Hi Mr. Pete! I am not far behind you in age (77) and have battled quite a bit of sickness in my life, including cancer. I have overcome adversity but like you, I hope to live 'till I'm 90. Wonderful video, even the part about death. I intend to leave my shop hoarde to my sons and grandsons. I can't take it with me, but I can take them when I faithfully endeavor to lead them into fellowship with Jesus Christ. I have countless hours on the job site and in the shop with my boys, but I also have countless hours with them studying God's Word together. Today is our 48th wedding anniversary. I will leave in a few minutes to hopefully bring her home from the hospital after this weekend heart attack. God is going to allow us more time together! AND there are two large industrial tooling chests in the back of my truck waiting for my boys to help me unload into the shop.

Mr. Pete, I am grateful for the wisdom you share with us. Just some food for thought that helps me as I am growing older, along with you and surely, many of your followers and viewers. From "The Daily Stoic" "In his Meditations-essentially his own private journal-Marcus Aurelius wrote that “You could leave life right now. Let that determine what you do and say and think.” That was a personal reminder to continue living a life of virtue NOW, and not wait." And one more from Seneca “Let us prepare our minds as if we’d come to the very end of life. Let us postpone nothing. Let us balance life’s books each day. … The one who puts the finishing touches on their life each day is never short of time.” Don't change anything, keep doing what you are doing and enjoy the ride. All the best, -Dan

I couldn’t agree more Mr. Pete, the description you gave was a perfect example of how not to display someone after the grim reaper arrives. Better they have some pictures of family members during happier times in life surrounding them as they lay in repose. Your comment that nobody knows what you’re talking about while you were flipping through the Schear Tumico catalog gets more true, the older you get. Seems what used to be common knowledge or discussion is completely lost as we age. I’m shocked to learn there are plenty of younger (20 year old) people who can’t tell the time to save their lives if presented with an analog clock for example. Beautiful packaging by your friend that sent the live center. I can see he lives what you preached about packaging things to ship. I was so impressed by your gift of the Mitutoyo digital caliper that I’m buying one this week. That is the only digital I would trust. And thanks for the info on how to tell if it’s genuine. I too am a flashaholic (“Hi Dave”) and have been collecting flashlights for 45 years. Years ago I bit the bullet and bought a surefire which almost cured me but then during weak moment in my life I found myself scoring another hit in the dark isles of the H.Freight store and when I got home I felt cheap so I swore never again. I’ve throughly enjoyed this video of this and that and can’t wait for your next video. Thanks

That Skoda live center looks like am MT5, as you speculated. I worked in a boiler shop as a young man, and that shop had the biggest lathe I have ever operated. It would fIt a 6" pipe (6 5/8" OD) through the spindle, and we would turn 36" diameter heat exchanger bundles (30' long) true in it. It actually had an MT6 tailstock, and we would use a sleeve and the MT5 centers for "smaller" work. I have really enjoyed your series of anecdotes and would echo the other commenters who have asked you to make other videos. My father died about 5 years ago, and he lived a long life of many adventures, including groeing up in the depression on the Canadian prairies, the Korean war, becoming a schoolteacher and teaching after one summer of "normal school" in the same classroom he graduated from in June (can you imagine, his classmates a year younger became his students!), operating a construction company in the summers off from school, and many other adventures. He was a quiet man and seldom talked about his youth. I wish he would have recorded some of his adventures and would ask you to reconsider continuing your series about yours. When I was a kid, there was still a little influence from the UK in Canada, and we would sing "God save the Queen" at school assemblies. That is long gone now; there is an entire government-subsidized industry devoted to rewriting and destroying our history. These are some very good English tools that are common here, like Record vises, and Moore & Wright precision tools. We got a lot of movies from the J. Arthur Rank Corporation in those days, and I recognised the logo. It's very odd those folks being in the micrometer business. I am 61, and you are an inspiration to me to keep active. Long may you continue, even if "long" is ten years.

Thank you for a great comment I have heard that the Canadian government is even worse than ours. That Trudeau is something else.
@gavinmclaren941620 сағат бұрын
Trudeau has a far left idology that has poisoned Canada. He was originally elected due to some fatigue from the previous leader and his celebrity looks, name, and persona. He called a snap election during the pandemic and won a minority government, and then made a deal with even more leftist politicians such that he could rule with impunity. However, the electorate now sees through his failed policies and terrible record, and he is universally unpopular in all regions in Canada. An election must be called by October of next year, and he will lose badly. Then Canada will take many years to recover from the damage he has caused, but we will do it. I live in Alberta, and there is a virtual "Cold War" between our sensible leaders here and the crazy policies of the federal Canadian government. I am sorry to have blighted your comment section with this, but I think that it is important for Americans to know that most Canadians are reasonable people, that we have seen Trudeau's real nature, and that we will get rid of him at the first opportunity.

Mr. Pete, I was sitting here in my garage watching your video and all of a sudden you show a tool. And that tool just happens to be the Heinrich Drilling jig. I own one of these! I’m a 36yo from Cedar Rapids, Ia and I enjoy restoring and rebuilding machinery in my free time away from the family. Well about 8 months ago an Atlas 12” pops up on market place (I’ve restored a few) for 300.00 that has every accessories known to make with it (milling attachment, collet closer, collet draw bar, tapper attachment, the list goes on.) well, a few of the things with this lathe I couldn’t identify and posted them on Facebook and no one else could tell me about them. Until today! This lathe was bought new by Quake Oats many moons ago and the guy I bought it from worked maintenance there. Well they were getting rid of it and he got it, along with everything else and one of those things happens to be the drilling jig!

Yes, I agree with you 100%. Way too many funeral arrangements mock what is really important with "crap" that has no place at a funeral. And don't get me started on the survivors that start inking up their body out of respect for the dear departed. Now back to the rest of the video as I paused this to make my point.... Well I finished the video and at the end didn't see much at the garage sale that I would have purchased. But there was that big plastic DeWalt case, probably a battery circular saw box that caught my eye. Oh, and I am one of the three people in the world that know what dunnage is, without looking it up. I used to haul some home to burn in my woodworking shop wood stove.

Portland is not what it use to be, but it’s definitely being made out to be worse than it is. What city doesn’t have issues with “bad” areas 💁🏼♂️ Thank you for being so open about the reality of death. Something a lot of people don’t want to think/talk about is death. I was a Diemaker, Pipefitter, Press operator, Layout inspector, and other jobs in my 31 years at GM. When I started, we only had those crummy plastic flashlights that gave off a tepid little spot of yellow light. The company regarded those as being highly valuable, and would take them out of your toolbox if you got laid off. Later, I got a 2D maglite, and that was so much better than what the company would issue you. As a Diesetter, I kept it in my back pocket as I set dies and ran parts-it ended up with all the color worn off it, but still working fine. Right before I retired, I got a 6P Surefire-it was the best flashlight you could buy at the time, and it amazed my co-workers by the intense volume of light it would put out, for such a small size of flashlight. Even today, long retired, I keep a single-AA flashlight in my pocket every day, and I use it many times a day, for this and that.

I have lived about six miles from downtown Portland for thirty years. None of the unrest has affected my neighborhood in any way, and things are pretty quiet. A bit more downtown crime than before 2020, though it's settled significantly since. Lots of apartment blocks are being built. It's true that there are still many windows boarded up downtown, where buisinesses are still struggling to recover from the unrest in 2020 and covid. But I think more than that, from changing consumer purchasing patterns. There are new company A "fullfilment centers" even as shopping malls are failing, just like other big cities. I suspect that our troubles with homelessness, high rents and struggling businesses aren't greatly different from many other cities. 2020 was a bad year for us, no doubt. But I think an undeserved reputation lingers. It is disheartening, however, to drive past the German American Society building and see an empty plinth where George Washington once stood.

I had a local machine shop make a custom drill bushing for me. Until recently I played around with lots of older Briggs and Stratton cast iron engines. A lot of them would have broken 5/16 head bolts that were hard to drill out without the drill bit wandering off center. The bushing allowed me to drill the broken bolts with the cylinder head still in place holding the bushing centered to drill with a 1/8 inch drill bit to start and then increase the size so I could use a Easy Out screw extractor or drill all the threads out.

Mr. Pete ------ don't be in any hurry to die ---- we need you ! I am in the UK (closer to France) and I have had Opinel Knives for over 40 years ------ carbon steel, rusts, but you can get these knives RAZOR SHARP ------ downside is that they don't hold the edge long ----- we are farmers, so we use our knives HARD, I've worn some out, and lost a lot more, but they are very affordable. They do a stainless version, but don't bother ----- go for carbon steel and beech, and learn to keep it sharp !! On the older knives, the locking ring keeps the blade open, on the new ones, it also keeps the blade shut when it's in your pocket ----- not a bad idea if you have got it really sharp !! Keep the videos coming !!

That movie is 'The Day the Earth Stood Still'. Please be careful charging or leaving that charger and battery in the garage. There have been so many battery fires lately (in Australia) and they are usually e-bike batteries and/or chargers. They don't hold up. @@mrpete222 I have primarily been a hobby woodworker, having produced a lot of furniture pieces over the decades. Lately, I have made knives, holsters and leatherwork products (mostly for gifts for family and friends). Watching your videos has been a treat. I loved shop classes back in the day. We had some great fellows teaching those in my experience.

I enjoyed this visit with you this morning. Lots of interesting random things. Flashlights were useless until the invention of LEDs, batteries were always dead. One thing about Harbor Freight is at least they don't pretend to have American Made items. Sorry that your raft adventure wasn't more popular, you told the story so well, I was with you boys all the way down the river. You can buy an electronic version of your homemade watt meter fairly reasonable and use it to check power usage of many appliances. My thoughts on the Chinese products and the large retailers, Amazon and such vs local stores, is that like it or not, it's the way it is, and we either go along or do without. I do like that we can get almost anything we want now, as a kid, I once traded for a schwinn bicycle that needed a part for the coaster brake. Dad and I searched all the local hardware stores without any luck, finally traded off the bike. Now days would probably be a mouse click away. Sorry for such a long comment, but so many this and thats to speak on. thanks for video

I have a confession to make to you After I visited the bathroom in the freight store, I bought yet another flashlight. Crazy??? Several people mentioned the watt meters. I think they called them. kill i watt. I should buy one. Also, after I said goodbye to you, I went up and visited John Wagner. We talked for about 90 minutes. He’s always interesting and can talk a mile a minute. As usual, he followed me to the car and almost got in with me, lol. Thanks for spending some time with me

Mr. Pete I enjoy so very much your videos. I have learned from you and I thank-you much for the learning. I was a self-taught machinist who machined 1/6th scale guns. My interest in machining such small guns was so my G.I. Joe's from the 60's would have the best weapons! I always liked the guns they had but was always disappointed that they didn't function. So I made them guns with every part of the full size guns. I'm still learning from you. Thank-you! Scott Rasmussen

Mr. Pete! Age is only a number! You are only old when you believe it. Think young, act young, be young! Attitude is everything. I also know the meaning of the naval/marine term "dunnage". That live center is indeed a Morse 5 taper. The number is on the device. I remember Father Knows Best on TV. Anyone who does NOT recognize "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is an uneducated buffoon! Most of the actors in HollyWOKE today are dopes and that is the lack of intellect version of the word. LOL I am one who never has and never will EVER do business with SCAMAZON because they have destroyed so many small businesses! For flashlights I always have my MAGLITE Mini Pro 2-AA LED flashlight in a holster on my belt. The holster, from RIP OFFS, model CO-75 also holds my SOG multi-tool and a pen. That combination has been personally combat proven and is the perfect setup for every man. LOL Many of the tool manufacturers are leaving China and going to India, Vietnam, Thailand and other countries. China is in a serious economic decline and is beating war drums so everyone is bailing out ASAP. Start checking the labels to see who has left there. That goes for almost everything, now. I would have dropped $200 for all of that. I could always give some of those items to a few friends or tossed them onto Evil Bay and made my money back. Thank you for another great video. Your hard work is indeed appreciated even though many don't bother to tell you that. Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family.

I am an admitted flashlight and magnifier "collector" . Some of those old semi-waterproof flashlights make a convenient place to store small tools or emergency items! I have one that i keep an assortment of flat spade bits in and throw it in my tool bucket . Just remove the bulb and reflector and keep the lens so you can see the contents. It is truly hard to comprehend how many factories there must be in china to produce 98 % of the world's flashlights, not to mention, how many there are to supply everything else made in China??!!

Never thought about saving an old flashlight. When they do not work, I got so mad. I instantly crushed them. And yes, there must be a lot of factories making those cheap flashlights

Mr. Pete, another fine video. Thank you. 1) I would have had a hard time passing on the $200 tablefull. There were a few items that piqued my interest. 2) It isn't that we aren't interested in the stories. In fact I think the adventure stories are great and entertaining. Sometimes there is just too much other things that take higher priority in our lives. Eventually I won't have to go to work anymore and will find the spare time to watch more videos like that. For now I have to pick and chose what I can spend my idle time on. 3) While I do like the easy quick readings from the digital instruments in the shop at work, I do find myself having to replace about one battery per month. But my mechanical and vernier scale tools that are my personal tools never need financial maintenance. I am also cheap and potentially a hoarder.

Haven't read the other comments, but a Kill-a-watt, the P3 model, would work to find out how much energy it takes to recharge your battery. It plugs into the wall and then you plug your charger into the kill-a-watt and it can tell you what the current/power draw for the charger is. You may need to check it every 5-10 minutes to plot out the values over time, but it should allow you to get a reasonable estimate of how many kilowatt hours it needs.

Mr. Pete, On metering the amount of KWH your bike is using, I have a couple of things. First that meter you are using will probably work, do you know it must be hung up vertical. The spinning disk will not work when laying down. If you do have it hanging, the next thing is charge the bike a few times, maybe 10 times, until you get some movement on the dials. Then you could come up with the number of KWH for 10 charges. As far as cost, just take your current utility bill and divide out the total dollars by the KWH you used. There is your average charge and apply it to the amount of KWH per charge. My 2 cents, in the metering business for 45 years.
@mrpete22215 сағат бұрын
That is an excellent idea. To get an average. And yes, I did know that it has to be in the vertical position. Because when it lies flat, the little disc does not move at all. I discovered that six months ago.

Hi Mr. Pete, enjoy your videos. To measure the wattage load of your charger connect, say a 100 watt bulb and time the rotation of the disc in your watt hour meter. Then time the rotation using the charger. Simple math will tell you the wattage draw of the charger.

I do agree with what you talked about at the beginning Pete, i knew where you were going with it before you even said it. I've even mentioned a similar thing to a couple of family members. "You can't take your money with you when you die". Because that particular family member's main priority was about making more money, always focusing on that aspect even though they already led a very successful life. There's nothing wrong with being driven to be successful and make money, but when that becomes the number one priority in life and comes before other things that should be much more important like putting God first in your life and living and treating others in a way that reflects that. That person is somewhat religious anyway so it's not like I'm trying to push religion on somebody that wants nothing to do with it. But your comments at the beginning made me think of that. The only thing that will be important when all our time comes is if we put the important things first in our lives like God, morality and living in a way that reflects that. I'm big into machining and collecting tools and that is my biggest passion, I love working on my machines. That's why I love your channel. And I think that's healthy to have a craft you're passionate about but I wouldn't put that before God, family and living with morals and I can tell you think like that too. Sorry for the long rambling comment. Love your channel as always been a longtime viewer and you've helped me learn a lot too! And Mr. Pete, i know you're not a youngling by any stretch but I wish you still many years of health. You're an active person and you're not overweight and don't smoke i think? I think you will out live your own prediction, and I surely hope so.
