Carolina, it's not about the numbers the pros put up, but you must be a good all around player. You could really make an argument out best line is Staal, Jarvis, Martinook. While the only score occasional goals, while they are on the ice the puck is likely in the opponents zone the entire time with all of them being good penalty killers as well. It's one thing I've noticed in the reverse direction. Each team tends to have one or two pro star power players who get paid a bunch with high expectations. Aho isn't someone who gets multiple goals every night, but no matter what you need him to do he can (also, he is most likely to get the game winner in critical moments). It often seems like Carolina is a good team and people know it, so they don't really pay attention to them. Good regular season and fumbles in the playoffs. Carolina doesn't often fight, so even clips that might bring your attention thay way you don't see. Last year Carolina and the Rangers were similar in the stats, but there were reasons the Rangers were talked about more, particularly Rempe fights if nothing else.

Aho is a really good two way player who, I think, has been held back by being placed in line combinations that don't work. He doesn't have great chemistry with Svechnikov, but they keep getting paired up. He and Necas are magic together, but Necas is too valuable as a one man zone entry to not surround him with guys who play best off the puck. Best use of Aho I've seen was when they had him basically qb the powerplay the end of last year with Burns as more of a pressure release valve. He was very good at slowly tightening the position to where his shot from the point was more often a shot from the circle. I'm not sayin he is as good, but Aho is stylistically more like Bergeron than he us like any other highly regarded 1C i can think of - only without the rest of the Perfection Line around him.

@@davidj.a.8442Ooohhh ok this paints a lot clearer of a picture. Because i was tryna compare to Mcdavid, Drai, Petterson, even a guy like Pasta but those other guys seem to be ahead in outstanding offensive terms more or less. Again though, to have qualities of Bergron is not light statement. The Bruins could’ve had probably 3-4 cups while playing, I think its just time for the Canes to step up for him because it seems like he isn’t surrounded by enough (To win in my opinion).

Canes have been a very good team, the issue was they always ran into someone in the playoffs. Walker and Gostisbehere are nice additions, especially if you think they don`t even cost 7m cap combined. They are kind of on their last ride together, Orlov and Burns are UFA after the season. So this might be it for them. Their F group is still young, only Staal, Martinook and Fast are over 30. Lot of talent there. The issue is the playoffs. Are they build for playoff success?
